Minecraft Wiki Admin noticeboard
Shortcuts

The admin noticeboard is one way through which users can notify administrators of issues needing administrative attention. While users are welcome to directly contact specific administrators (especially if they are seen to be active), posting here can be an easier and quicker way of ensuring that at least one admin will notice an issue and respond to it promptly. Remember to sign (using four tildes: ~~~~) when posting an issue.

Before posting an issue here, please consider the following:

  • This page is for reporting wiki issues. Please post any discussions on the community portal talk page.
  • Post only issues that require administrative action, i.e. blocking vandals, protecting pages, restoring deleted pages etc.
  • Do not post deletion requests here; instead, the page should be tagged for deletion.
  • Do not post issues regarding content disputes. Try making a request for comment instead.
  • Mediation requests between users should only be made once a resolution could not be reached between users.
  • For issues regarding the use of this wiki, please see our help center.
  • For issues with filters preventing edits from being saved: filters are not able to be disabled for specific people. However, an admin may be able to perform the edit themselves for you. "New user" filters expire after you log in and make some edits around the wiki.

Table of slscool

In case of vandalism, posting about it here is low priority. Revert it first, anyone can do so. If the vandal created a new page, tag it for speedy deletion. Assume good faith and consider leaving a message on that user's talk page to explain the reason. Post here only if the user has made several disruptive edits and/or persists despite a warning. Always avoid a revert war with the vandal; it is far better to wait until an admin has a chance to intervene.

If a user must be reported here, do not create a new section. Instead, add * {{vandal|Example user}} Your concise reason (e.g. vandalised past 4th warning). ~~~~ in the Block requests section.

If a protection or unprotection request must be requested here, do not create a new section. Instead, add * {{la|Example page}} '''duration (temporary or indefinite) and protection level''': Your concise reason (e.g. constant spam and vandalism). <nowiki>~~~~ in the Protection requests section.

Please post new topics at the bottom of the page by clicking the "add topic" button above.

I appreciate that the launcher has versions from older times, but it’s easy to notice that you haven’t added all of them. Can someone tell Mojang that they need to add all the rest of the versions to the launcher? 75.166.68.3 23:40, 22 October 2020 (UTC)

Maybe they weren't even able to because they lost them, or whatever. Anyway, the Minecraft Wiki and the immense majority of its editors don't have privileged connections with Mojang staff, so we can't really help you with this.
P.S: Just to clarify: as Minecraft maniacs, we would love Mojang to make older versions public if they can, but I'm afraid we can't really do anything about it. Sagessylu (discuss | edits) 12:41, 23 October 2020 (UTC)
Maybe they can recreate versions older than rd-132211, and for other missing versions just add new features to the previous version(or the version before that if the previous version is also missing 75.166.68.3 11:57, 24 October 2020 (UTC)
Well... Yes and No. No because who's going to recreate it and Yes.. at a cost because someone could recreate it but it would fall into the edited versions category and there would still be a message box at the top asking for a download link.---Humiebee Discuss anything with me Look at my edits 17:29, 24 October 2020 (UTC)

Sync changes from Module:FrontPageSprite/editcopy to main module

I uploaded a new version of File:FrontPageSprite.png, which adds the gameplay sprites for Minecraft Dungeons for Minecraft Wiki/editcopy, but also reorders and removes old sprites. Normally, this wouldn't affect the main template, since it should get a specific version of the image, but for some reason it is getting the latest version of the image, which doesn't match Module:FrontPageSprite right now. Module:FrontPageSprite/editcopy has the updated sprite positions. – Unavailablehoax (talk) 20:18, 3 November 2020 (UTC)

Sandbox Cleaning

A while back, I posted a request on Minecraft Wiki talk:Sandbox but it got no attention. Can a bot automatically restore the header and clean the sandbox? I mean the sandbox should possibly get cleaned once a day as it ususally takes 3 hrs - 2 days for it to be cleaned. Also several ips keep touching the header so restoring that would be helpful as well.Humiebeetalk contribs 23:51, 17 November 2020 (UTC)

Support, but because this is in the admin noticeboard, I'd wait for an admin response to see if such bot is possible. Wikipedia already has a bot which automatically cleans the sandbox over time, and automatically refreshes the header. The best thing I could do is create this template, which basically if I replace all content in the sandbox with {{subst:User:Blockofnetherite/Fsh}}, it would clean the sandbox. The reason why I did not add it to the namespace is because 1) I don't know if it has already been done and 2) I should most likely wait for admin and/or community approval before I add a new template to mainspace. Blockofnetherite Talk Contributions 03:42, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
Comment This could be made as a subpage of MCW:Sandbox, perhaps as MCW:Sandbox/Fsh, so using {{subst:/Fsh}} would clean it. – Unsigned comment added by Unavailablehoax (talkcontribs) at 16:54, November 20, 2020 (UTC). Sign comments with ~~~~
Comment Good idea, but I do not know if "Full sandbox heading" (Short: Fsh) is the best name for this, I was also thinking of calling it "Sandbox cleaner" (Short: Sc) because that name also works, but I went for "Full sandbox heading" because it doesn't clean the sandbox simply by inserting it in the page, I would have to clean it by replacing all content with the template (which isn't a bad thing, but I just thought that "Full sandbox heading" would be a better name) Blockofnetherite Talk Contributions 17:11, 20 November 2020 (UTC)

Improve the "missing signature" tag

The "missing signature" tag that MediaWiki assigns to some edits in talk and project pages is flawed. Some edits, such as archiving discussions or fixing formatting are incorrectly tagged with "missing signature". Therefore I propose two additional criteria to reduce the rate of false positives. To prevent archival edits from being tagged, edits must increase the page size in order to qualify for "missing signature". Minor edits would also be disregarded so fixing formatting won't result in the tag. It is impossible to create an edit filter to perfectly tag edits as "missing signature", but the current filter can be improved. Fadyblok240 (talk) 17:46, 27 November 2020 (UTC)

Should be done.  Nixinova T  C   18:21, 27 November 2020 (UTC)

In general, for talk pages, including your user talk page, do not violate MCW:TALK. Blockofnetherite Talk Contributions 17:20, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

Is there a policy here about directories of youtube videos?

Over on Wikipedia, there's a policy that's fairly strictly enforced: Wikipedia is not a directory. This policy exists because 'directory' pages become spam magnets for editors to post their own links to their own content on Facebook, Youtube, their website, their github project, or whatever. And this also violates the guildeline about conflict of interest.

Do we have something similar here? There's a brief list of rules at MCW:Wiki rules but nothing detailed about directories of external links or COI.

So tell me if I was out of line here. I saw this edit by someone inserting what is obviously his own Youtube video into a tutorial article. Instinctively I reverted it, out of habit developed on Wikipedia, and then realized I have never really seen any policy or guideline about lists of external links, or conflict-of-interest editing.

I know this wiki is quite permissive about what goes into Tutorial articles, but that particular tutorial looks like more video links than actual tutorial content. Amatulic (talk) 04:15, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

Video policy. The Great Spring (talk | contribs) 04:18, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
@TheGreatSpring: Minecraft Wiki:Wiki rules/Video policy pretty much allows a free-for-all on tutorial pages, saying only that "it is preferred" for the article itself to include the information in the video. And it doesn't address the issue of editing with a conflict of interest (adding your own videos to a page) other than to mention "blatant self-promotion." Does adding your own Youtube link qualify? If so, maybe a line should be added. A lot of YouTube links on this wiki seem to exist for the purpose of attracting views (revenue) for the owner of the link. At the very least, the policy should require that you propose your own video on the talk page for others to review. Amatulic (talk) 16:20, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
I would say adding your YouTube link to the page as your only contribution would be "blatant self promotion", but revamping part of the article and including your video there may be fine, if the video is helpful (which they must be).  Nixinova T  C   19:30, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
Well, looking at the contributions of MysticatLive (talkcontribslogsblock log) who I reverted, adding videos to articles appears to be that user's sole purpose here. Amatulic (talk) 20:42, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

@Blockofnetherite: Ugh. Based on your smalltext comment there, I thought I'd port over the "link article" ("la") template from the English Wikipedia and found myself in a morass of cross-linked templates and modules that all had to be ported over, but here it is:
The template {{la|Zombie}}
results in:

Zombie (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs)

I was afraid after getting deep into it that I'd never get it to work, but there it is.
Since we already have a similar template {{User}} for user links, I may have duplicated some functionality. And what I did isn't nearly complete; the "la" template is just one of many related ones handled by Module:PageLinks that I ported over. Amatulic (talk) 04:36, 15 December 2020 (UTC)

Editing in good faith, but disruptive and uncommunicative

Since October, NineTreyBlud, TheGreatSpring, and I have been monitoring and cleaning up messes left by good-faith edits from the IP address 116.88.2.69 (talkcontribslogsblock log) in the Minecraft Dungeons article space.

The user has made a few good contributions, and the disruptive contributions are well-intentioned, coming across as a fanboy eager to share knowledge.

On the other hand, the endless need to clean up this user's speculations, irrelevant comparisons between mobs, poor grammar, poor spelling, combined with the user being totally uncommunicative on any talk page or in edit summaries, makes me think that this user isn't a net benefit here.

Refer to the discussions on the IP's talk page User talk:116.88.2.69 (with no response from the IP) and my own talk page User talk:Amatulic#About the annoyance from 116.882.69.

Because the user is editing in good faith without meaning to do harm, I'm hesitant to recommend a long term block, but I wish there was some way to get his attention so he'd be receptive to some advice or coaching. Perhaps a short block to get attention? Amatulic (talk) 03:29, 15 December 2020 (UTC)

Surely Wikipedia has guidelines on situations like this? WP:CIR?  Nixinova T  C   03:49, 15 December 2020 (UTC)
@Nixinova: but this isn't Wikipedia. I am unfamiliar with the thresholds for blocking here on the Minecraft wiki. On Wikipedia there is a block rationale WP:Disruptive editing that administrators can use to justify blocking a user. It's a pretty detailed guideline. As you suggested, WP:CIR is applicable too.
What I've done on the English Wikipedia, I'd first verify that the edits are mostly disruptive and that the user has been adequately warned about such edits, then apply a short block (starting at 24 hours, although 31 hours is typical) to stop the disruption. I also apply a block message template to the user's talk page to explain the reason for the block, and the message also includes instructions on appealing the block. I haven't seen that here, or maybe it exists but isn't used. Anyway, that often gets the user's attention and the user starts communicating. Or the user leaves. 1. It was not edit warring, it was obvious vandalism.
  2. It was just from one ip adress

  3. Also look at Does Fortune apply full protection? right above

But yes, I do definitely do support unprotection of that page, it shouldn't have even been protected in the first place. James Haydon (talk) 02:23, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
"It was not edit warring, it was obvious vandalism." a new user and an editor well known to the wiki, neither attempted to communicate to one another and were just reverting back and forth; that made it was actually edit warring. I'm not going to block a user who was not said a word to, who may have been acting out of good faith, since their initial edit summary was correct, but they got reverted 4 times, no reason provided. This is unlike the fortune page, where the user (and alts) were told several times why their edits were being reverted. I will not remove the protection. Dhranios (talk) (Join the wiki videos project!) 06:02, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
Okay thanks for the context there. James Haydon (talk) 06:06, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
This protection has been expired on 31 Dec 2020. Android 1123581321 (talk) 11:59, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
So yes since 31 Dec 2020 Android 1123581321 (talk) 17:35, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
We know mate. James Haydon (talk) 17:37, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

It's been recently a target of vandalism from mostly anonymous users. YA-HOOO! 19:58, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

blocked

When you get blocked and it says account creation disabled does that mean you can't have a Minecraft wiki account. it will say some thing like this (anonymous users only, account creation disabled) 73.89.66.98 21:09, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

It means you cannot create a new account while blocked.  Nixinova T  C   21:28, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
That setting exists for good reason, though it doesn't work all the time. James Haydon (talk) 21:36, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
Ok, yea that makes sense.Good because I want to create a permanent account eventually. Thanks! bye. 73.89.66.98 01:44, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

My autopatrol candidates, 5 Jan 2021

I keep running across these users while patrolling article edits, and I think they should have the autopatrol bit enabled:

  • RondiMarco (talkcontribslogsblock log) - highly active user, mostly maintenance edits, and at the moment seems to be the most experienced user that I keep having to mark edits as patrolled (several dozen in a matter of days), no bad edits that I can see.
  • The Non Useful (talkcontribslogsblock log) - most activity is adding interlanguage wiki links to articles, but there's occasional content edits and vandal reversion, all good.
  • Goro488 (talkcontribslogsblock log) - highly prolific file categorizer.
  • Dlljs (talkcontribslogsblock log) - been around a while, constructive, I recall having to revert him a couple of times but no more than I've been reverted myself by others.

I'd rather not see these users keep appearing in my watchlist when I'm looking for vandal unpatrolled edits. Please give them the autopatrol right. Amatulic (talk) 16:21, 5 January 2021 (UTC)

Strong support, although I am not a patroller yet, I see these users in my watchlist often, and granting autopatrol to these users would be very helpful P.S. Dlljs is female btwBlockofnetherite Talk Contributions 17:07, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
I think they called Dlljs a male for a reason, though i am not gonna say it. But i do think that Goro488 definitely deserves it the most because of their file uploading. James Haydon (talk) 17:11, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
Added autopatrol to all of them, I have seen them enough as well to have given them the right without discussing, honestly, but it just never popped into my mind. Dhranios (talk) (Join the wiki videos project!) 19:30, 11 January 2021 (UTC)

Can admins semi-protect User:Android 1123581321?

I am a confirmed user. I want the admins to semi-protect User:Android 1123581321 so no IPs can edit it. Android 1123581321 (talk) 12:24, 11 January 2021 (UTC)

There is already an abuse filter that prevent IPs from editing a user page, so no need to protect it. TheGreatSpring (talk | contribs) (Tagalog translation) 12:48, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
According to the discord server, it seems like the abusefilter doesn't seem to work. Blockofnetherite Talk Contributions 17:01, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
Also, remember that semi-protection filters out registered users that are not email verified. Blockofnetherite Talk Contributions 17:02, 11 January 2021 (UTC)

== Semi-protect Village (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs) ==

Can Village be protected because IPs are vandalising the content on Village six times? Android 1123581321 (talk) 09:54, 14 January 2021 (UTC)

It's only six times so maybe no. TheGreatSpring (talk | contribs) (Tagalog translation) 10:32, 14 January 2021 (UTC)

== Semi-Protect Evoker (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs) ==

Recently there has been a lot of false info added by ip addresses saying that the evoker is a boss (it's obviously not) and saying that it drops special boss loot. James Haydon (talk) 23:35, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

== Semi-protect Bedrock Edition (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs) ==

Vandalism by sockpuppets. Also, can we add Protection requests at the top? TheGreatSpring (talk) 12:03, 16 January 2021 (UTC)

Strong support for both permanent semi-protection on version pages (eg. Java Edition and Bedrock Edition.  Stronger support for protection requests as they are as domanant as normal requests. Maybe put block and protection requests in subpages, similar to Wikipedia?Humiebee (talk) 16:08, 16 January 2021 (UTC)

User:JEC6789 and mcw:Patrollers

Can you give the right? JEC6789 seems to be the person who does the most edits in Special:RecentChanges, 95% of which are vandal reverts. at least between 6:00 PM and 1:00 AM (UTC) I don't get why the right was not given to JEC6789 but was given to NineTreyBlud and TheGreatSpring. They mostly use the undo option but briefly, they used popups.Humiebee (talk) 00:23, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
