Minecraft Wiki Admin noticeboard
Shortcuts

The admin noticeboard is one way through which users can notify administrators of issues needing administrative attention. While users are welcome to directly contact specific administrators (especially if they are seen to be active), posting here can be an easier and quicker way of ensuring that at least one admin will notice an issue and respond to it promptly. Remember to sign (using four tildes: ~~~~) when posting an issue.

Before posting an issue here, please consider the following:

  • This page is for reporting wiki issues. Please post any discussions on the community portal talk page.
  • Post only issues that require administrative action, i.e. blocking vandals, protecting pages, restoring deleted pages etc.
  • Do not post deletion requests here; instead, the page should be tagged for deletion.
  • Do not post issues regarding content disputes. Try making a request for comment instead.
  • Mediation requests between users should only be made once a resolution could not be reached between users.
  • For issues regarding the use of this wiki, please see our help center.
  • For issues with filters preventing edits from being saved: filters are not able to be disabled for specific people. However, an admin may be able to perform the edit themselves for you. "New user" filters expire after you log in and make some edits around the wiki.

Table of slscool

In case of vandalism, posting about it here is low priority. Revert it first, anyone can do so. If the vandal created a new page, tag it for speedy deletion. Assume good faith and consider leaving a message on that user's talk page to explain the reason. Post here only if the user has made several disruptive edits and/or persists despite a warning. Always avoid a revert war with the vandal; it is far better to wait until an admin has a chance to intervene.

If a user must be reported here, do not create a new section. Instead, add * {{vandal|Example user}} Your concise reason (e.g. vandalised past 4th warning). ~~~~ in the Block requests section.

If a protection or unprotection request must be requested here, do not create a new section. Instead, add * {{la|Example page}} '''duration (temporary or indefinite) and protection level''': Your concise reason (e.g. constant spam and vandalism). <nowiki>~~~~ in the Protection requests section.

Please post new topics at the bottom of the page by clicking the "add topic" button above.

Which one are you referring to as weird? I think the winter logo in the English Wiki looks weird. – Unavailablehoax (talk) 03:21, 19 September 2020 (UTC)
Living on the California coast, any "winter" theme logo looks weird. And it would also for the entire population south of the equator. ~ Amatulic (talk) 21:01, 22 September 2020 (UTC)
While it may not be enabled globally for everyone on the wiki, users may still wish to enable such a theme themselves.
Is there any other textures outdated? Such as the dirt/grass blocks on the background and tabs? Dhranios (talk) 14:45, 12 October 2020 (UTC)
Thee grass texture is overly outdated, switching to the newest grass texture makes the header look a bit weird though. As for the Minecraft Chinese Wiki background, I personally think it's slightly too bright. – ItsPlantseed|⟩ 12:02, 16 October 2020 (UTC)
The grass texture could be tinted to look as bright green. The grass header was actually made in 2012, after grass was made less green since 2010. – Unavailablehoax (talk) 14:23, 16 October 2020 (UTC)

Changes to "Useful pages" list in wiki sidebar

I have two changes proposed to the "Useful pages" list in the sidebar of the wiki to the left, if it is possible to implement.

  1. Change the link texts of "Resource pack" and "Redstone circuit" to plural form, for consistency to the other links in the list and the links from "Popular and useful pages" on the main page.
  2. Exchange some links from the sidebar "Useful pages" and the main page "Popular and useful pages" that one or the other does not already have. I'm not gonna specify any links myself because I haven't thought it through, but you can discuss it if needed.

In my opinion, suggestion 1 should be implemented regardless. 82.102.22.7 02:05, 16 September 2020 (UTC)

Done suggestion 1, as it seems pretty straightforward and non-controversial. Doing the later sounds like a good idea to me, but I'd be interested to see what other people think and what exact links should be added and removed to/from both of the lists. --Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 15:46, 23 September 2020 (UTC)

Semi protect Splash

A week ago User:Nixinova protected Splash for a week, but the disruption resumed after the protection lifted, and one anon is currently edit-warring about it. There is talk page discussion about this too, with the anon basically stating an intent to continue disruption. I recommend semi-protection at least until the US federal election is over on 3 November. ~ Amatulic (talk) 23:48, 19 September 2020 (UTC)

Semi-protection would probably not work, they'll just keep registering accounts. Other measures to handle this are being taken. --AttemptToCallNil (report bug, view backtrace) 00:15, 20 September 2020 (UTC)

Protection is now full until Sep 27, but i think that they will still be coming back. James Haydon (talk) 03:59, 20 September 2020 (UTC)
Seems like semi protection would have been sufficient to prevent anonymous IP addresses and brand-new accounts from editing. Does semi work differently here compared to Wikipedia? ~ Amatulic (talk) 06:05, 20 September 2020 (UTC)
Semi = registered on Gamepedia, annoyingly.  Nixinova T  C   06:11, 20 September 2020 (UTC)
Huh. Isn't there a means of protection here that imposes an age and activity threshold? On the English Wikipedia where I'm an admin, "semi" protects against registered accounts that are less than 5 days old OR have less than 10 edits. We also have "extended confirmed", which protects against registered accounts less than 30 days old OR have less than 500 edits. And of course full protection. Oh, and there's another one called "pending changes protection" that I rarely use because I regard it as useless; it's weaker than semi, letting anybody edit but not making that edit visible publicly until a user with the "reviewer" right approves the change (as far as I've seen, this protection level just creates more work for others). ~ Amatulic (talk) 06:30, 20 September 2020 (UTC)

Actually, they changed it to 4 days :P---Humiebee Discuss anything with me Look at my edits 21:50, 20 September 2020 (UTC)
Here on Gamepedia users become autoconfirmed upon registering, so semi-protection allows all accounts to edit. If I recall correctly, you can't directly add a protection level that restricts editing to a custom user group; that is, we would not be able to have autopatrol protection or patroller protection. A possible but not very practical solution would be to use abuse filters. --Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 15:41, 23 September 2020 (UTC)

Block 120.29.116.104

120.29.116.104 (talkcontribslogsblock log) keeps re-adding a personal off-topic video to Bedrock Edition 1.12.0, and won't stop. I'm not used to the blocking procedure here; are there warning templates we need to apply to a user's talk page before blocking, like we do on Wikipedia? ~ Amatulic (talk) 06:00, 20 September 2020 (UTC)

The Wolf page keeps repeatedly getting bombed by ip addresses

The Wolf page has been vandalized at least 8 times since August. It still keeps getting bombed every few days. Consider semi protecting? Blockofnetherite Talk Contributions 00:17, 21 September 2020 (UTC)

Neutral, 14 of ip edits are constructive while the other 34 are vandalism, does this warrent protection?---Humiebee Discuss anything with me Look at my edits 19:44, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
A lot of the edits are not necessarily vandalism but rather editorializing and other forms of disruptive edits. There also seem to have been several constructive IP edits in the last month, and the most recent case of vandalism was actually from a registered user, which semi-protection would not be effective against. I'll wait a week or so and if there's a significant amount of disruptive editing by unregistered users in that time I'll protect for a month or so, otherwise leave it alone.--Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 16:09, 24 September 2020 (UTC)

November 16 update

Looking at the new history of the Wolf page, it seems that 90-100% of the recent IP edits were disruptive/vandalism, and/or unconstructive. It doesn't seem like it is getting any autoconfirmed unconstructive edits, so I recommend semi-protection due to this new ip bombing. Blockofnetherite Talk Contributions 19:19, 16 November 2020 (UTC)

The first page seems to have really died down with the vandalism, so not worth protecting at this point. The second one has a bunch of constructive IP edits and a lot of the recent vandalism is from two specific IPs who were blocked for their actions. I'll keep an eye on it, however; if it gets worse it should probably be protected for a month. More v’s

I appreciate that the launcher has versions from older times, but it’s easy to notice that you haven’t added all of them. Can someone tell Mojang that they need to add all the rest of the versions to the launcher? 75.166.68.3 23:40, 22 October 2020 (UTC)

Maybe they weren't even able to because they lost them, or whatever. Anyway, the Minecraft Wiki and the immense majority of its editors don't have privileged connections with Mojang staff, so we can't really help you with this.
P.S: Just to clarify: as Minecraft maniacs, we would love Mojang to make older versions public if they can, but I'm afraid we can't really do anything about it. Sagessylu (discuss | edits) 12:41, 23 October 2020 (UTC)
Maybe they can recreate versions older than rd-132211, and for other missing versions just add new features to the previous version(or the version before that if the previous version is also missing 75.166.68.3 11:57, 24 October 2020 (UTC)

Not an admin, however users / IPs are usually only blocked after about 3 unconstructive edits. If it's only 1 or 2 edits, the user was likely to do "test" edits and it really isn't worth it anyway to block them then. EliteHog (talk) 17:18, 2 November 2020 (UTC)

Sync changes from Module:FrontPageSprite/editcopy to main module

I uploaded a new version of File:FrontPageSprite.png, which adds the gameplay sprites for Minecraft Dungeons for Minecraft Wiki/editcopy, but also reorders and removes old sprites. Normally, this wouldn't affect the main template, since it should get a specific version of the image, but for some reason it is getting the latest version of the image, which doesn't match Module:FrontPageSprite right now. Module:FrontPageSprite/editcopy has the updated sprite positions. – Unavailablehoax (talk) 20:18, 3 November 2020 (UTC)

A Weird Situation

Okay so this user named SolidSC had been inactive since Jan 2019 so i replaced his user page with inactive user, and he just logged back in to undo my edit. IDK if he wanted it to be there but it says that users who are inactive for over a year should have their user pages replaced with the InactiveUserpage template. This is a weird situation, any idea on what to do? James Haydon (talk) 03:01, 10 November 2020 (UTC)

I see no reason to blank someone's userpage unless for some reason the contents of their userpage are disrupting the wiki. So basically, unless they are linking a ton of broken files/templates, there is no reason to blank anyone's userpages (and even then, I would hesitate to do it)
In any case, there is no policy that says userpages of inactive users must be blanked. If you want one, go propose it on the community portal. I don't support such a policy though. KnightMiner (t/c) 04:02, 10 November 2020 (UTC)

Sandbox Cleaning

A while back, I posted a request on Minecraft Wiki talk:Sandbox but it got no attention. Can a bot automatically restore the header and clean the sandbox? I mean the sandbox should possibly get cleaned once a day as it ususally takes 3 hrs - 2 days for it to be cleaned. Also several ips keep touching the header so restoring that would be helpful as well.Humiebeetalk contribs 23:51, 17 November 2020 (UTC)

Support, but because this is in the admin noticeboard, I'd wait for an admin response to see if such bot is possible. Wikipedia already has a bot which automatically cleans the sandbox over time, and automatically refreshes the header. The best thing I could do is create this template, which basically if I replace all content in the sandbox with {{subst:User:Blockofnetherite/Fsh}}, it would clean the sandbox. The reason why I did not add it to the namespace is because 1) I don't know if it has already been done and 2) I should most likely wait for admin and/or community approval before I add a new template to mainspace. Blockofnetherite Talk Contributions 03:42, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
Comment This could be made as a subpage of MCW:Sandbox, perhaps as MCW:Sandbox/Fsh, so using {{subst:/Fsh}} would clean it.
Comment Good idea, but I do not know if "Full sandbox heading" (Short: Fsh) is the best name for this, I was also thinking of calling it "Sandbox cleaner" (Short: Sc) because that name also works, but I went for "Full sandbox heading" because it doesn't clean the sandbox simply by inserting it in the page, I would have to clean it by replacing all content with the template (which isn't a bad thing, but I just thought that "Full sandbox heading" would be a better name) Blockofnetherite Talk Contributions 17:11, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
Let's call it {{sandbox reset}}, which is the name of the equivalent template on Wikipedia. Fadyblok240 (talk) 01:51, 24 November 2020 (UTC)
Comment - At the Wikipedia sandbox, there is also an editnotice, which links to an old revision with the edit summary already filled out.

Improve the "missing signature" tag

The "missing signature" tag that MediaWiki assigns to some edits in talk and project pages is flawed. Some edits, such as archiving discussions or fixing formatting are incorrectly tagged with "missing signature". Therefore I propose two additional criteria to reduce the rate of false positives. To prevent archival edits from being tagged, edits must increase the page size in order to qualify for "missing signature". Minor edits would also be disregarded so fixing formatting won't result in the tag. It is impossible to create an edit filter to perfectly tag edits as "missing signature", but the current filter can be improved. Fadyblok240 (talk) 17:46, 27 November 2020 (UTC)

Should be done.  Nixinova T  C   18:21, 27 November 2020 (UTC)
