Way to bulk upload several alticles/images?[edit]

Is it possible to upload several articles and images at once? If possible, how do I achieve that? --Alswo9628(4)ko.Admin (talk) 01:49, 15 June 2018 (UTC)

There is no way (afaik) to mass-upload images, and I'm not sure what you mean by "upload several articles". – Nixinova Grid Book and Quill.png Grid Diamond Pickaxe.png 04:32, 15 June 2018 (UTC)
You can mass upload images by dragging them in to the big blue "drop files here" box when editing, or by pressing the upload icon in the toolbar. Admins can mass create articles from other wikis with the import function. MajrTalk

Abuse filter for Java Edition hardware performance/entries[edit]

So many entries added by IPs are completely empty (see history). Maybe a filter could be set up to prevent it? --AttemptToCallNil (report bug, view backtrace) 16:45, 12 May 2018 (UTC)

Personally I consider this extremely excessive vandalism instead, I'd vote for semi-protection. – Jack McKalling [ User page Talk page Contributions ] 07:49, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
More likely to be testing than vandalism, I think. --AttemptToCallNil (report bug, view backtrace) 07:50, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
But still, I think that page should only be edited by trusted editors instead of everyone (because of this excess of malformed edits). There is a warning message on the page with instructions below it. Even in the edit form there are custom instructions. It's just no excuse IMHO to keep doing this like they have. I feel like if these IP editors cannot behave as requested, the page should get protected from them. – Jack McKalling [ User page Talk page Contributions ] 10:08, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
...Why do we even have that page in the first place? --AttemptToCallNil (report bug, view backtrace) 10:11, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
I don't know, I'm just defending the case of the page. It's been going on for more than half a year. – Jack McKalling [ User page Talk page Contributions ] 10:13, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
Putting aside the fact whether the page should be kept at all, I've drafted an abuse filter which when testing against the recent changes to that page, prevents all of the blank entries from being added and does not have any false positives so far. There are a few cons to using the current abuse filter, and I'm sure there are multiple ways it could be improved by somebody who's more advanced with AF coding than me:
  • It currently only works for users with less than 10 edits, meaning that if somebody made more than 10 edits and then added a blank entry it would succeed
  • This one's probably the worst of all - if a user made less then 10 edits, they can't revert an edit adding a blank entry, because abuse filters apparently cannot detect the number of bytes added in an edit - only the number of bytes changed, which is... very annoying. With my last revision, this is no longer the case. The abuse filter will now allow an edit to be made that has a change size of 188 bytes IF it removes the text "{{HardwareEntry", meaning that users who made less than 10 edits should be able to revert blank entries now just fine.
  • If anybody adds or removes even 1 character, the edit would succeed, due to the abuse filter only disallowing the edit if it adds exactly 188 bytes.
I'm currently going to be changing a lot of stuff with the draft to see how it works, so some of these problems may be fixed.-- Madminecrafter12Orange Glazed Terracotta.pngTalk to meLight Blue Glazed Terracotta.png 20:56, 29 June 2018 (UTC)
I just went ahead and added the AF - when I tested it it disallowed all of the edits that added blank entries, and didn't hit any false positives. We may eventually just delete the page, but I do think the abuse filter will be very helpful in the meantime or if we don't end up deleted it.-- Madminecrafter12Orange Glazed Terracotta.pngTalk to meLight Blue Glazed Terracotta.png 13:09, 3 July 2018 (UTC)

Why do we even keep Java Edition HW performance data?[edit]

What's the purpose of users submitting their JE performance data?

  •  ?

  • There are external benchmarking software programs, some of them with more maintained and comprehensive result databases, which may also include submission verification.
  • There are official system requirements, and a free demonstration version to determine whether/how your computer runs MC.
  • A substantial portion of users are likely to use unofficial content which impacts performance (such as modifications or higher/lower resolution texture packs), making vanilla measurements not very useful.
  • Users are submitting bogus entries almost all the time. We have to revert it.
  • There are just too many factors affecting PC performance in general, far more than on mobile devices.

I propose we delete Java Edition hardware performance and all related pages. --AttemptToCallNil (report bug, view backtrace) 10:28, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

Yes please! Bedrock Edition hardware performance isn't at all scientific either, so also isn't useful. MajrTalk
11:06, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
Shouldn't it be archived and protected instead like with the old issues pages? - MinecraftPhotos4U (talk) 11:26, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
Aren't issues pages just as pointless now? Oh, and there's recently been a proposal to unprotect issues pages.
The problem is maintenance. Unless it's deleted, we have to maintain it. --AttemptToCallNil (report bug, view backtrace) 11:29, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
Issue pages document historical bugs. If we knew all that data was documented elsewhere (maybe even including who reported it?), such as the issue tracker, then they could be deleted. The hardware performance pages don't contain any reliable information to begin with, so there's no reason to archive them. MajrTalk
11:42, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
Letting users to submitting their performance data is complete useless. People only see the minimum requirements and recommended requirements. This page should only show the requirements, not the performance. The page Server/Requirements is long not updated. Server software from Mojang is completely free, so there is no need to worry. List of request for deletion page:
These pages should instead be redirected to Java Edition hardware requirements. Skylord wars (talk) 11:53, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
Pinging RhythmicDaze as he is the main maintainer of the Java Edition HW page. KnightMiner · (t) 23:53, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
Didn't receive a notification for this, thanks Internet!
Anyway, I have to agree that even with all the effort that we put into this to keep the benchmarks semi-reliable for the benefit of others .. it's definitely not the best way to go about benchmarking and sharing data seeing as the way we ask users - with full trust not to manipulate or poison the end results - to get that data is based on opinion of what may work best. It's sad to think that to hours of work I put into it are a bit of a waste but yet that seemed rather inevitable when I started. I can't see this data being useful for future use as most modern machines will run this software just fine anyway. I can see it being good for only archival use going forward. -- RhythmicDaze(Edits)

It looks like there is consensus that these pages should not be kept. Given these pages were rather prominent, it is likely they should be redirected instead of deleting, possibly with notices at redirect target pages.

A proposed list of redirections follows:

  1. To Java Edition hardware requirements:
    1. Java Edition hardware performance, with all subpages deleted instead of redirecting.
  2. To Bedrock Edition#Compatible devices:
    1. Bedrock Edition hardware performance,
    2. Bedrock Edition hardware performance (Android),
    3. Bedrock Edition hardware performance (iOS)

Hi! I need to upload an image and add it to the template:Delete page, but the page is protected, I cannot make it, and an admin needs to do it for me, and I need also make some larger changes to the template, please can the protection level be lowered from "sysop" to "autoconfirmed" so I can upload a trash bin image from Wiki Pedia and use it on the delete template and make some layout changes to the template? After I are done can the protection level be raised to "sysop" again. Please can this be done? -- psl85 ☎ Talk 18:38, 29 May 2018 (UTC)

Oppose. There are still unresolved discussions about those templates going on, which need concensus before the templates should be modified. Please refer to for instance, this discussion about deleting redirects and its main WIP project here. After that discussion, the delete and speedy delete templates may need to be radically revisited. – Jack McKalling [ Talk Contrib ] 18:56, 29 May 2018 (UTC)
Instead of lowering the protection so you can edit it, normally what is done is the changes are proposed on a talk page and an admin will add them once approved. So start a conversation there about what layout changes you wish to make, preferably by adding a mockup, and if there is a concensus someone will update it. KnightMiner · (t) 19:27, 29 May 2018 (UTC)
On the other hand, "sysop" seems to be an unnecessarily high protection level. Permanent protection at an "autoconfirmed" level is sufficient enough for now. With that said, could an admin please lower it? MarcelTheHippie (talkcontribslogsblock log) 🐷🥕☮️ 01:05, 28 July 2018 (UTC)
Yeah, although we wouldn't usually temporarily lower the protection of a page just so that one person can edit it, we may should consider lowering the edit protection of delete to autoconfirmed. Years ago, a ton of registered users vandalized the template - but I highly doubt it would still happen now.-- Madminecrafter12Orange Glazed Terracotta.pngTalk to meLight Blue Glazed Terracotta.png 14:00, 28 July 2018 (UTC)
If it's lowered, editors other than Psl85 will easily be able to improve the template as they see fit in the future without having to seek administrative attention. Since there don't seem to be any objections, I think permanent autoconfirmed protection can go ahead. MarcelTheHippie (talkcontribslogsblock log) 🐷🥕☮️ 00:50, 1 August 2018 (UTC)
Ok, but I would only have a image added to the template, such as a trash bin or something, is the image ok? If the page is getting vandalized, please increase protection level to sysop. Wikipedia-logo.png psl85 (talkcontribs) 04:19, 1 August 2018 (UTC)

despawning mechanics edit[edit]

I was adding a little part to the page spawn in the section about +128 blocks away despawning, but a filter prevented me to make the edit, and I can't even write my text here. what am I supposed to do now? --Mortealre (talk) 22:41, 23 June 2018 (UTC)

Mortealre - thanks for reporting. I went ahead and added that to the Spawn page (and given you the credit =)), modifying a few grammatical/spelling errors and slightly rewording a sentence or two. I've been looking at the abuse filter rule 6 (the rule that your edit was caught in), and I'm not sure what word you added that triggered it. Somebody who's more advanced with abuse filter coding probably knows though, and this may be worth investigating. Anyways, once you've made 10 edits to this wiki you shouldn't be affected by that filter as well as most other filters.-- Madminecrafter12Orange Glazed Terracotta.pngTalk to meLight Blue Glazed Terracotta.png 23:39, 23 June 2018 (UTC)
"Happen is" was the phrase setting off the filter; its processing ignores whitespace. I think that's been an issue before as well, though it doesn't come up much. -- Orthotopetalk 00:07, 24 June 2018 (UTC)
That one is hard to filter properly, because we cannot tell in prior, if they deliberately inserted spaces to write the filtered word, or just happen to put these two legitimate words together in a sentence. You can't filter out all the false positives from a filter, it'd be an endless fight to pluck all possible loopholes. But excluding this word combination from the filter could work until someone else finds another false positive... – Jack McKalling [ Talk Contrib ] 11:00, 24 June 2018 (UTC)
thank you, I didn't think you could see my edit. --Mortealre (talk) 11:17, 24 June 2018 (UTC)
Normal users aren't able to see edits that were caught in the abuse filter, but administrators can. And as for the filter itself, there are two sections that words can be put into: a section where it disallows the words regardless of whitespace and special characters, and a section where it only disallows the word if there is no whitespace or special characters. We might should try moving the word to the second section, as "happen is" does seem like it would occur quite commonly.-- Madminecrafter12Orange Glazed Terracotta.pngTalk to meLight Blue Glazed Terracotta.png 12:26, 24 June 2018 (UTC)
Moved the trigger word to the second section mentioned, see below.-- Madminecrafter12Orange Glazed Terracotta.pngTalk to meLight Blue Glazed Terracotta.png 22:07, 1 August 2018 (UTC)

Cannot post a link to a video for "an unwanted word" in the URL[edit]

I tried to add a link to a Youtube video whose ID accidentally contains a combination of three letters that has been interpreted as a bad word by an automated filter. This filter doesn`t distinguish between intentional swearing and immutable letter combinations. I think this means that there is a huge amount of webpages that are unavailable to link in this wiki because of this issue; it is very easy for a combination of 3 letters like this to be accidentally formed. 23:12, 21 July 2018 (UTC)

Maybe we should remove the word that disallowed the edit (the F word but without the U) altogether from the disallowed words, as I don't think it would really be used that often for vandalism. I've also thought about restricting the filter as a whole to only non-talk namespaces. This would result in a lot of talk namespace vandalism/spam, though. A better idea may be to have a list of words that are only disallowed in non-talk namespaces, and a separate list for ones that are disallowed in all namespaces.-- Madminecrafter12Orange Glazed Terracotta.pngTalk to meLight Blue Glazed Terracotta.png 23:25, 21 July 2018 (UTC)
Support the suggestion about removing the word from the filter. I don't know much about the filter so I can't tell about your other options. If removing this word suddenly opens up more spam, it can still be looked into again. – Jack McKalling [ Talk Contrib ] 08:35, 23 July 2018 (UTC)
Removed it from the abuse filter completely, as I've actually seen quite a few more false positives than this (particularly because of YouTube) when looking at the abuse log for the filter. I've also changed a few other things, including now the "happen is" phrase (see above) should be able to be implemented by any user with no problems.-- Madminecrafter12Orange Glazed Terracotta.pngTalk to meLight Blue Glazed Terracotta.png 22:06, 1 August 2018 (UTC)

Hi Yoma, I've taken a look at the edit that was caught in the filter, and it does seem to be helpful, so I've added it to the article. The filter rule that your edit was caught in does seem to hit a lot of false positives. Local admins can't do anything about it, as it's a global rule, but I've notified Gamepedia Staff about how often false positives occur. Once you've made several edits, you shouldn't have to worry about most of the abuse filters anymore. Thanks for reporting!-- Madminecrafter12Orange Glazed Terracotta.pngTalk to meLight Blue Glazed Terracotta.png 12:56, 5 August 2018 (UTC)

Vandalizing IP not blocked yet[edit]

The IP (talkcontribslogsblock log) has been vandalizing 8 pages spread over the last month, and all their edits have been reverted except for Special:Diff/1215079 and Special:Diff/1215714, which weren't vandalism. But shouldn't they get blocked by now? – Jack McKalling [ Talk Contrib ] 08:23, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

The reverted edits look more playful than malicious, and the IP has no talk page so they haven't even been given a warning yet. Plus, it's not like they're vandalizing multiple times a day: It's once every few days, and they have made a couple of good edits. I don't think the admins are going to block anybody like this (especially an IP that might be shared with other users) without at least a few warnings. – Auldrick (talk · contribs) 13:20, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

Okay but then what about these cases of vandalism of page Drowned: (talkcontribslogsblock log), (talkcontribslogsblock log) and (talkcontribslogsblock log). Although the latter again only has made one edit, but I'm mentioning for completeness. I notice this IP user (talkcontribslogsblock log) has been blocked before for 3 days due to vandalism, but has again done more of it today on two pages (both edits already dealt with), the day their block expired. Not blocking yet because they seem to have stopped. --AttemptToCallNil (report bug, view backtrace) 14:15, 18 June 2018 (UTC)
I'm a bit borderline about that one. Mainly because the type of vandalism is not really a huge deal, just very small number changes and not, e.g. blanking whole pages and replacing them with gibberish. Also, they seem to have stopped now after just making 2 edits. I personally would block them for a week or so if they continue. However, if another admin or GRASP thinks that they should go ahead and be blocked, I hold no objections whatsoever.-- Madminecrafter12Orange Glazed Terracotta.pngTalk to meLight Blue Glazed Terracotta.png 14:17, 18 June 2018 (UTC)

Another IP has been repeatedly vandalising (let me reuse this section again). IP user (talkcontribslogsblock log) has been excessively adding non-blocks and removed content to the blast resistance table, which obviously doesn't belong there. They've been blocked before for 3 days like a week ago, so they've not learned from their mistake. This is the exact same thing that IP user (talkcontribslogsblock log) used to be doing around 24/25 july this year, which was also blocked for it but for a week. The latter IP has not come back to doing it, though I'm not sure it's a different person. – Jack McKalling [ Talk Contrib ] 10:47, 9 August 2018 (UTC)

Account moving[edit]

Hey, is there any way to remove/access my account? Because of the Curse account migration to Twitch, I can't seem to be able to access it anymore. Please help. Pixel5958 (talk) 03:53, 11 August 2018 (UTC)

Hi! It is not possible to completely remove accounts, it's only possible to rename it so that it is anonymized. Here's a help article about this: gphelp:Account deletion.
However, it's also possible to merge your old account into your new one. If you're interested in that, please follow the instructions in this help article: gphelp:User merge. | violine1101(Talk) 09:52, 11 August 2018 (UTC)

Special:WikiPoints page is broken[edit]

Each leaderboard page -except the first- is cut at the end. Yesterday night I was in a position number that had a 9 in the second-to-last digit, so I couldn't see myself because tables are cut at the end. Some pages have more than 15 places out of 100 missing. GammaMicroscopii (talk) 16:57, 11 August 2018 (UTC)

Cannot link mi gamepedia account to my email[edit]

Last night I created my Gamepedia account. Now I was trying to change my preferences, but I cannot, supposedly because I haven't confirmed an e-mail. All notices and help pages I have been linked say that e-mail settings are in the user preferences page, however this isn't true for me. Is this an error or am I dumb? GammaMicroscopii (talk) 16:48, 11 August 2018 (UTC)

Your Gamepedia account is using your Email form your Twitch account. You need to change your Email on Twitch.   HorseFace.png MarkusRost (talk) 17:04, 11 August 2018 (UTC)

Edit: E-mail preferences are in the preferences page, but are not editable. GammaMicroscopii (talk) 17:05, 11 August 2018 (UTC)

Can't edit Talk:Minecraft Wiki[edit]

I tried to put this on Talk:Minecraft Wiki but I was blocked: "Extra protection for frequent spam targets" and "Global AF - Keyword spam"

Bedrock Edition Versions
(from Talk:Bedrock Edition#Main Page Version Box)<br>
Could I suggest this again? I know User:Auldrick said no, but I have an alternative to a GIF: the way the image cycling works on entity pages and such (like Villager). Could something be rigged up where (for Auldrick's case) there's one cycling icon for the seven besides Android, iOS, and Apple TV; another icon for the first two of those; and a final icon for Apple TV? Then, once all versions are equal, there's one icon for everything except Apple TV? I can experiment if my help's needed. ~~~~

Scientific Guy (talk) 00:10, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

Hi Scientific Guy - thanks for reporting! As for the first filter that your edit got caught in, "Extra protection for frequent spam targets," I personally think that should probably be disabled altogether (see below). What it does is makes it so that users can't edit the main page unless they're logged in and have made 5 edits. However, the first part (logged in) is redundant, as the page is already semi-protected, so that only registered users can edit it. Also, the abuse filter seems to hit many false positives and most of the accurate catches are not any kind of extreme spam/vandalism - usually just a post that was made where it doesn't belong, but that could easily be reverted, and it doesn't seem to occur that often. For the second filter that your edit got caught in, that was a false positive. Normal admins can't edit the filter, as it's global, but I've notified Gamepedia Staff and are figuring out a solution right now.
As for actually making the edit, the best thing I can think of is for me to do it for you. However, that would technically be forging your signature. Do note that once you've made 5 edits, you should be able to bypass both filters just fine, so if you even just want to edit your sandbox twice, that would be an easy way to do the trick. ;)-- Madminecrafter12Orange Glazed Terracotta.pngTalk to meLight Blue Glazed Terracotta.png 03:35, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
Well, after looking at more of the filter hits, I was wrong about the first part of my post. The filter is quite effective actually, and I don't think the filter should be disabled altogether. However, I do think the required edit count should be lowered to 2 (or even maybe 1), rather than 5 - as almost all of the accurate catches are by users who haven't made any previous edits.-- Madminecrafter12Orange Glazed Terracotta.pngTalk to meLight Blue Glazed Terracotta.png 03:38, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
Looks like you've worked up enough edits now and made the post. Anyways, for the future, I've changed the abuse filter so that any registered user who has made at least 2 edits can now edit the Minecraft Wiki talk page. Again, thank you for reporting!-- Madminecrafter12Orange Glazed Terracotta.pngTalk to meLight Blue Glazed Terracotta.png 18:33, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

Tutorials/Command block: Revision deletion request[edit]

This diff on Tutorials/Command block: The edit has a offensive edit summary, which might be deleted, and has some offensive language, and i would this summary be deleted and has some swearing and bad things, and please can this be deleted so other users visiting the recent changes page, history on the page, or the ip's contributions would not see it, please? Wikipedia-logo.png psl85 (talkcontribs) 16:42, 30 August 2018 (UTC)

I personally doubt the edit's so vile as to require revdeletion. --AttemptToCallNil (report bug, view backtrace) 16:45, 30 August 2018 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Normal swearing or offensive language wouldn't warrant revision deletion. However, "Grossly insulting or degrading material" would warrant revision deletion. This might fall under that category, but I'm not really too sure. I think I'll leave this to another admin to see their opinion. And anyways, admins can no longer hide revisions - only bureaucrats and GP staff can.-- Madminecrafter12Orange Glazed Terracotta.pngTalk to meLight Blue Glazed Terracotta.png 16:48, 30 August 2018 (UTC)
It's not remotely offensive enough...There isn't even one single actual swear word. Just move on. --Pcj (talk) 17:10, 30 August 2018 (UTC)

I want my userpage protected[edit]

My userpage want I to have semi protected to prevent vandals from vandalizing it please --Wikipedia-logo.png psl85 (talkcontribs) 10:07, 4 October 2018 (UTC)

I don't see why you would need that. There has been literally no incident whatsoever of this yet on your page. Usually pages are only protected if it is an active target of multiple vandalizers, or if it is a high traffic page and vandalism is to be expected. Your page is neither. – Jack McKalling [ Talk Contrib ] 10:19, 4 October 2018 (UTC)
IPs can't edit user pages, there is a global abuse filter "New User Editing Another's Userpage" which prevents anyone with less then ~5(?) edits from editing the page. A semi-protection would be useless.   HorseFace.png GRASP logo.png MarkusRost (talk) 10:42, 4 October 2018 (UTC)

When I go to the xp page (https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Experience) I get a warning from my antivirus and if I don't block it I get redirected to a spam page telling me I won a free phone. Nacoranisalive (talk) 02:05, 11 October 2018 (UTC)

Your computer or browser might be infected with spyware or other malware. Update your anti-virus, run a computer-wide scan and see if turns out with any positives. If not, check if your antivirus can detect spyware besides virusses. I don't think this has anything to do with the page itself, because I don't get any such problem with the page. It might be a special trigger in the malware that checks for certain words on a page. – Jack McKalling [ Talk Contrib ] 07:22, 11 October 2018 (UTC)

disruptive editing by Giorgosarv18[edit]

The user Giorgosarv18 (talkcontribslogsblock log) is disruptively editing the crossbow page, repeatedly ignoring and edit warring the redirect page to make it a content page, after having been informed to refer to the style guide. he never gives any reason why he thinks his action should be made, besides believing the page should exist. Crossbows are not in the game yet in any version, and according to the style guide, articles have to exist in some development version before they meet notability. – Jack McKalling [ Talk Contrib ] 20:16, 17 October 2018 (UTC)

I should add that this has also happened on the Pillager page. -BDJP (t|c) 20:18, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
@Nixinova, BDJP007301 and Giorgosarz18: Please discuss this on the talk page instead of continuously reverting. Any more reverts will result in user blocks and possibly page protection. This goes for all of you. This edit war is getting excessive. Also, in the future, please explain your reasoning clearly when making reverts or simply don't make them.-- Madminecrafter12Orange Glazed Terracotta.pngTalk to meLight Blue Glazed Terracotta.png 20:26, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
I just reverted BDJP because he didn't leave an edit summary and I was under the impression according to the Discord that it was fine to have them as articles or articles under redirects. – Nixinova Grid Book and Quill.png Grid Diamond Pickaxe.png 22:21, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
@Nixinova: That makes sense, and I'm not criticizing the fact that you did that at all. I was just saying that at this point, due to the complexity of this edit war and that it's having to be taken to the admin noticeboard, this change should now be discussed on the talk page, and I pinged you because you were one of the users involved with this. That being said, I encourage you to take it to the talk page of the Crossbow page or the community portal now, if you believe what you did benefited the encylcopedia. It's not that difficult to start a discussion. ;) I think that's the general problem right now, not necessarily the edits, but the fact that nobody seems to want to actually discuss it despite repeatedly being reverted.-- Madminecrafter12Orange Glazed Terracotta.pngTalk to meLight Blue Glazed Terracotta.png 22:36, 17 October 2018 (UTC)

Page Move Requests[edit]

The following pages cannot be moved by standard users to match their new 1.13 names due to move protection:

Would an admin be able to complete these moves? --Bg samm (talk) 10:42, 7 August 2018 (UTC)

I would move these, but the thing is, these are not the names in the Bedrock Edition and Legacy Console Edition. Therefore, the only edition in which the new names are the actual names is Java Edition, so moving these could be controversial. You may be interested to see Talk:Monster Spawner#Recent Move suggestion for a similar discussion.-- Madminecrafter12Orange Glazed Terracotta.pngTalk to meLight Blue Glazed Terracotta.png 15:17, 7 August 2018 (UTC)

Global AF caught my constructive edit[edit]

I tried to edit Tutorials/Update_Java to reflect the current status of Oracle's Java versions. I got an error message telling me to post here:

Your action has been automatically identified as harmful, and therefore disallowed.
A brief description of the matched abuse rule for your action is: Global AF - New user adding link at end or in heading
If you believe your edit was constructive, please post a message on the admin noticeboard or notify an admin directly.

-- 10:23, 29 April 2018 (UTC)

Yep, that's the abuse filter. Can you tell us what edit you were trying to make? If you can, then we may be able to do it for you. This specific filter likely blocks all unregistered users as well as registered users who have not made 3 edits yet.-- Madminecrafter12Orange Glazed Terracotta.pngTalk to meLight Blue Glazed Terracotta.png 12:18, 29 April 2018 (UTC)
Three things, mainly:
  • I changed the terminology so that "development versions" (they're not really development vesions) are now referred to as "short-term support versions", same for "stable" and "long-term support versions".
  • The Java 9 download link is now broken because Oracle removed it from their downloads, so I removed that and added a Note with a link to the Java Archive, also saying that Java 9 is no longer supported, will no longer receive security updates and that Oracle recommends you don't use Java 9.
  • I cited the Java Archive page and the the page where Oracle lays out the End-Of-Life dates of Java releases.
  • Updated the latest versions to 1.8.0_172 and 10.0.1
The complete new wikitext that I tried to change it to can be found at https://pastebin.com/raw/4yG5vR4s -- 17:24, 29 April 2018 (UTC)
Ninjaedited the above to include cited links separately because I feared the AF might catch my contribution to this page if I included all the links. -- 17:28, 29 April 2018 (UTC) Ninjaedited the above again to include the "Updatedthe latest versions" because I completely forgot that change. Sorry! -- 17:40, 29 April 2018 (UTC)
Well, I'm very very late here considering it's late November now and this request was in April, but I think I've done what you requested in this edit; although quite a bit has already changed on the page since.  Done. I've added the archive and given you the attribution. Thanks for letting us know! Your edit was caught in an abuse filter which disallows an edit that meets certain conditions across all of Gamepedia. Abuse filters frequently catch false positives, which can be annoying; the filter that caught this one in particular I've noticed frequently catches constructive edits.-- Madminecrafter12Orange Glazed Terracotta.pngTalk to meLight Blue Glazed Terracotta.png 04:18, 31 December 2018 (UTC)
