This guide is a simplified overview of all the changes in the Village and Pillage update (Java Edition 1.14 releases), which assumes at least some familiarity with Update Aquatic (Java Edition 1.13 releases).

Panda

Pandas spawn in Bamboo Forest biomes.
  • Pandas can spawn with either an aggressive, lazy, playful, weak or worried personality.
  • Pandas will eat bamboo, but can only be bred if there is at least eight bamboo blocks within five blocks of each panda.
  • Pandas will pickup and eat cake that is thrown to them.
  • Worried pandas will shake and cover their face during thunderstorms.
Pillager

  • Trader llamas are hostile toward all zombie variants, and illagers. They will also become hostile toward mobs and players that attack the wandering trader they are leashed to.
Wandering Trader

  • Wandering traders spawn randomly in the world within a 48 block radius of the player.
  • Wandering traders have a chance of dropping a bucket of milk if they are holding it when killed.
  • Wandering traders randomly spawn in the world with two trader llamas.
  • Only one wandering trader will exist in the world at any given time, new wandering traders will not spawn until an existing wandering trader despawns.
  • At the night (or when light level is 7 and below) wandering traders drink potion of invisiblity. When light level is above 7, they drink bucket of milk and cancel any effects they have.

  • The main difference between barrels and chests is that barrels can be opened from any side, regardless of orientation or whether there's a solid block on top.

  • Scaffolding is designed to be used for building in survival.
  • Standing in scaffolding and jumping will allow the player to climb, while sneaking will allow the player to descend through the scaffolding. If there is no block below the scaffolding block the player is on the player will not descend through the block.

Sweet berry bushes can be broken with any tool as well as by hand.
  • Sweet berry bushes drop sweet berries by using or when broken, dropping 1-2 berries at age three, and 2-3 berries at age four.
  • Sweet berry bushes slow players while standing in them at age one, as well as deal damage to players while moving at age two and above. Standing still while in sweet berry bushes will deal no damage.
Wither Rose

  • A wither rose will drop from mobs killed by a Wither.
Wither Roses can be broken with any tool as well as by hand.
  • Wither Roses can be be used to craft suspicious stew with the Wither effect.
  • Any mob standing on a Wither rose will be inflicted with one second of the Wither effect for as long as they continue to touch it.

  • The default text color on signs has been changed from black to white.
  • The color of text on signs can be changed with dye now.
  • All original signs have been changed to oak signs.
  • Signs now support editing anywhere on the sign, without having to backspace to the place where the edit is to be made.
  • Signs now have copy and past support.
All Slabs and Stairs
  • Slabs and stairs now have directional opacity, meaning sides that are not completely solid will not block light.
Smooth Stone Slab

  • Name changed from stone slab to smooth stone slab.
  • Recipe now uses smooth stone instead of stone.
Vines

Sweet berries can be harvested from sweet berry bushes. Additionally sweet berries can be found in taiga village house chests.
  • Sweet berries give 2 (Hunger.svg) hunger points when eaten.
  • Sweet berries can be used on grass blocks, dirt, podzol, coarse dirt, and farmland to plant a sweet berry bush sapling.
  • Used to breed foxes.
White Dye

Name Trigger Description
Raid A raid is triggered when a player with the Bad Omen effect enters a village.

During a raid a combination of pillagers, vindicators, evokers, witches, and ravagers, the combination being dependant on the level of the bad omen effect, will spawn arround a village. A boss bar at the top of the screen will show the number of raid enemies still alive within the village.

  • The structure contains one chest at the very top.
The pillager outpost can have a combination of smaller structures surrounding it, these structures include a cage, targets, logs, and a tent.
