This guide is a simplified overview of all the changes in the Frostburn Update (Java Edition 1.10.x releases), which assumes at least some familiarity with the Combat Update (Java Edition 1.9.x releases).

  • When hit, the adults will attack the player, the cubs will run away.
  • Adults will always attack the player when cubs are around.
  • Polar bear cubs will follow adults.
  • Polar bears can swim fast in water.

Spawned Equipment

  • Husks behave like a normal zombie.
  • Husks do not burn in sunlight.
  • Husks apply Hunger when attacking.
    • Hunger is only applied if husk has an empty hand.

Spawned Equipment

  • Strays behave like a normal skeleton.
  • Strays shoot arrows of Slowness (0:30) at the target.

Magma Block

Magma Block
  • Can be generated in the Nether between Y=23 and Y=37.
Can be mined with any pickaxe.
  • Mobs and players take 1♥ damage every second while standing on the magma blocks.
  • Magma blocks will remove the water block on top randomly.
Nether Wart Block

Can be mined with any tool or hand.
  • Can be used as a decorative block.
  • Cannot be crafted back to nether wart.
Red Nether Bricks

  • Hardened clay no longer generate more than 15 blocks deep, if the mesa is more than 15 blocks above sea level.
  • In addition to the normal 2 veins of gold ore below Y=32, it also attempts to generate 20 veins between Y=32 and Y=79.

Fossils generate in the underground in deserts, swamplands and their M and hills variants.
  • Fossils look like the skulls and spines of giant extinct creatures.
Mesa mineshaft
Mineshaft generated in mesa will be a mesa mineshaft.
  • The midpoint of mesa mineshaft is near sea level.
  • Uses dark oak wood for wooden structures.
Zombie village
Villages have a few chances of generating will be a zombie village.

  • Features generate differently if above ground.
    • Cave spider spawners no longer generate if sky light is 8 or more.
    • Wooden structures no longer generate if above is air or sky light is 8 or more.
    • Rails in corridors are more complete if sky light is below 8.
Village Plains village.png
  • Villages are no longer restricted by biome boundaries, meaning that a village that starts in a valid biome can now spread into an adjacent invalid biome.
  • Villages now generate in taigas (but not variants).
  • Village structures now made with the wood type in that biome.
  • In savanna villages, acacia log is used instead of cobblestone.
  • Blacksmiths and churchs now always use cobblestone.
  • Paths are now made with different material depending on the existing terrain.
    • If replacing grass blocks, the path is made from grass path.
    • If replacing water or lava, the path is made from planks.
    • If replacing sand, sandstone, or red sandstone the path is gravel on top of cobblestone.
      • In desert villages, sandstone is used instead of gravel and cobblestone.
Huge mushroom
  • Huge mushrooms now have a chance of generating twice as tall as normal.
  • No longer turn adjacent sand blocks in the ceiling into sandstone when generating.
End portal End Portal.png
  • Now replace all blocks inside the portal frame ring when activating.



Name Description
  • Automatically makes the player jump when running towards a one-block-tall obstacle.
