Creepers[edit]

Creepers have a chance of dropping up to 2 pieces of gunpowder upon death.

Ghasts[edit]

Ghasts have a chance of dropping up to 2 pieces of gunpowder upon death.

Witches[edit]

Witches have a chance of dropping up to 6 pieces of gunpowder upon death.

Natural generation[edit]

Gunpowder can be found in 57.8% of dungeon chests, 59.0% of desert temple chests, and 57.8% of woodland mansion chests, all in stacks of 1–8. In 1.13[upcoming] they can be found in 26.0% of shipwreck supply chests in stacks of 1–5.

In Bedrock Edition they can be found in 26.0% of shipwreck supply chests in stacks of 1–5.

Adding more gunpowder increases the duration of the rocket. Up to three gunpowder can be used. Up to five firework stars can also be used with three gunpowder. Up to seven firework stars can be used by using firework stars instead of additional gunpowder. All firework stars will go off simultaneously when the rocket detonates.
