The Birch Forest biome is a common lush biome. It usually generates near other lush biomes, and has four variations counting the main biome.

Description[edit]

The birch forest biome is a quite hilly biome that features a vast amount of only birch trees across its landscape. They generate densely, but not densely enough to cast sufficient shadows to allow hostile mobs to spawn in daytime. Rose bushes, lilacs and peonies generate in this biome relatively commonly, as well as the usual dandelions, poppies, tall grass, and rarely, pumpkins. Like almost every other land biome in the game, water and lava lakes can generate here, which may cause fast-spreading fires due to the density of flammable trees. The grass and foliage color is a dull green/turquoise hue, much like the rivers that often run across this biome, which makes them hard to distinguish from the main birch forest biome. No unique mobs or structures are found in this biome.

This biome provides a decent source of wood and animal food, much like the main forest. Survival here is a bit tricky, however, due to the low visibility between birch trees and because mobs like skeletons and zombies are able to protect themselves in daytime by hiding under leaves, and then appearing and attacking the player when they are unaware. Building shelter here can also be frustrating, due to having to clean up the zone before, and because the reduced block palette this biome has compared to other biomes.

Variants[edit]

The birch forest biome has three variants, for a total of four distinct birch forest biomes.

The Tall Birch Forest (known as Birch Forest M before 1.13) features birch trees that generate significantly taller than normal. This makes harvesting wood more difficult, but allows more wood to be collected in the long run.
