Old .ogg files not following their copyright

EDIT: FILES ALL FIXED NOW.

Old .ogg files surpass the 30 second limit and therefore does not abide the agreement between the wiki and C418.

A list of all affected files:

Should be fixed now; thanks for catching this. It looks like someone on the German wiki had uploaded the full tracks back when we had a shared file database, which overwrote the tracks here without leaving any indication on the description pages. -- Orthotope^talk 05:13, 20 December 2013 (UTC)

Music Disc would be unaffected (unless you mean Music, which would be moved to Music (disambiguation)). As for Music being a disambig page, in most cases where we link the article, we have used a piped link to link directly to the article rather than the disambig, while displaying the title "Music" (basically per the line from the bottom of disambig pages). –KnightMiner ^t/_c 01:18, 17 May 2015 (UTC)

Columns in that table

Is it alright to have just 4 columns that are: Gameplay / Music Discs / Soundtrack / Track, and just as Soundtrack distinguishes Alpha and Beta, Gameplay distinguishes the update when the music was added (and when it was removed)? – Sealbudsman (Aaron) ^t/_c 23:50, 17 May 2015 (UTC)

The historical columns should really be moved to a new history section as the style guide requires, and any removed tracks to a "removed tracks" subsection of the history section or the removed features article.

Likewise, I would suggest merging the gameplay and music disc column into one which simply states where it is heard in game (creative mode, nether, music disc, etc.), as there is no case where both say "yes", so it seems like a useless distinction. –KnightMiner ^t/_c 03:50, 18 May 2015 (UTC)

The tracks calm 1, calm 2, and calm 3 were all in Minecraft Classic. Not sure exactly when they were added, but shouldn't this be reflected in the history section?

Split this one as well

I've had a thought at the back of my head ever since proposing to split Status effect and Enchanting that we should maybe also split this page as well;

• Splitting this page into different articles would allow more room for information about each track to be noted. Currently, we don't even have a descriptive sentence for each one - just a few columns in a table with no personality whatsoever.
• Certain other wikis, such as the Undertale and Silent Hill wikis, have their OSTs split up into a page for each track.
• Currently, the trivia section lists a bunch of jumbled information about many different tracks - splitting the page would allow for this information to be noted on the specific track's page instead. Similar can be said for the History section.
• On some devices (tested on an ipad air 2) the sheer amount of audio files stacked up here cause the page to lag considerably when scrolling past them, which obviously is not a good thing.

I do not see the value in splitting this music page up. The reason for this being is that there's very few information (as far as I know), if any, available for every track, apart from the music discs (though those have their own page already, with bits and bobs described about the tracks).

The reason the wikis you mentioned, have split their music stuff up, is most likely because there's a specific scene (in both Undertale's and Silent Hill's case) where this song plays. However, in our case, the music is played pretty much at random - the only variation is Overworld, Nether, End and credits. This is also a reason why I don't see the value in splitting it up either.

As for the page's loading time - the iPad Air 2 was first released in 2014 (with its hardware designed many years earlier). Through updates and higher software requirements for current applications, it's quite understandable it'll get slower over time or just cannot cope with stuff used today. —DarkShadowTNT (t ♦ c) 16:26, 1 March 2019 (UTC)

 Oppose splitting; I don't think there's any significant information that could be put onto each article (particularly not beyond that found on the Minecraft - Volume Alpha and Minecraft - Volume Beta articles, which have the very short descriptions from the soundtrack itself). As for performance, I don't have any issues on my super old laptop. I was going to ask you to check burger which inlines a lot of sounds (and is a large and laggy page), but it turns out I actually don't insert the sound elements directly (only after clicking a button). For the page: it's possible that the sounds are being automatically preloaded by the browser; I don't know how that works (and given how old the iPod Air is, I'm not sure if there's anything that can be done about it). --Pokechu22 (talk) 16:30, 4 March 2019 (UTC)

There are multiple valid arguments explaining why the page should not be split, five participants with no support, and the discussion has been open since March 1 with the last comment being on March 7. Separate pages

I know someone already said it and was opposed, but I think, as the post was old, a new one would fit more.

We need those for this reasons:

• Trivia separated
• History separated
• In-depth description of song:

• Length
• Instruments
• Genre
• Played where and when?

• More organization, generally
• Quicker load-time because of the many audios

Along with editing your example and template I've went ahead and created another, more comprehensive example over at User:User-12316399/Music_examples/Sweden. Music not working right

Does anyone else have an issue with Java edition's music files not playing in-game? I play for a few hours at a time and very rarely hear any of Minecraft's music. Title screen music works fine and when I load a world, one track plays, but once that one track is done, I almost never hear another song until the next time I load the world. The wiki page says "In-game music is cued by the time of day, with a random track being played at sunrise, sunset, noon and midnight" but that doesn't seem to be the case for me. I'm pretty sure the sunrise/sunset/noon/midnight statement is wrong; I remember seeing it years back and it seeming wrong but I never did more research. It seems odd particularly because of the length of some of the songs. I'm not sure of what the actual behavior is, though. --Pokechu22 (talk) 03:09, 5 March 2019 (UTC)

From music_definition.json, Overworld music that play in survival gamemode are based on delay, not based on sunrise/sunset/noon/midnight. When entering the world, music start to play, then another music play after 600-1200 seconds (10-20 minutes), but at least that how music played in Bedrock, maybe different in Java. 30 seconds

As itʼs well known, only 30-second excerpts from music files except “11” are allowed on this wiki. Do they have to be taken from the tracksʼ start, or they can be taken from the middle (that would make sense for tracks like the roughly 10-minute End theme). "Composer" category

With the addition of new music by Lena Raine, should we add a "Composer" category to the table? It's only 3 tracks that are not done by C418, but there might be more.

Tracks that aren't by C418

Track Ordering

The canonical ordering of the aquatic tracks (track number tag in the ogg metadata) is:

1. Shuniji
2. Dragon Fish
3. Axolotl

Should we rearrange them in the article to correspond to the official ordering, or should we keep them alphabetical?
As for the nether update tracks, they don't have track no. tags. What can be gleamed from the ogg metadata is that they were composed in Reaper DAW. (Kuraine has also tweeted about it in the past.) I would arrange them alphabetically, since this is more intuitive to readers. On top of that, the internal order may be different in Bedrock Edition (Note: These tracks are currently only in the betas). The Blobs 21:03, 23 April 2020 (UTC)

Lost history of time-indicating music

I've just come back to Minecraft after a year or two's vacation, and noticed a change in the Overworld music that led me back here. I am reasonably sure that until some fairly recent version (at least 1.12 or so), the Overworld music would play four times a day, a random choice after dawn, before sunset, and roughly noon and midnight.

From gameplay in the 1.16 snapshots, it became fairly clear that wasn't happening anymore, and coming back to this page confirms that it's now playing at random times... but looking at the History section, I see no hint that music was ever connected to the passage of time, and that just isn't right. I'm certain it used to be scheduled, because that was in fact useful, being a way to get a loose sense of time even when deep underground. --MentalMouse42 (talk) 13:42, 26 April 2020 (UTC)

Nether vs. Nether Wastes

Regarding the old songs used for the Nether overall, do those still plays sometimes in the Nether Wastes? Or is it only Rubedo now? Also, do these play in the other biomes at all? Aepokk (talk) 22:28, 16 June 2020 (UTC)

Old nether music still play in the Nether, those are not biome specific and played in any Nether biomes except in Warped Forest. There just a chance new nether music played instead of old music. ImakerB (talk) 03:33, 17 June 2020 (UTC)

What?

So on my phone I was playing minecraft peacefully on my Slime Rancher obby. It's there until I passed the first part, guessing what slime is there. I guessed Rad Slime (because that was the answer) and as soon as I got on the Raddie's radiation ring I heard Cave Sound 14 and when I heard it I quickly exited minecraft. Cave Sound 14 is a creepy loop, and when you view it in a spectogram the image it makes is a Creeper's face! 24.99.194.186 23:00, 12 August 2020 (UTC)

Music pages for other games

There aren't any music pages for the other games, like Earth and Dungeons. I feel like they deserve to have their own pages, as they all have their own exclusive songs, as well as songs ripped from Minecraft. Maybe the soundtrack for both Minecraft Story Mode's seasons and the Legacy Console Edition's Minigames (Battle, Tumble and Glide) deserve their own page(s).
