Music discs

2 questions abou my suggestion for the trivia:

  1. What I did was I figured out that it is 49 by first figureing out that there is a 100% chance you will get a song you don't have on the first attempt. On the second attempt, one is taken, so there is an 11 in 12 chance you will get a new one, so on average, this will take 12 elevenths of an attempt before you succeed. And so on. After 12 succeces, you have all the songs. When you add up the average numbers of attempts for a success for each song, you will get about 49 (check a calculator)
  2. Why is it not a good trivia?71.35.109.25 04:06, 27 February 2015 (UTC)

It does not fit our notability guidelines, as it likely just contained a test edit. It also is a high target for test edits, which belong on the MCW:Sandbox instead. KnightMiner t/c 15:12, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
Test pages tend to clutter the wiki without adding anything useful. You can either use the dedicated sandbox KnightMiner mentioned, or create an account and make a test page in your userspace. -- Orthotopetalk 15:47, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
Didn't it redirect to MCW:Sandbox?67.160.25.176 22:31, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
Even if it did, cross namespace redirects are generally avoided, as the main namespace is for pages about Minecraft, so you would not expect a page there to bring you to a page about the Minecraft Wiki. There are a few exceptions, but those are only kept because they were shortcuts before we had the MCW: shortcut. KnightMiner t/c 01:58, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

Giant Epic Walls

Hi there!

Noticed that you removed a photo I posted to the Wiki, named Giant Epic Walls. Just wanted to clear out that the photo was part of a failed attempt at adding the photo to the Amplified page, mainly because I have no idea how to add photos to articles using the source mode. Just wanted to clear this out since some wikis have a Zero-tolerance level for unnecessary photos (Im unsure if this applies for this Wiki, so I just want to be sure). I crossed the photo out and thought it was deleted, but I must clearly have been wrong about that...

--FantasiIFrittFall (talk) 18:36, 28 June 2015 (UTC)

Sometimes people have tried to use the wiki as a hosting service – uploading files here just to link to them from other sites – so I tend to delete new files if it doesn't look like there's been an attempt to put it on an article within a few hours of uploading. It's nothing personal, and you're welcome to upload it again if you think you can add it to the article. (Whether or not other editors will think it's a useful image is another issue, which I don't have control over.)
Wiki syntax can be tricky to learn. Sometimes you can copy another part of the article and modify it to do what you want. There's a comprehensive guide to images on MediaWiki. We also have a sandbox page where you can make test edits without worrying about breaking any articles. -- Orthotopetalk 01:09, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

Consistent reverting/adding unsourced info/moving pages without discussing from Tyevskyo

Hi, In the last few days I have noticed that Tyevskyo has been consistently moving pages without discussing, adding unsourced info, and reverting changes made by admins. It's really annoyed me to the point where i need to report him.

Below are some example pages of him adding unsourced info, moving pages without discussing, and/or reverting changes from admins (You'll need to review the edit history to see this):

  1. Pocket Edition version history
  2. Pocket Edition Alpha 0.12.0
  3. Pocket Edition version history/Development versions

For example today I had to undo his mess created by him moving the third page into "Pocket Edition Version History/Alpha/Development versions". Because of this I am requesting a block to his account for at least 2 weeks, add more if you find it necessary. That's all I ask for. --MarioProtIV (talk) 00:14, 11 July 2015 (UTC)

If a user's behavior needs discussing, it should generally be brought it to the admin noticeboard, rather than a single admin's talk page.
Though in this case, I would suggest you attempt to discuss this with Tyevskyo on his talk page first. Just blocking him for something like disruptive behavior without mentioning what behavior is disruptive is not constructive. KnightMiner t/c 01:00, 11 July 2015 (UTC)
Ah ok, thanks, I will discuss this with him. --MarioProtIV (talk) 01:13, 11 July 2015 (UTC)
I did stop after you gave me a reason. I was not mercilessly editing pages, I was simply making the pages more accurate by adding "Alpha", and I was not continually undoing Admin work. Tyevskyo (talk) 16:12, 12 July 2015 (UTC)
Infact, you did the exact same thing to me, so I wouldn't be talking. Also this means your a hypocrite and that whatever punishment I get you should get as well Tyevskyo (talk) 16:12, 12 July 2015 (UTC)
I will also mention how my information is not unsourced (due to the fact that it says alpha on Template:version history nav), also you're the only one bothered by this so therefore you are the nuisance. I rest my case. Tyevskyo (talk) 16:19, 12 July 2015 (UTC)
MCPE is not in beta yet so moving all those pages to have "Alpha" in it is just unnecessary at this time. When a PE dev announces that the next version will be in the Beta phase, then it can be moved. You, however didn't bring it up with the admins. --MarioProtIV (talk) 17:53, 12 July 2015 (UTC)

Collapsed list

I know I may sound stupid for putting it here, but how would I get a collapsible list to work in an infobox (Story Mode)? Here's an example on the Tales from the Borderlands Wikipedia page (Its near the bottom of the infobox). -BDJP (t|c) 03:12, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

Looks like Wikipedia uses a template and Lua module, which we could import if necessary. I'm not sure if a regular collapsible wikitable (i.e., {| class="wikitable collapsible collapsed" ...) would work in an infobox, but it doesn't hurt to try (using show preview or a sandbox page). -- Orthotopetalk 03:52, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

Difficulty

What did you mean by unexplained changes? The BlobsPaper 22:44, 18 September 2015 (UTC)

The effects of difficulty setting, regional difficulty, etc. as documented on the page are based on analysis of the Minecraft source code by several contributors, including Anomie x and myself. I believe it is accurate and complete, at least for 1.8; I haven't tried to make sense of the obfuscated 1.9 snapshots yet. You added a claim that difficulty affects the number of mobs that spawn, but without providing any source code analysis, a changelog or other relevant statement from Mojang, or any other sort of evidence to support that claim. I'm willing to add this to the page if you can provide proof, but we can't just take your word for it; this wiki has enough trouble with people adding misleading or false information already. -- Orthotopetalk 00:13, 19 September 2015 (UTC)

Mentioned features/Sky Dimension

Recently you have reverted my edit adding the {{Removedstillingame}} template to the Sky Dimension page, saying "it's still been completely removed." I believe you are wrong, because on the page it even states "However, starting in Beta 1.9-pre3, it was given its own region: Region 2, with Region 1 being the Nether." which means that the code for th Sky Dimension is still in the game. The page also states "Using various mods it is possible to access this currently unfinished version of the Sky Dimension." which further proves that the code is in the game and that the template should be used. Wolffillms (talk) 19:01, 11 November 2015 (UTC)

Sometime after Beta 1.9 – probably in 1.0, but I'm not sure of the exact version – the Sky Dimension code was removed completely. There is no longer any code for generating Sky Dimension terrain, and nothing uses Region 2. The statement about being accessible using mods is referring to Beta 1.6 and Beta 1.7, not current versions. -- Orthotopetalk 19:32, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
The information on that page dates back to 2011: the Region 2 bit was included in October that year and the bit about using various mods was included in May. Is there any indication that this is all still the case? I doubt it. If we're talking about what's enabled by mods, maybe you can identify which 1.7 or 1.8 (release versions) mods can still do this. If we're talking about what's left in the code, we have users here who could probably identify such anomalies, though I think it would be a fair bit of effort. Either way I don't see evidence for it. – Sealbudsman talk/contr 19:40, 11 November 2015 (UTC)

BDJP007301 is spreading false information and has deleted the console planned versions page multiple times. XAJR187x (talk) 15:46, 11 December 2015 (UTC)

Knock it off. He may have added false information, but in any case he did not know it was false, so he is not intentionally adding incorrect information. He also has never made edits trying to harm the wiki, so why do you as a new user here assume he is suddenly trying to harm the wiki? Assume good faith!
The correct course of action here is to attempt to discuss this with him (as maybe he has a good source it was released). Don't go around asking for a block because he does something you disagree with (and don't say you already tried discussing it with him, you left all of ten minutes for him to respond before asking for a block). It happens when two people try to undo an edit at the same time. One person submits the change first, and their name appears in the logs. Crafting Templates

So I wrote a nice little message with formalities and everything, but for some reason my message did not save when I saved the page. Anyway, I'm SamwiseFilmore, an Admin on the Wiki for the lotr mod (here), and we have an image problem. We use png's to show crafting, and with more than 8,000 uploads, it would be easier to use a system like you have here. A few questions. If you aren't the person to ask, please point me towards the correct talk page. First of all, is it legal for us to use what you have made here? If it is, then how hard would it be to migrate to wikia for use, and get entirely set up with as many (if not more) assets as regular Vanilla Minecraft has? ~Samwise 50.109.96.187 20:14, 11 April 2016 (UTC)

Majr is a better person to ask, as he's more familiar with how the crafting templates work. I'm not a lawyer, but my understanding is that it probably wouldn't be okay to copy the system directly, since the CC-BY-NC-SA license here requires content to be redistributed under the same license, and Wikia uses the slightly different CC-BY-SA license. -- Orthotopetalk 23:05, 11 April 2016 (UTC)
Alright, I pointed him to this thread. I'll post a message on the wall of one of our admins who knows how to do this better than I. ~Samwise 50.109.96.187 02:27, 12 April 2016 (UTC)
Well... if you documented the mod on the ftb: wiki (which, despite the name, documents mods in general), you wouldn't have any issues with licensing, plus they already have some modified version of our crafting system. ;)
Otherwise, if whatever legal issues were resolved, you'd at least need Scribunto and DPL extensions installed first, then the basic crafting template should just require Template:Crafting and its module and dependencies, and the styling from MediaWiki:Common.css for .invslot, .mcui and .sprite (also .animated, and the element animator script from MediaWiki:Common.js, if you want animation). Then you'd set up a sprite containing all the images you want for crafting (see Template:InvSprite for examples, you essentially need Module:InvSprite, Module:InvSprite/IDs, File:InvSprite.png and the .inv-sprite styling in Common.css), then perhaps make some minor modifications, such as removing the ingredient categories from Module:Crafting (the automated crafting usage is a whole other kettle of fish you probably wouldn't want to deal with), then it will probably work. Thanks for posting. This is probably an insanely stupid question for a number of reasons, the foremost being that it is probably going completely against how the scripts are structured. But anywho, would it be possible to use many smaller icons instead of a sprite image? Smaller icons is a lot more files, and might be dirtier in some ways, but cleaner in other ways, especially in the file change record department. Also easier to make... ~Samwise 50.109.96.187 01:24, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
It originally used individual icons (many of them still exist), so you can find an old version to do that, however the performance will be far worse, both server-side and client-side. MajrTalk

Redirect delete

I realized I left a number of redirects (some that you have removed), so how do I remove redirects to save admins from having to find and remove them all? | AndrewAB (talk) 08:17, 6 July 2016 (UTC)

Only admins can delete pages, but don't worry about it. Redirects aren't inherently bad, and are often quite useful. The main issue is that double redirects (ones that point to another redirect page) don't work, so when moving pages you should check for and fix them. I was just cleaning up double redirects and since those ones weren't linked to by anything, I decided to delete them instead of fixing them to point to the actual page. -- Orthotopetalk 18:57, 6 July 2016 (UTC)

If you're referring to this, it's because there is no such image in the game files, and our rules prohibit any kind of joke content or misinformation from being added to articles. -- Orthotopetalk 20:03, 3 August 2016 (UTC)

Why did you revert the cape page?"

What is it you don't like about it, what was the reason to change it back? –Preceding unsigned comment was added by KidFlxsh (talkcontribs) at 7:12, 29 September 2016 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

The originals cropped the player instead of excessive background border, had a bit of a side view of the cape instead of just the back, and had less distracting backgrounds instead of a checkerboard of random blocks that don't even appear vanilla. Plus, where relevant the original had the actual cape owners skin (for those special exclusive to a player ones). In any case, the only real improvements that would be relevant would be replacing the skins with a generic Steve or Alex or removing the background entirely, neither of which your pictures did (instead doing the opposite in a few cases). According to the video policy, all these videos should be taken down as well:

http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Wolf#Video

http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/The_Player#Video

http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Chicken#Video

http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Enderman#Video

...and just about every other video that is about a minecraft entity.

Edit: I get it, you can only have "Curse.com" video's on entities. That is a really dumb rule. –Preceding unsigned comment was added by Wildboy211 (talkcontribs) at 5:25, 25 October 2016 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

Curse owns all the Gamepedia wikis, so we don't have a choice about it. -- Orthotopetalk 05:37, 25 October 2016 (UTC)

1: Why the caps? Is your caps lock key stuck?
2: I have no idea what is going on with the blocked ip because I was offline when it happened.
3: Please remember to sign your posts with 4 tildas in a row.
4:You seriously need to check your spelling.
5: Do you think yelling at them will help anything?
6: Your typing style seems very familiar... I think we met before on another website. Maybe distractionware/tolp?

If you want to complain about a user block, I need to know which account or IP address was blocked. -- Orthotopetalk 21:23, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
Here goes nothing. 173.215.216.190 and 65.23.242.92--65.23.255.61 19:46, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
My old IP adresses, i missed them too--65.23.255.61 20:59, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
None of those addresses have been blocked. -- Orthotopetalk 22:38, 26 November 2016 (UTC)
Honestly , you remind me of somebody I met on another site. I think you actually are that person. All caps , complaining about being banned , Undertale references... reminds me of somebody I met on tolp. I was the only one who didn't hate you. I wanna know if you have an account on tolp forums or it's just a coincidence. 264 rings a bell doesn't it? Boorider7 (talk) 13:55, 27 November 2016 (UTC)

MediaWiki:Filename-prefix-blacklist

Needs an update. One could potentially upload a file starting with 2016 or 2017, which are generally not descriptive enough. The BlobsPaper 00:17, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

Sweeping edge redirect page

What I meant in my edit summary was that in pages, enchantment names are supposed to be manually capitalized, according to another revert that Sealbudsman did. The BlobsPaper 20:09, 30 January 2017 (UTC)

Our style guide does call for enchantments to be capitalized. However, we don't have control over links from other websites, such as the forums. -- Orthotopetalk 20:41, 30 January 2017 (UTC)
