Wither Skeleton Skull paradox?

Okay. Let me get things straight. I haven't read every single discussion, so I don't know if someone has said this already, but nevertheless, how are you supposed to find Wither Skeleton Heads if you have to make a Wither and kill it to get one? Or do they spawn naturally? I didn't see that in the page, but if so how do you find them and where? Please, send someone to my aid to help me with my confusion!! 8-| –Preceding unsigned comment was added by 172.56.0.14 (talk) at 18:46, 1 January 2015 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

You kill wither skeletons. -MinecraftPhotos4U (talk) 19:03, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
The wither itself drops a nether star, not a skull. Fyreboy5 (talk) 15:12, 7 December 2015 (UTC)

Kill wither skeletons to get their skulls. You have to be patient because the skulls are rare drops. It only has a 2% chance of dropping it. I'd recommend using a weapon enchanted with looting III --Theneonracer137 (talk) 23:20, 26 December 2015 (UTC)

Global AF?

For some reason, I can't add a video to this page. It's supposed to show the Wither's new PE "dash attack." But "Global AF" won't let me add it. A little help? --Magmaface (talk) 13:25, 19 October 2016 (UTC)

It was triggered by the external link in your edit. We can't do anything about the global filters, they apply to all of gamepedia. Once you've made a few edits, they won't apply to you any more. MajrTalk

Got it.

--Magmaface (talk) 15:34, 21 October 2016 (UTC)

What even?

Now whatever edit I make there resets. Why? Magmaface (talk) 15:23, 27 October 2016 (UTC)

You can read the edit history to see the edit summaries on whoever reverted your edits.
I saw you were putting a video in a reference; just to let you know, that isn't something you can do. Please see Help:Official_sources for what counts as a reference, in this wiki. Also right at the top of the page, it says that you don't need a reference if it is something you can see in the game. So you don't need a reference for the wither's new PE attack. – Sealbudsman talk/contr 15:34, 27 October 2016 (UTC)

That makes sense, now. Magmaface (talk) 15:36, 27 October 2016 (UTC)

Wither rose?

Can't see any mention of the wither rose?

It doesn’t have it’s own page, but you can find info about it in the Flower and Wither Effect pages. TBFTE123 (talk) 11:37, 29 September 2020 (UTC)

Orientation?

Can someone please clarify what this sentence in the "Spawning" section means?

"The block arrangement can have any orientation: it can be upright, flat, sideways, and even upside-down." SlimyJoey (talk) 18:09, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

It means you can rotate that block arrangement, and it will still make a Wither, even if you build it sideways, upside-down, etc. – Sealbudsman talk/contr 18:49, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

The Wither seeing Invisible players in Console Edition

BDJP007301 and 92.234.189.34 (the anon who made a recent edit to this page indicating that the Wither can see invisible mobs), can we identify whether in Console Edition, the Invisibility effect is ineffective against mobs in general, as it says in MCCE-506?

If Invisibility doesn't affect how any mob can see players in Console Edition, then we should move that anon's note to the Invisibility page and remove it from here. – Sealbudsman talk/contr 23:06, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

Support Can a Console Edition player test this? The BlobsPaper 23:20, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
Hi guys. IP editor that did the edit, here.
I've got the Vita next to me, I'll have a run around a snow biome at night while Invisibile and see what happens, expect another reply stating if mobs saw me or not. 92.234.189.34 23:24, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
Sealbudsman and Blobs2 Okay I've got some results. Tested 2 Zombies, a Spider, a Skeleton, and 2 Creepers. Pretty much all of them looked at me but didn't attack. They do attack however, if you push them or hit them. It sounds to me like it's something 4J Studios would have called fixed? Makes sense that they'd know you're there when you push them. I think? Draw your own conclusions on that I guess. 92.234.189.34 23:49, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
Bugs should not be mentioned at all. The BlobsPaper 01:17, 11 January 2017 (UTC)

Suspicious redirect from last "reference" on page.

The last item in the "References" section promises to go to " http://ata4.info/mcdim/", but in fact goes to "theclickcheck.com", which demands to know where you came from and sports an apparently non-functional "Continue" button. --MentalMouse42 (talk) 16:09, 14 April 2017 (UTC)

 Removed . Thanks! – Sealbudsman talk/contr 17:06, 14 April 2017 (UTC)

Wither health in Pocket Edition

Mentioned as 600 HP, the history section on this page lists the change as introduced in 0.16.0 build 4. This change is listed on neither Pocket Edition Alpha 0.16.0 build 4 nor Pocket Edition Alpha 0.16.0. Does this mob really have 600 HP in Pocket Edition? Some ru.wiki users started to question that as well. (I cannot verify either measurement, I don't have a device capable of running PE.) --AttemptToCallNil (report bug, view backtrace) 14:13, 8 June 2017 (UTC)

If it was specifically said as a change, then it is probably true. The BlobsPaper 01:43, 9 June 2017 (UTC)
It would be in the behavior pack, I think. – Sealbudsman talk/contr 02:59, 9 June 2017 (UTC)

I can confirm it's 600, looking at the behavior pack. – Sealbudsman talk/contr 04:14, 9 June 2017 (UTC)

Wither skull clutter/artifacts.

When I fight withers, often I end up with floating skulls I can't do anything about.

It took me lots of searching to figure it out, but in creative mode, you can remove these by using the command:

/kill @e[type=wither_skull]

This might be easy for many people to figure out, but it might be useful to address here. Or not; researchers may end up digging through the talk section and get it here, so it's all good.–Preceding unsigned comment was added by 204.210.100.234 (talk) at 29 October 2017 (UTC). Another way to beat The Wither

Another way to beat The Wither, the way I did it was the following:

-Brew potions Health Potion x3 (upgrade to Health Regen. II) Strength Potion x2 (Upgrade one to Strength II, and the other to last longer) Health Regeneration x1 (Upgrade it to last longer) -Bring Gold apples -Equip enchanted armor. Any works, but I used diamond and iron. Preferred enchantments for this: Unbreaking III and up, and Protection II and up. -Equip Diamond Sword. Doesn't matter if it's Enchanted or not -Bring a bow, and a lot of arrows -Find a place FAR away from any civilization, and build. Back away and wait for the explosion, and save. Then drink Strength Potion II. When that wears off, drink the other strength potion. Go up close and personal. -As soon as The Wither gets close to half health, back away, and start firing arrows until it causes another explosion -Go close and personal with it AFTER the second explosion -It dies. (You might not use all the potions) TheRealBurningMoon (talk) 16:17, 15 February 2018 (UTC)

TheRealBurningMoon, that does sound like an effective tactic. However, note that this page is only for talking about encyclopedic information about the wither. A better place to discuss this would probably be on the talk page of Tutorials/Defeating the wither. If you want, I think it would be fine to go ahead and add this to that tutorial page, just remember to follow the style guide; basically, make sure to maintain proper punctuation, capitalization, and a neutral and informative tone. I would also suggest you get familiar with wiki text, as many times if you're editing the source, the output does not look the same as the input (a great guide for this is the cheatsheet on Wikipedia) Also, welcome to the wiki - we are happy to have you here!--Orange Glazed TerracottaMadminecrafter12TalkContributions 16:22, 15 February 2018 (UTC)

The Wither's Charge Query

The page states "it will now dash towards its target like a missile, destroying most blocks." but do we have a list of what blocks are effected by this charge? What blocks are destroyed by it and what blocks can it not pass? I know from my old arena it will destroy Cobble with ease while its blasts will not. Bthrzerox (talk) 02:02, 24 February 2018 (UTC)

It can’t destroy Bedrock, Command Blocks, Extended Pistons, End Portal Blocks, and End Portal Frames, Every other block, it is capable of destroying. TBFTE123 (talk) 11:40, 29 September 2020 (UTC)

Does Wither Attack Drowned

Can Someone Please check whether the Wither Attacks the Drowned Mob (Upcoming 1.13) as it is also considered Undead.–Preceding unsigned comment was added by 182.70.137.16 (talk) at March 26, 2018 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

I would assume not? But I'm not completely sure - when I get a chance to, I'll try it out in game.--Orange Glazed Terracotta Madminecrafter12TC 16:28, 26 March 2018 (UTC)
I just tried creating a wither over an ocean in creative mode (Bedrock), and it ignored drowned. It spent its time taking potshots at every single fish, dolphin, and squid it could find. I created one over an ocean monument and it even targeted guardians — and this wasn't collateral damage from targeting other nearby fish, I saw it fire at guardians that had no other targets in the vicinity. I added this fact to the article. I imagine it'll keep doing that forever because nothing will come along to kill it.
I also tried flying after one of the skulls it fired horizontally, and it seemed to go forever, sailing out of sight when I got tired of following it. I imagine a wither skull in flight has a lifetime similar to a ghast's fireball, unlimited range but expiring after a minute. ~ Amatulic (talk) 22:27, 9 February 2019 (UTC)

I guess the Wither picks and chooses its battles. TBFTE123 (talk) 11:42, 29 September 2020 (UTC)

The Wither DOES attack undead mobs in BE.SlingingDart612 (talk) 22:02, 21 October 2020 (UTC)

Infinite Attenuation Range

I am the one who changed one of the sounds' attenuation ranges to the infinity symbol since everyone hears a Wither summon. Was that OK for me to do? (I was using an IP.)

In BE Wither Attacks EVERY mob except other Withers

I do not understand because in bedrock edition the wither attacks every mob except other withers, I edited the page and it was reset. SlingingDart612 (talk) 22:03, 21 October 2020 (UTC)

I just tested on Bedrock Edition, and they do not attack the mobs listed. You might be on an outdated version of Minecraft. – Unavailablehoax (talk) 22:42, 21 October 2020 (UTC)

My subjects about Wither

Wither can destroy fluid!‌[Bedrock Edition only] If can he do this, please help me if wither can really drown underwater?– Unsigned comment added by 189.6.240.140 (talk) at 14:41, 5 February 2021 (UTC). Sign comments with ~~~~

The wither cannot drown in all editions of the game since it is an undead mob and a boss mob. James Haydon (talk) 14:43, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
Wither shouldn't break fluid! Can Wither drown? Why Wither does not blow up on death?
Difference between Java Edition and Bedrock Edition
Java Edition: Wither within his next phase he do not summon wither skeletons.
Bedrock Edition: Wither can lay down and advance up summoning Wither Skeletons.

The Wither

The wither photo only shows the Black wither, but there is also the passive pink wither that was an april fools update, so you might want to add that.

Wither Mob tracking (Java)

I think it would be quite helpful to add in the behavior section how far a wither can track mobs. I tested it in Java 1.16.2 and it appears to be in a 40 Block radius. However I´m not confident enough to make an edit myself. If someone could verify this and put it in this article would be great.

The problem of health values in Bedrock Edition

With help of the new /damage command, I tested the health of Wither by summon using /summon and damage it using /damage @e[type=wither] <damage_value> entity_attack in 1.18.20.25, and I realized the value currently show on the page seems incorrect, and that value should be difficulty-depend, the health values I founded by following:

  • Easy: 358♥ × 179
  • Normal: 536♥ × 268
  • Hard: 715♥ × 357.5
