How to post a world file on a server

Seriously, I made a supercool world in the idea I could post it, but I can't figure out how.

Cleanup

Most of the things mentioned in the article are still valid, for the most part, however, some parts are not. Specifically, the FAQs are old, and don't apply with the latest version of the game, and it seems that there's really no need for them to be there any more either. It's also a bad idea using manual Java PATHs on Windows, as it should work with just "java" and also works reguardless of whether they are using 32bit/64bit/different-installation-paths. The default Java installation does NOT update the path variable! If the server requires Java in the path, then the user will have to add it manually. (Note: Minecraft itself works fine without having Java in the path.)

Also, on Windows the Java download page strongly recommends using the 32-bit version, even with 64-bit Windows. This is because most people want to use Java in the browser, and almost everybody is using 32-bit browsers. If someone really wants 64-bit Java, they need to do several extra clicks to reach the right download. From a bit of testing in my VMs, JRE 1.7 x86 builds will not properly set to the system PATH. Testing out with JRE 1.8, Java seems to properly set to the system PATH on both 64 and 32 bit builds. I'm not sure how much longer it will take for Oracle to push JRE 1.8 to java.com (it seems to be taking a while..), but for now I think we should link to Oracle's download page instead of worring about Java's "browser autodetection" tools. java -version -d64 can also be used to determine what OS arc Java is currently using.

My point is that making batch files (or even boringly explaining to people how to edit/add/set EnvVars) to statically point to Java installations is bad practice, and as users can change installation directories (either based on custom setting, or using 32/64 bit java) this is definitely not a trivial thing to have people do. Linux Tutorial Needs Editing for clarity

I managed to install a minecraft server on my ubuntu OS but only after I realized the errors I had made while reading the guide. Specifically the part about starting the server. Something should be said about the specifics of the terminal commands like whether or not to include nogui because I rather like a gui. There's also the matter of the wording the guide uses when it says substitute the words "minecraft server." On a side note I'd say that noob linux users like myself should be reminded that they should type the whole name of the .jar file ie. Minecraftserver.1.7.4.jar.

Mistake? in Java batch file example

Hi, just getting a batch file for my son and I noticed that 1048 and 2048 are given for the memory specs for Java:

     "java.exe -Xms1048M -Xmx2048M -jar minecraft_server.jar nogui"

Should be 1024? This is in the text box, the last line of the batch file, immediately before the Optional Steps heading. I've used this page many times and never noticed it before. anyway, thanks for making it. minedthestep

Highly Discourage the use of Hamachi/VPN

Recently quite a few people have been coming into the Minecraft Support IRC with problems with connectivity that were only compounded by the use of Hamachi. 1.9 server download

Why when I download the 1.9 server from minecraft.net it just gives me a bunch of files but the server console isn't there and neither is the eula???

Setting up a server with older versions of java can cause issues with port forwarding

I experienced this myself, even though my port forward was set up the minecraft server wouldn't open the port. I fixed it by updating to the newest version of java. I think there should be added info about this because currently it only states that having an updated version of java is for security reasons.

Recommend Java 8 and Updating the Linux Section

The Linux sections and maybe MacOS sections are outdated. I updated openSuse, Debian and Ubuntu sections. I don't know if the Arch ARM or Gentoo sections are outdated and have no way to test them. But from what I've seen in the other sections they are. I also noticed the Linux sections recommend Java 6 or 7. This doesn't make much sense. Java 7 has had security updated discontinued since 2015. To use Java 7 is extremely insecure and I don't think the official Minecraft wiki should recommend it. I don't have an ARM processor and from what I understand install Gentoo is extremely difficult. So I can't test and update the sections. If anyone has Gentoo or Arch ARM installed can they please update those sections? APersonWhoLikesPasta (talk) 02:49, 22 June 2019 (UTC)

Adding Java Section

Should there be a general purpose Java section to answer possible questions? The section would answer questions like Java 8 or Java 11, OpenJDK vs Oracle JDK, and JRE vs JDK. Do not download Radmin VPN

Radmin is a Trojan Horse that hacker use to acces personel data and download malicious files on your computer please do not in any circumstance download Radmin VPN. Unistall it for the safety of you computer.

After doing some research Reimage is not trustable and be unistall too.

In the sections where it can tell users to enter localhost as an IP it may be useful to add 127.0.0.1 as some users may find this confusing since everything else is numerical instead of a string.

I dun goofed

I accidently opened the server file in notepad, how do I undo this?

I do not think that (Revision as of 00:02, 29 November 2020 by 9superswords) is bringing anything new to this documentation. A better way would have been to add additional dockers as a list with their numbers of pulls.

I did screw up while trying to fix it in (revision 1905827 by Plexus85) but I can not undo this with my user.

Minecraft server lagspikes when issuing any command

Hi!

I've been running a mc server for a year now for me and my friends. It was running perfectly until this week. Now if I issue ANY command a 5-20 sec lagspike occur. I'm using the same plugins as I've been using since the beginning, all of them are lightweight (teleport and home plugins). The server runs just as smoothly as ever when not issuing any commands. (Tested it with view distance, big farms, etc..), I'm 99% sure it is not a hardware/network dependent issue.

Any ideas?

Recent update to Java 16

Minecraft recently updated to Java version 16 (it had previously been on version 8). Because of this, all of the instructions which say to install OpenJDK 8 are out of date. I have updated the sections for Debian and Arch (which doesn't actually have java 16 yet), but the rest of the Linux distros need to be tested and updated. Furthermore, this may have impacts on the Windows and Mac sections (I didn't check, as I'm unfamiliar with both platforms). Finally, that was my first edit, so I'm not sure if I followed the style guide properly; corrections are welcome.

I dug into the code for this and found out what it's for: If you play in a world in singleplayer then move that world to a server, the singleplayer inventory is typically gone. But using this flag, you can specify the player name that you will connect with, and you'll have access to all the original world's items.

It also permanentely copies the items to be in that player's inventory, even after the flag is removed (and online mode is potentially enabled again).

So in other words, it primarily seems like a way of importing singleplayer worlds into a server, and bringing a player's inventory with them by specifying the player who should receive the items for this initial setup.

Contradicting lines in "Java options" section

As of 3. Common instructions 3.1. Java options it reads in the first bullet point '-Xmx4G (two gigabytes)', shall this mean 4GB or 2GB?

Installing Java on CentOS instructions

The "Installing Java" section under "Linux Instructions" is missing a section for CentOS and other RHEL-based distros.

You can use this:
