This is an effort to simplify logic gates so that the newbie redstone dude can understand it a little easier. Any help is appreciated. Ambivalent 19:05, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

I think sandstone top texture would be nicer to use instead of sand. I'll change it if you don't have a problem.

I swear some day I'm going to update that image and make it more relevant again >_< I made it back before the standard diagram convention was adopted, though honestly I don't like the convention anyways (too complicated for newbies). I'd like to get an opinion on some changes. I added in links to a javascript Redstone Simulator for each gate(and the first two diodes), accessed by clicking the image. Changed to only include link in thumbnail description, per request to keep image links intact.

As well, I found the ON/off tables to be a bit of an eye-sore, and tried out a color based table, similar to colors used for redstone in-game. --Cavemaneca 01:34, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

Well, the idea was to mimic the colors used by redstone in-game, as that is more intuitive than other color combinations.
Looking at it now, I find the green to be "ugly" and no more clear on whether the signal is off or on. I'd appreciate more feedback from others however. Red/Green doesn't have a previous correlation with on/off states in Minecraft, but the "lit" red and "dark" red do.Cavemaneca 08:51, 11 November 2012 (UTC)
I don't think any combination of colors alone will be intuitive for everyone, especially since the page never explains which states the colors correspond to. Why not keep the on/off text, but change the background colors, something like this:

Diodes

I have added three diodes (repeater, traditional repeater, and glowstone diode) due to their simplistic nature and how useful they can be to newbies who need to isolate inputs but don't know how. Despite not being a "gate," their output varies with where their input comes from, so I think it's a close enough fit. Skyboy 06:22, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

Also, The images may be difficult to convert to RSSim since there's no glowstone representation. Perhaps there should be. Skyboy 06:25, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

Move to Tutorials?

With the break-up of the Redstone Circuits article a few months ago, we now have two articles on logic gates in the main namespace: this one (BLG) and Redstone Circuits/Logic (RCL). RCL is a much more exhaustive discussion of the subject, but BLG is more accessible to a beginner. We could try to merge the two articles, but that would basically mean deleting BLG, so I propose moving it to Tutorials so that it's accessibility not be lost. —Munin295 · Grid Book and Quill Grid Stone Pickaxe · 09:27, 15 January 2013 (UTC)

Making the gates

You should include how to make the gates. I want to make a NOT Gate, but the article only showed what it does, not how to make one.173.174.3.143 21:49, 24 April 2013 (UTC)

Each gate description has a diagram on the right (diagrams are explained in the introduction) that shows how to make at least one version of the gate (there are sometimes multiple ways to make a type of logic gate). Does that help?

Replace ONLY gate by IMPLIES gate

I think we should replace the current ONLY gate section should be replaced by an IMPLIES gate section. Because an IMPLIES gate is just an inverted ONLY gate but more professional. 80.61.138.116 14:56, 29 July 2015 (UTC)

I think we should dispense with the "ONLY gate" (as there's no such thing) and not call it an "IMPLY gate." What this "ONLY/IMPLY gate" is really describing is a gated buffer with an inverted gate input. A small tweak to the redstone circuit (put a torch on the gate block's side opposite the switch) turns it into a gated buffer with a non-inverted gate input. Totally agree here. ONLY gate is not a real thing. If people REALLY want to keep the subject then there should be a section about how to combine various gates together. E.g. To create an output signal that only changes when you turn a switch off, combine and AND gate with an INVERTER on one of the inputs like this...". It looks like only admins can remove sections, so someone is going to have to get them to do it.174.127.229.91 21:40, 29 May 2016 (UTC)

"Zero-tick delay"

We probably should not refer to glowstone diodes as having a Zero-tick delay to avoid confusion with Zero-tick repeaters, which do have a delay, but an infinite of such delays can fit inside the length of one game-tick, whereas these diodes have no delay, not even an infinitely short one. –Preceding unsigned comment was added by 73.25.110.186 (talk) at 22:08, 20 August 2016 (UTC).
