Rumor-busting

I'm hesitant to mess around with a personal article, so I'll just leave this here for someone more experienced to integrate it in. Miner Key 15:14, 11 November 2011 (UTC)

Pronounciation

How do you pronounce his last name? Is it like the English word "Person" or something more like "Pierce-son?" Or something completely different?

I would say it like Per Son --Haxelnut 06:28, 27 August 2010 (PDT)

It's a bit like the English word "person", but imagine a British accent. You know how final r's are dropped? Implement this on the first syllable. The e, however, sounds like the e in "bed", rather than the usual sound you get in that way. As for the second syllable, it's like an sh sound but the tongue is curled up a bit, like a stereotypical Russian/Hindi accent, or a sound you may hear a bit in Swedish if you're familiar with it. The o is like the sound you get for o's in English, but it's not a diphthong. Imagine saying "oh" but cut short halfway through the syllable. I know, lengthy description, but I'm very knowledgeable in linguistics and that's the best I can do without throwing IPA up. xD If you still didn't get it, check out this audio clip I found on Google. - JWhitt 07:29, 5 September 2010 (CDT)
As I wrote in the page itself, it's "pair-son" or "pear-son", as described by Notch himself. Citation inline in the page. --meioziz 16:47, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

At last!

Finally, a proper page about Notch on this wiki. Can I suggest we delete or archive the current talk page, as it is now all out of date and irrelevant? --DannyF1966 14:38, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

why dont we have a topic on the "ghoststory" of Notchs brother, Herobrine, its true notch has a bro. So why isnt this included???

For the sake of the community and how they like jokes, would it be feasible/practical to have a sub-page of Notch for the joke-related info? --JonTheMon 15:24, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
I think, this time, maybe not. after the mass-spam, it seems unlikely. however, you can archive a version in your Userspace. I have only archived Notch Time, as the rest seemed like rubbish. --Kizzycocoa 15:26, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
I would like to vote for Notch time staying (or on a separate page), as that is still useful (and not fake) information about dates promised by Notch, and the date it actually occurred. The VDC keeps the Valve time article and they don't like nonsense pages, so I think it is still appropriate for the wiki. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 15:38, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
I agree. I find it funny, but still semi-serious.--Kizzycocoa 16:02, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

Xvox's edits

Should we allow jokes on the Notch page? I'm sure this is a violation of Wiki Rule #7 AND #19. Drenay 14:50, 20 February 2011 (UTC)

No. If you want to make childish jokes, do it in your namespace. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 01:52, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
We used to have this page full of jokes and it was horrible. It took me about an hour or two to rewrite the entire page and I will not let that effort go to waste.--Quatroking - MCWiki Administrator 14:10, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
Well, dear Quatroking, just because YOU edited a page doesn't make it better. You should think about the wiki's benefits, and not how hard YOU worked to do something. That was a great section that everyone enjoyed besides you and a small minority. You should have at least gave us the option to VOTE whether or not we want it to be removed. The least you can do now is to give us a special page for little jokes and giggles. Yes. I KNOW this is the Minepedia and not the Mine-jokebook, but having that section removed just because YOU thought it's useless only proves that YOU are an DOUCHE. TheYeIIowDucK 17:16, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
While I agree that me editing the page does not grant the page godmode, the page was rewritten because it barely covered anything about Notch at all, more than 90% of the page was fiction. All I was saying is that I don't want to turn the page back into a horrible page full of crappy jokes and whatnot, covering nothing about Notch himself at all. This wiki is meant to document Minecraft, including Mojang and its creator, not as a jokebook like you said yourself. If you want fiction so bad head off to your own userpage. We are not a work of fiction, and there's no need to yell at me for that.--Quatroking - MCWiki Administrator 19:36, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
I must concur in part to the above. In the edit field, you are explicitly told "If you do not want your writing to be edited mercilessly or redistributed by others, do not submit it".
As for jokes, I  Semi-Agree to having jokes (if it is up for debate). However, only under some conditions. For example, any "chuck norris" facts, should go in like, a separate article. Perhaps Notch/Jokes. As for smaller jokes, such as noting Notch Time, stating him as self-proclaimed god, or other minor touches should be allowed, as long as they are small and minor and do not overrule the wiki page's main purpose.
But there cannot be an article plastered with stupid jokes. That cannot happen again.--Kizzycocoa 17:38, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
I think that should be kept to the userspace, linked to only if it's REALLY good (ie. Notch Time). On this case specifically, Xvox's edits are just vandalism. They detract from the article. The only humor that should be kept on mainspace in general are quotes from the person themselves.
Also, TheYeIIowDucK, personal attacks don't help you out here. Just sayin'. --Gnu32 17:45, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
I just want to make clear, my previous edit only supported a small part of his comment, which has happened in the past, however that has been discussed to death. The insults, however are unacceptable, and such behaviour needs to stop now, before bans start being handed out.--Kizzycocoa 17:56, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Game not in the list?

I found a game on Steam that Notch helped make and noticed there is no mention of it on his page. http://store.steampowered.com/app/111800/ Throex TALK|CONT 19:17, 11 March 2012 (UTC)

Notch didn't have anything to do with that game though? –ultradude25 (T|C) at 19:26, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
Yes he did, you can look at the trailer to the game and it says that Alexey and Markus helped each other make this game. Then before "BTM" flashes for the first time you see a creeper face and everything. Notch helped mae this game and release it last year in August. Throex TALK|CONT 19:31, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
I have actually just bought it and played it. Its a nice puzzle game that includes parts of minecraft. You collect certain types of blocks and then at times you replace those blocks in order to get out. Very good game and its only $1.69 in the steam store today. Throex TALK|CONT 19:50, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
From what I've seen, Notch is featured as a character in the game's world, but he never actually did any work on the game. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 19:56, 11 March 2012 (UTC)

After playing it, it has a mincraft feel to it. The puzzle system where you can rebuild makes me feel like minecraft. I think maybe he just had inspiration towards helping this Alexey guy out. He is a huge puzzle game designer. Throex TALK|CONT 20:00, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
The game was not developed by Notch or Alexey Pajitnov! It was INSPIRED by the games the two are known for developing(Minecraft and Tetris, respectively) The game was developed by William David and Guillaume Martin(Swing Swing Submarine is the indie game company they run) --67.170.243.224 03:57, 27 March 2012 (UTC)

Are You Guys Serious?

I honestly would like a joke page as there was before, entitled "Notch." After all, anyone researching Markus would know to search his real name instead of his username! Can't we just put a disclaimer with a link to this page? Notch has become a part of Minecraft's community lore as a god, in a way similar to the memetic Herobrine. I don't see why we can't just have a seperate page for it. 24.185.145.65 01:20, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

Because Notch and Markus Persson are the same person. Even when this page was titled "Notch", it wasn't a joke page; when it was renamed the content was not changed substantially. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 01:49, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
It was a joke page and the talk for it was archived under a special, rather opinionated, name. About a year and a half after Quatroking made it serious is when Kizzycocoa renamed it. It was way before my time here, but looking at the page, it would be pretty neat if we have that old version on the "Notch" page with an {{about}} directing the user to this page, explaining that the Notch article is "Chuck Norris" themed while the real name article is serious. I doubt you, or any other admin, would accept the return of that, but I see this subject as a very low profile version of Herobrine, where in the past, herospam was reduced significantly by the creation of the article. No one's really clamoring for "Notchspam", but if the community likes it, we could maintain a joke page. --Kanegasi C 21:27, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
I could only support (and only in the most tenuous sense of the word) such a joke page as a subpage in someone's userspace, like the Herobrine page used to be. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 22:16, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
