"Steve" was the name of one variant of the now unused human mobs. They were originally in-game as a test during the Indev phase. At that point, it had been stated that the player avatar would look like Steve in the future, albeit with a miner hat and a different skin.
Steve was made by "Dock", Minecraft's past artist, as were the similar looking Rana, Black Steve and Beast Boy. All four of them were scrapped when Dock left the development team. The player model remains the same as the now removed Human NPC.
Appearance
Steve, like The Player, has brown hair. He has rectangular brown eyes, and also brown eyebrows. He has a blue shirt and a brown belt. He has brown gloves, and brown pants with blue shoes.
Trivia

- The current Minecraft player model appears in Super Meat Boy as a playable character called Steve. Notch has stated that his official name is "Steve?", as he does not want to specify anything about him (or her).[1]
- Steve, as well as all the other mobs made by Dock, have no animation because of inability of MD3 loader. They just glide around in the same pose. However, the MD3 model itself contains an animation of it walking.
- Steve can be confused with the Player.
