Good luck

Good luck from France ! Oh and, btw, I copied a bit the style of your page, sorry. ^^ Octocat 22:59, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

Good luck with your translations as well! Don't worry about the style, it's more of a general template, so no one has (or should claim) to own anything. :P --Miner Key 06:19, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

Translations

Please don't recommend using online translators, even for reference. You need to recruit native speakers, or people otherwise fluent. Also, please advertise your project on the Spanish language forums. Thanks! -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 23:33, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

Alright, the guidelines have been altered accordingly, and I'll soon be posting on the .esp forums. Thanks for the suggestion, I never knew there was a Spanish Minecraft forum until now! --Miner Key 06:17, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

Nombres / Names

Estaba pensando que algunos nombres están mal traducidos (¿por Google?).
Por ejemplo, en lugar de "polainas" (leggings), se podría usar "perneras". En lugar de "mena" (ore), se podría usar "mineral de".
Por cierto, técnicamente, el "hierro" (iron) de Minecraft es "acero".

I just noticed that some names are poorly translated (by Google?).
For example, instead of "polainas" (leggings), we could use "perneras". Instead of "mena" (ore), we could use "mineral de".
By the way, the name "hierro" (iron) is technically "acero".
Drzego 17:48, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Actually, that was my doing - while I did not use Google, I used my textbooks and a couple of dictionaries (apparently with the same result :P). The ores actually did used to be "mineral de", but I changed the names upon seeing mena in the Diamante article. I tend to take the usage of terms of fully fluent speakers over mine (5 - 6 years of study in school), but it turns out there are regional differences as well, especially when it comes to Castilian Spanish vs. other hispanic dialects. I will definitely bring this up on the forums, where a large amount of the contributor base originates from - feel free to join up and add your input. -- Miner Key 17:18, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

Hello Miner Key, thanks for your response.
I've been investigating a bit about that weird word, "mena". We here in Spain do not use it at all (some old men that used to work as miners still use it, though).
That word refears to an amount of some concrete minerals, acero (iron) or oro (gold) are some of them, but diamante (diamond) is definetly NOT included in the meaning of what mena has been or is (maybe in the future... :P).
I also wanted to comment that words:

  • "Pastel" (cake, should be "tarta", a pastel is less consistent than a tarta.)
  • "Guijarro" (Cobblestone, should be something as "empedrado", but it's not exactly a good word for it. Maybe we could leave it as Cobblestone?)
  • "Estante" (Bookshelf, that one should definetly be librería.)
  • "Mesa de trabajo" (The mighty workbench, should be "banco de trabajo", as it's not a table...)
  • "POLAINAS" (Polainas are more likely long boots, not leggings...)

Drzego 18:39, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

"Estante" is fine for the bookshelf IMO. I'm not sure if me being Chilean has something to do with that (Chilean Spanish is very "informal", if that's the right word to describe it), but I'm sure Estante is the right word. "Libreria" is fine too though, and it also explicitly says it holds books (libros) :) The only word I could think of for the Leggings is Pantalones, but that means Pants. :/ Cobblestone could be simply changed to "Rocas" and Smooth Stone to "Piedra lisa". --Technoguyx 23:05, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

Also, right now "The Nether" is translated to "El Infierno", literally meaning hell. After a quick Wikitionary search I found out Nether could be translated to "Subterraneo". Should it be changed to that? --Technoguyx 23:09, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

Hello Technoguyx. I loved all the aportation you just did. "Rocas" is a wonderful word for Cobblestone, but Smooth Stone should remain as "Piedra".
For the word leggings, the best translation in this case (it's a piece of armour) is "musleras" or "perneras".
But, "estante" is not a good translation for bookshelf. As a "librería" only contains books (it's the case in Minecraft), a "estante" can contain other items such as small figueres, etc.

What did really happen?

Hello there, I was translating this page when I found this:
Busting iron ore would cause 1 - 3 iron blocks to drop.
I understant what is written there, but not what it really means. When you blew up ore it popped out 1-3 Iron blocks?
I'm not sure, that's why I won't touch it until I get my question answered. Thanks for your time!
Drzego 17:44, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

The "would" is the past tense of "will", so it'd be something like "Destruir el mineral de hierro causaba que cayeran 1-3 bloques de hierro." --Technoguyx 20:11, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

Yes, I understand what it means, but not what happened in that Minecraft version, we should find someone that knows it. I don't want to write that Iron blocks popped out from the ore directly if it's not true (I mean, Iron blocks are serious stuff).
First contrast your information, then write!
Drzego 21:33, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

Good point, let's just ask in the forums I guess. --Technoguyx 21:49, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

Personal achievments.

There's a user who puts his name at the ending of some pages were he's done something (for example, adding a ",") and takes all the credit for that page.
We should not put our name anywhere in the page, it's a free wiki, where everyone edits. If someone is so interested to see who started the page, look at the history of the page.
If this happens again, I'll be forced to tell an admin to ban that user.

El código del proyecto

Para aquellos que os decidáis a traducir artículos, querías pediros porfavor, que pongáis el código de {{project|Spanish translation}} en la primera línea del código, como en éste artículo, más que nada, por cuestiones de estética y recomendación de un Administrador de Curse.

Gracias. --Senak (離す) 20:37, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

Mind adding Minecraft Wiki/es somewhere?

I was trolling through Orphaned Pages and noted that Minecraft Wiki/es was sitting there somewhat lonesome for attention. I figure this folks in this project would know where to properly link it on the project page, rather then to leave it solely linked here in the Talk page. I don't feel comfortable altering a project page that I am not involved in, so would someone please include the Minecraft Wiki/es within your fine project page then? -Wulfenbach (not on fire for once) 11:40, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

Looks outdated (it says last version is 1.2) but I figure it should go somewhere. I'd wait for Drzego's response. --Technoguyx 17:39, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

Hello there, It's me, Drzego! I forgot my password and I'm getting an error message when I try to login with my account... When I've solved it, I'll start again.
@Wulfenbach You say the project is somewhat lonesome. Well, I can't discuss that, but we can do much more if we want to. Am I wrong, people?
@Technoguyx Yes, it is outdated, I'll start with that this evening if everything goes as I intend to!
Drzego2 06:40, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

So, I'm back! Today I'll check what's missing from the latest update. Notice that I'll use Spanish from Spain.
The Reloj page will have to wait until tomorrow.
Happy to be back: Drzego 14:04, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

For the updates.

We're getting new block as the time goes, so the old way of classifying objects to translate IS NOT GOING TO WORK. It's madness, I've tried to see if some blocks were not in the list, I found one or two, but it took me about 40 minutes to read and compare everything.
This is what we need:

  • Classify in groups. The ABC system is getting too outdated, groups of "natural", "plants", "food", etc. is the best way to keep them well organised and there would be almost no problem.
  • Classify in alphabetical order. Some of you may say: "It's already done!" My answer is NO. I've found some words that weren't correctly translated. If something is translated, the first letter may change, so we need to move it. This will be easyer with the "grouping" system if we put them in alphabetical order.
  • Choose 1 word for each block/item. I've seen the same word written in 3 ways (piedrarroja, piedra-roja & piedra roja), we can't do that. I'll make a list with the most appropiate name for each thing and post it as a reply to this message this weekend.

That's it crafters, next up: BIG CHANGES. Leave your opinion down below if you please.
Drzego 14:48, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

I agree with the group idea. Maybe classify in blocks, items, mobs and others, then make subcategories for those. Or maybe just use the already available categories? --Technoguyx 17:38, 19 March 2011 (UTC)
The group idea is very simple. Instead of a-c, d-n & o-z categories, use "solid block", "mob", item" and so on categories.
I could do it myself, but I'm having a lot of exams now. I planned to translate the reloj page, but I had no time to do it. And I won't translate anything until I'm done with it...
PD: Don't edit the reloj page or remove it from the "pages being translated" section, please. I translate pages with a notepad and the I copy it to the browser, If I don't do it this way, my internet connection could crash and the I would rage quit...
Drzego 19:46, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
Seconding the agreement. I will look into using a category system like the English wiki does and I'll see if I can have it up in a few days.

Thanks and good luck

Thank you so much to create this Translate Project. The Spanish is a big language, and a translation to Spanish of Minepedia, it's great!

I'm from Spain, and I love Minecraft. I'll try to colaborate in this project. Good luck and thanks!! Kingpowl 18:04, 26 March 2011 (UTC)

Organization

Hello everyone once again. I've found a coupple of minutes to write this down here:
I've been working on a data base about the Minecraft stuff, including blocks, tools, etc.
Once it's up to date I'll start re-doing the articles section, but this is going to take a while, at least 1 week to get the data base ready and start re-doing it on a notepad.
That's why I'll have to do it quick, as while I'm re-doing it, Notch shouldn't do yet another update... :S
Next week I'm going on vacation and I'll be far away from my data base... It'll have to be in May!

P.D.: Next week the beta 1.5 comes out, we should put the content of that update to debate, as the rails have different names.

Resolve the red links

If you guys resolve the red links on Minecraft Wiki/es you have enough pages translated to get your subdomain. I just won't do it with a main page with that many red links. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 21:06, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

New here

Hello everyone. Well, I'm new here and I was wondering if I could be of any help with the editing of the translation project; the trouble is I'm actually a bit lost here and dunno how to edit a new page, let's say, for example, a page for the skeleton...

Well about editing, why are all titles "English/es"? Should they be changed? Also, some links in the mobs pages redirect to the english versions of the mobs. Guess I'll start changing some of them. Well, anyways, I'll gladly be of help!--Sadikusama 02:45, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

The page names will all be changed once they are exported to the Spanish subdomain. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 23:38, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

Subdomain and Spanish Administrators

I am ready to request the Spanish language subdomain be created. The one thing I need you to do before I do that is determine who in the Spanish community is going to act as administrators. One Bureaucrat, and at least 2 admins. It will be up to this team to keep on top of the continuing translation of pages, as well as the ongoing updates and maintenance of the Spanish site.

Please have this discussion here on this page, and in English, so that the rest of the community can also follow it. Thanks for all your hard work to date! -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 23:38, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

Just a question...

Just a simple question: Why I/you/he/she/we/they can't translate templates?

Here's a direct link to why: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/User_talk:Miner_Key#Templates
