This article is about the Overworld structure. For Nether structure, see Huge fungus. For the block, see Mushroom Block. For other uses, see Mushroom (disambiguation).

Huge mushrooms are tree-like features that consist of mushroom blocks. They can be found naturally in swamp[BE only], Flower Forest[BE only], dark forest, and mushroom fields biomes, or grown from a small mushroom by applying bone meal on it - small mushrooms do not turn into huge mushrooms naturally.

Generation[]

Huge mushrooms naturally generate in swamp[BE only], Flower Forest[BE only], dark forest, and mushroom fields biomes.

Growth[]

Huge mushrooms have a 40% chance to be grown by applying bone meal to a small red or brown mushroom that is planted on dirt, coarse dirt, grass blocks, rooted dirt or moss blocks with a sky and block light level of 12 or less, or on podzol, mycelium or nylium at any light level. The volume the huge mushroom would generate in must be free of solid blocks, and a minimum of 5 blocks above the mushroom, although 7 blocks allows most to spawn. 13 blocks are required for all huge mushrooms to generate. Extra tall huge mushrooms have a ~5% chance of growing.

A huge mushroom does not grow above the height limit.

Any small mushroom placed does not grow into a huge mushroom naturally; bone meal must be applied.

Construction[]

Main article: /Structure

A huge mushroom's height is normally between 5 and 7 blocks inclusive, but have a 112 chance to generate twice as high (minus 1 block), meaning they can be 9, 11, or 13 blocks tall.[1]

Huge Brown Mushroom

A huge brown mushroom

Huge Red Mushroom

A huge red mushroom

To grow, the block under the huge mushroom's stem must be dirt, podzol, or mycelium. Light level does not matter if placed on podzol or mycelium, but if placed on dirt, coarse dirt or grass blocks both skylight and blocklight must be 12 or less. Each type of mushroom also has its own space requirements, which are described below.

Huge brown mushrooms[]

Huge brown mushrooms consist of a single stalk in the center, with a 7×7 canopy of brown mushroom blocks at the top with the corners missing.

For the mushroom to grow, the lowest four blocks of the stem (i.e. the three blocks above the small mushroom being grown) must be air or leaves, and a 7×7×(height−3) region above must similarly be clear of anything except air or leaves. Due to the space requirement matching the size of the canopy at the top, it is possible for a huge brown mushroom to grow with its canopy directly touching a mushroom next to it.

Huge red mushrooms[]

Huge red mushrooms, like their brown counterparts, have a single stalk in the center, but a different canopy, composed of five 3×3 slabs of red mushroom blocks arranged above and around the stalk, forming a 'dome'. Unlike brown mushrooms, red mushrooms only check the blocks directly above the small mushroom, and do not require the rest of the dome to be clear of other blocks. Blocks that mobs can't suffocate in, such as slabs, end portal frame and end portal, are replaced; full blocks remain unchanged.

History[]

June 14, 2011Notch showed a picture of a Beta 1.7 change-list. Although it was completely blurred out and was at first thought of as a joke, Notch later stated that one of the pictures with the new lighting system and the change list had a secret in them.
One place where people discussed it was on the Minecraft Forums, where it was discovered that the tabs at the top of the change list, which were partly covered, could be decoded based on the one pixel tall pattern available in the image.[2]
After a user named "tmcaffeine" successfully decoded the image, the tabs read: ExperienceOrb.java, changelist.txt, Level.java, Tile.java, HugeMushroomTile.jav(a?), HugeMushroomFeature.(java?), RandomLevelSource(cut).[3]
This led people to believe that huge mushrooms would be added, and indeed, later on Notch revealed a screenshot on Google+ in which two huge mushrooms could be seen as well as a village.

Tropical fish is a food item that cannot be cooked.

Obtaining
Fishing
Tropical fish can be obtained from fishing. The wait time of one being caught is decreased with the Lure enchantment and the chance of one being caught is slightly decreased with the Luck of the Sea enchantment (named as such because it increases treasure, not fish).

Tropical fish cannot be caught when fishing in jungle biome and variants.bedrock
<!--1-6 exp-->

Mob drops
Guardians and elder guardians have a 2.5% chance of dropping a random fish upon death. This has a 2% chance of being tropical fish. The chance of getting the fish drop can be increased by 1% per level of Looting, but the type of fish is not affected.

Tropical fish always drop 1 tropical fish in its item form when killed. This drop is not affected by Looting.

Usage
Food
Tropical fish restores 1 hunger and 0.2 saturation.

Trading
Expert-level fisherman villagers have a 1 chance to buy a single tropical fish for one emerald.bedrock

Expert-level fisherman villagers always offer to buy 6 tropical fish for an emerald.java

Wolves
Bedrock, tropical fish can be used to feed wolves, healing them by . However, unlike other wolf food, tropical fish cannot be used to breed or speed up the growth of baby wolves. Tropical fish can be fed only to a wolf that is not at full health.

Smithing templates are items used in smithing tables to alter tools and armor. They are consumed when used, but can be duplicated using an existing template, its material and diamonds.

The sixteen armor trim smithing templates are found in a variety of structures, and are used to apply various decorative trims (dependent on the variant) to armor using certain minerals for different colors.

Netherite upgrade smithing templates are required to upgrade diamond equipment with a netherite ingot. They are only found in bastion remnants, but are guaranteed only in treasure rooms.

Obtaining
Smithing templates can be found in various structures and can be duplicated by using seven diamonds and a block based on what the template is.

bedrock, spire, tide, and dune armor trims can be duplicated with more blocks than java. Armor trim smithing templates are used to customize an armor piece's appearance by using a smithing template, an armor piece, and an ingot or crystal (emerald, redstone dust, lapis lazuli, amethyst shard, nether quartz, netherite ingot, diamond, gold ingot, iron ingot, or copper ingot). Including all dyed leather armor colors and regular armor, there are ≈3.679x109 different possible armor pieces<!--5713438 leather colors, plus the 4 other armor materials = 5713442. 5713442 * 161 (the 160 trim combos (16 trims, 10 materials) + untrimmed) = 919864162. 919864162 * 4 (helmet, chestplate, leggings, boots) = 3679456648 ≈ 3.679x10^9-->, and 7.16x1035 <!--919864162 + 1 (no armor in that slot) = 919864163. 919864163^4 = 715969952015045562662444917041515536 ≈ 7.16x10^35 total possible armor combinations-->total possible armor combinations excluding enchantments and the player not wearing armor.

Already trimmed armor can be trimmed again by applying another template on it; the old trim pattern is overwritten in the process. Therefore, one piece of armor cannot possess multiple trims at the same time.

Most armor trims cover a small portion of the armor piece's surface with the trim material, except for the silence armor trim, which allows the trim material to cover a majority of the armor piece's surface.

All of the trims are purely decorative, and don't impact gameplay or strength(without the use of mods or plugins) of the armor they are applied to in any way. Piglins do not pick up any gold-trimmed armor pieces, and they are not pacified by players wearing even a full set of gold-trimmed armor (unless, of course, the armor pieces in question are themselves golden), and netherite-trimmed armor pieces can still be burned by fire.

* Smithing templates were named "Smithing Blueprints" in the prototype but was changed because the word "blueprint" sounded modern and technical.
* When Mojang developer Gnembon was working on armor trims, he accidentally messed up their rendering, making them jet through the player's body in a weird fashion, similar to what appears in Salvador Dalí's paintings where a hand might poke through a forehead.
* On seagrass that doesn't have water above.
* On a dark oak sapling that is not in a group of four.
* On a mushroom that is not on a block that allows it to grow into a huge mushroom.
* On a sea pickle that is already in a group of four and has no valid locations to expand to.
* On a bamboo (not bamboo shoot) that is blocked in the way.
* On a sea pickle that is not on a coral block.
* On a fungus that is not on its respective nylium.
* Any plants that can't grow due to being block by the build limit.

Creating new plants
If bone meal is used on a grass block; tall grass, grass, flowers, and pink petals form on the targeted block and on random adjacent grass blocks in an 15×5×15/7×5×7 area centered on the targeted block. The flowers/pink petals that appear depend on the biome, meaning that in order to obtain specific flowers, the player must travel to biomes where the flowers are found naturally. See Flower for more information.

Using bone meal on a 2-block flower (rose bushes, sunflowers, lilacs or peonies) will cause one of the same type of flower to drop, without breaking the original. This is the only way to reproduce these flowers, since they cannot generate from using bone meal on grass blocks.

Using bone meal on a non-transparent block that is underwater generates seagrass on that block and surrounding blocks. Sometimes, if in a warm ocean biome, coral and coral fans may have a chance to generate as well, and in Bedrock Edition, coral (not coral fan) can be generated in any biome. In order for this to work, there must be 2 water blocks above the block the bone meal is being used on, and the lower one must be non-flowing water.

Using bone meal on a sea pickle on a coral block creates sea pickles. This generates sea pickles up to 3 blocks (of coral) away, so a 7+ × 7+ block (49+ blocks) of coral may be necessary, to return the most sea pickles per given bone meal attempt (more attempts grows them more numerously, exactly - including the range of it growing, like grass with heights on grass blocks - as coral and coral fans, though those others being non-solid blocks).

Using bone meal on netherrack adjacent to nylium converts the netherrack into nylium of the same type. If both crimson and warped nylium are adjacent to the netherrack that was applied with bone meal, there is a 50% chance that either type of nylium is created.

Using bone meal on nylium causes the corresponding roots and both types of fungi to appear on the nylium block and other nylium nearby, with the type of fungi matching the type of nylium being more common. In addition, using bone meal on the side of warped nylium creates nether sprouts and twisting vines.

Farmer villagers
Villagers with the farmer profession can collect bone meal from a full composter, with which they can make their crops grow faster.

Trivia
* Bone meal can be used on the sides or bottom of a grass block, as well as on a grass block with plants already on top of it.
* Regardless of if it succeeds in fertilizing, bone meal makes green sparkles. However, like smoke from a torch, the sparkles appear only if the player has particles set All or Decreased.
* In real life, bone meal is used as a fertilizer to provide nitrogen and phosphorus to plants.

A written book is an item created after a book and quill is signed.

Obtaining
Signing a book and quill
Written books can be obtained by signing a book and quill. After it has been signed, it cannot be edited again. The label does not say "Written Book", but whatever the player titles it. The title appears on the top line of the label, and "by <player>" (the player's username) on the bottom. bedrock, this is customizable without commands.

Usage
Written books can be opened by right-clicking (or holding down on the screen bedrock), and display a GUI allowing the player to read it or turn the page.

The contents of a book are an extra set of data attached to the item. This means that when a book is destroyed, its contents are lost with it.

Lecterns
One can place a written book on an empty lectern.

The lectern then emits a redstone signal depending on the displayed page in the book. On the last page, the lectern emits a signal strength of 15.

Chiseled bookshelf
the chiseled bookshelf while having a written book in the main hand will put the book inside the chiseled bookshelf.

Trading
Expert-level librarian villagers have a 1 (50%) chance to sell a clock for 5 emeralds.java

Usage
The clock dial consists of two halves, a day side and a night side. The dial spins clockwise slowly to indicate the time of day, corresponding to the sun or moon's actual position in the sky. The player is able to sleep a few seconds after the clock shows exactly dusk.

The dial always shows the current in-game time when in the Overworld, regardless of where it appears. This includes a player's hand, an inventory slot, a crafting grid, an item frame, or even as a dropped item. For a clock to be mounted on a wall, an item frame is required.

Because there is no day/night cycle in the Nether or the End, clocks do not work properly in these dimensions. Instead, the dial rotates rapidly and randomly JE or clockwise BE, making them useless.

Piglins
Piglin are attracted to clocks and run toward any clock on the ground, and inspect it for 6 to 8 seconds before putting it in their inventory.

Trivia
* java, a clock can be viewed under the item statistics page as long as one obtained a clock at some point.
* java, the default resource pack for the clock contains 64 individual frames, each frame lasting about 18.75 seconds in real time (375 ticks) (1350 seconds (22 minutes, 30 seconds) in Minecraft time).
* When the time of day changes suddenly, such as after sleeping or when time is used, the clock dial spins rapidly to catch up.
* Although clocks do not function in the Nether or the End, the actual daylight cycle does continue.

The camera is an entity that is capable of capturing and storing images. edu, it works together with the portfolio item to create collections of photos.

Obtaining
The camera can be obtained in the Creative inventory in Minecraft Education. It can be obtained either by NBT editors, inventory editors, or glitches in Bedrock Edition.

To get the block form of the camera in Bedrock Edition using an NBT editor, you need to set the item name of the block in the inventory slot (<code>name:</code> ) to <code>item.camera</code>, then you need to add a compound tag called <code>Block</code> and inside of that put the int tag <code>version: 18040335</code> and the text tag <code>name: minecraft:camera</code> into the block compound tag. For the usable "spawn egg" form of the camera, you only need to set the item name of the block in the inventory slot (<code>name:</code> ) to <code>camera</code>; you do not need to add the block compound for this form of the camera.

Usage
Using a camera from the inventory captures a first-person screenshot. It can also be placed, creating a camera entity that can track the user, and take pictures from the camera's perspective. Photos that are taken using the camera appear in the portfolio.

Close-up snapshots of an item on the ground can be taken by holding the Shift key while right-clicking.

Photos that are taken with the camera block are stored in <code>%localappdata%\Packages\MinecraftUWP_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\screenshots</code>.

Future
At the Minecraft Pocket Edition panel at 2012, as well as one of Jbernhardsson's livestreams, it was stated that future plans include trying to have a proper use for cameras, perhaps an easier way to take screenshots and share them with others. In the BlockTalk Q&A, the camera was briefly mentioned as part of a broader "sharing" theme planned for be in the future.
It later got implemented into ee, using the camera to make screenshots and share them in a special book.

Issues
Issue list

Trivia
* A camera prevents a Book and Quill from working. Attempting to craft it or obtain it by commands gives a regular book instead, due to non-implementation of photo attaching to written books.
* The camera can take a screenshot, which appears a bit smaller with a thick paper outline having cuts on its edges, making it look like an old photograph.
* This feature is hidden from the Creative inventory and from the /give command item menu.

Kelp is an underwater plant that generates in most oceans.

Obtaining
Natural generation
Kelp naturally generates in any ocean biomes (except in frozen, deep frozen and warm), near and around seagrass. Each chunk has 1 chance to generate a vegetation of kelp.

Breaking
Kelp can be mined instantly with any tool or with the player's fist. Removing water from the kelp block destroys the kelp. Breaking one part of a kelp stalk destroys all kelp blocks above it. Each block drops a kelp item.

Trading
Kelp can be bought from wandering traders for 3 emeralds.

Usage
Kelp can be placed underwater by hand, or anywhere by the use of commands such as setblock. Placing it by hand gives it a random age value between 0 and 24. Kelp can be placed only in water source blocks or downward-flowing water, not horizontally flowing water.

When placed in downward-flowing water, the flowing water transforms into a water source block, which is useful for faster bubble column elevator creation.

Any building block can be placed on top of a kelp plant, which is useful for building structures over a deep ocean without needing to build from the ocean floor (see also lily pad).

Cooking ingredient
Composting
Placing kelp into a composter has a 30% chance of raising the compost level by 1.

Growth mechanics
Kelp can be planted on a broad variety of blocks. It grows underwater if it has either a source block of water or, Java, flowing water above it. Neither players nor dispensers can remove the water source block that kelp grows in without breaking the kelp first.

Kelp does not require any light level to grow. Kelp also grows without having sky access. Bone meal can be used to grow kelp by 1 block on each use.

Kelp, when planted, is generated with a randomly chosen age value, which can be checked when pressing <kbd>F3</kbd>java. The age value of a newly planted kelp plant varies randomly from 0 to 24. Each time the kelp grows in height by one block, the newly generated top of the kelp plant increases its age by 1. When the top block of the kelp plant reaches an age of 25, it stops growing. This means that kelp can naturally grow to a height between 2 (if the first kelp plant had an age of 24) and 26 blocks (if the first kelp plant had an age of 0).

When a kelp plant block is broken, the age of the kelp plant block underneath is randomized to a value from 0 to 24 and the kelp continues growing until it reaches age 25. It is possible to use this mechanic to cultivate a kelp plant to increase its growth height beyond its natural maximum height of 26 blocks. This can be done by breaking the top-most block of the kelp plant each time it reaches age 25. A kelp plant cultivated by a player in this way repeatedly grows until it reaches the water surface.

Each time it receives a random tick, kelp has a 14% chance of growing.

If shears are used on the topmost block of kelp, that block automatically sets its age value to 25 and stop growing.JE

Farming
Tutorials/Kelp farming
Kelp farming is similar to farming sugar cane, although kelp must be placed underwater. Automation of harvest is easier because items float up in water.

Trivia
* In real life, kelp is not considered a plant. It is classified by scientists as a brown algae.
** Kelp in real life absorbs nutrients directly from the water, instead of through its root-like structure, holdfast, which merely attaches it to the seabed. This is in accordance with kelp being able to grow on almost any solid block in Minecraft.

Huge mushrooms are added.

Trivia[]

 • All huge mushrooms have exactly 45 blocks besides the stalk, so an average of 13.5 mushrooms can be obtained from each huge mushroom's cap.
 • Red mushrooms are rarer than brown mushrooms, but this is not the case for huge mushrooms.
