Java Edition hardware performance/nav
Instructions
Software requirements
- Latest graphics drivers
- AMD users: Use the AMD Driver Autodetect utility to automatically find your driver. Alternatively, use AMD's GPU support webpage to find the appropriate driver.
- Intel users: Use the Intel Driver Update Utility to automatically find your driver. Alternatively, use Intel's Download Center to find the appropriate driver.
- Nvidia users: Use Nvidia's Smart Scan utility (Java required) to automatically find your driver. Alternatively, use Nvidia's Download drivers webpage to find the appropriate driver.
- Java
- Using the most up-to-date version of Java is recommended (1.8 Update 20 as of August 21, 2014), (1.7 Update 67 as of July 29, 2014)
- 64-bit OS users: It is highly recommended to install a 64-bit version of Java.
- The launcher will prefer to use Java 64-bit even if Java 32-bit is installed.
- Minecraft launcher or newer
- Launcher will update itself automatically each start-up if an internet connection is available (You may need to open your launcher twice for the new versions to take effect.)
- To update the launcher manually, download it here
- Entries which use third-party launchers, such as Magic Launcher, will be removed!
- Minecraft or newer. (Snapshots and pre-releases when applicable).
- Entries for previous versions will be removed! Update accordingly.
Conditions for testing
Read before continuing forward! |
DO NOT USE MODS. This includes OptiFine and FpsPlus, and Sonic Ether's Unbelievable Shaders),
Follow the template in its entirety when creating your entry. The less we correct, the easier it is on us! Recommended for best frame rate accuracy:
Doing these steps provides better results for owners of similar or same hardware to compare against. |
To contribute to this list, you must use the following options/settings in both the Minecraft Launcher and in Minecraft itself.

Testing Method
- Create New World
- World Name: "Hardware Performance Test" (Without quotes)
- Game Mode: Survival, Creative if you don't want hostile mobs to bother you (Please don't use commands or fly if you choose Creative).
- More World Options
- Seed for the World Generator: "Hardware Performance Test" (Without quotes)
- Generate Structures: ON
- World Type: Default
- Allow Cheats: OFF
- Bonus Chest: OFF
- Once in the Test world...
- Press F3 to display the debug screen.
- Go to and stand at coordinates XYZ: 276.5xx / 82.00000 / 180.5xx. (Displayed on the seventh line from the top)
- Looks in all directions to load all visible chunks until the chunk updates value drops to zero or a low, consistent value.
- To gather FPS results:
- Walk around in a small circle (about 10-15 blocks in all directions - counting from the center of a circle), while looking ahead.
- Do Not look straight up or down while obtaining the frame rate. Looking both upwards and downwards causes objects that are out of view, mainly objects on the horizontal plane, not to be rendered which increases FPS. This skews the results.
- Get the minimum and maximum frame rates for the default window size (854×480), maximized to fill screen (your native screen resolution), and in fullscreen. To change to fullscreen, press F11 (OS X FN + F11).
- (Optional, but recommended:) Use Fraps benchmarking feature to collect frame rate results. (Using the debug screen lowers in-game FPS, therefore making results less accurate.)
- Capture frame rate to the tens place for large numbers (FPS results such as 200-100 are inaccurate whereas 250-150 are a more accurate representation.)
- Walk around in a small circle (about 10-15 blocks in all directions - counting from the center of a circle), while looking ahead.
