Flowers are naturally occurring plants that come in a variety of shapes and colors.

Obtaining

See also: Flower farming

Flowers can be instantly broken with any item (or no item). Flowers will also be broken if water runs over its location.

Natural generation

Flowers naturally generate on dirt and grass blocks. Even in a biome covered with snow, flowers will generate naturally on dirt blocks with grass, despite the adjoining dirt blocks being covered with snow.

Drops

Iron golems drop 0 to 2 poppies upon death.

Bone meal

When bone meal is applied to a grass block, flowers have a chance of spawning instead of tall grass on the targeted block and adjacent grass blocks up to 8 blocks away. The spawned flower depends on the biome (see below).

When bone meal is applied to a double flower, a second double flower will spawn as an item.

Flower biomes

This chart shows the types of flowers that can naturally generate in each biome, and which biomes can spawn flowers when bone meal is used on grass blocks. Flowers marked "generation" only generate as part of the biome from chunk generation.

Usage

All flowers can be used as decoration.

Navigation

Sunflowers always face east, so they can be used as a direction guide.

Breeding

Dandelions can be used to breed and lead rabbits.

A totem of undying is an uncommon combat item that can save holders from death. It is dropped by evokers, which spawn in woodland mansions and raids.

Obtaining
Mob loot
Evokers always drop one totem of undying upon death. The drop rate is not affected by Looting.

Usage
If the player is holding a totem of undying in their off-hand or main-hand slot and receives otherwise fatal damage, the totem saves the player from death. The totem of undying must be in the player's hand (main hand or offhand) for it to work—it does not work if it is in the hotbar, unless selected. Any mob that can hold a totem of undying (in a hand or in the mouth) can use it while holding it.JE The totem can be used only once; it disappears after use. It does not save the player from death caused by void damage, the kill commands or even a tipped arrow with harming effect damage.

Effect
When activated, the totem of undying restores 1, removes all existing status effects, then grants 40 or 45 seconds of Regeneration II, 40 seconds of Fire Resistance I and 5 seconds of Absorption II. An animation shows the totem of undying appearing to hover in front of the player's screen, similar to the animation seen when a player receives the Bad Omen or Hero of the Village effect or encounters an elder guardian. When killed by an Instant Damage tipped arrow, the arrow's instant damage takes effect after the totem has been activated.

The totem of undying also works in Hardcore mode.

Prismarine crystals are items obtained by defeating guardians or elder guardians. They are used along with prismarine shards to craft sea lanterns.

Obtaining
Mob loot
Guardians and elder guardians have a 40% chance and 1 chance, respectively, of dropping prismarine crystals upon death. The maximum drop count is increased by one per level of Looting.

Mining
Prismarine crystals are dropped by sea lanterns when not using a Silk Touch tool. They drop 2–3 crystals each time, which can be increased to a maximum of 5 using the Fortune enchantment.

Flint is a mineral obtained from gravel.

Obtaining
Mining
When a block of gravel is mined, there is a 10% chance for a single piece of flint to drop instead of the gravel block. When mined with a Fortune-enchanted tool, this chance increases to 16% at Fortune I, 25% at Fortune II, and 100% at Fortune III. Gravel mined using a tool with Silk Touch or gravel that fell on a non-solid block never produces flint.

Trading
Novice-level fletcher villagers have a 50%bedrock or 2java chance to offer 10 pieces of flint for 10 blocks of gravel and an emerald.

0.1.0Tropical fish also have assigned names that can be seen after capture. In Java Edition, the smaller text under the item name is displayed showing the fish name, similar to the text that displays enchantments under enchanted items. In Bedrock Edition, the item name is displayed showing "Bucket of <fish name>". Their colors are mostly named according to the colored block names, though with a few exceptions:
  • White
  • Silver
  • Gray
  • Black
  • Brown
  • Red
  • Orange
  • Yellow
  • Lime
  • Green
  • Teal
  • Sky
  • Blue
  • Plum
  • Magenta
  • Rose

The base color comes first, and if the pattern color is different, it comes after that. Lastly, the fish bucket is given a name according to the shape and pattern of the fish:

Flopper Glitter Betty
Stripey Blockfish Clayfish
Tropical Fish Patterns
Kob Snooper Brinely
SunStreak Dasher Spotty

Some tropical fish don't follow the normal naming system, and instead, reference real-life fish species. Apart from these names, these types of fish aren't different from regular tropical fish in terms of design or behavior.

These varieties are:

Name Type
Anemone Orange-Gray Stripey

Paintings are decorative entities that hang on walls.

Obtaining
Crafting
Paintings can be crafted with any color of wool. The color of the wool used does not influence the picture chosen when the painting is placed.
Once placed, it displays a random painting.

Breaking
To remove a painting from a wall, the player can attack it, break one of its supporting blocks, cover one square of it with a block, hit it with an arrow, egg, ender pearl, snowball, or fire charge, or subject it to an explosion. The painting then drops as an item. Arrows that hit paintings disappear.

Trading
Master-level shepherd villagers sell 3 paintings for 2 emeralds.

Usage
Placement
Paintings can be placed on the sides of solid blocks, signs, banners, or sculk veins. A small gap is visible between the painting and attachment surface. There are several different sizes of paintings (see below). When placed, a painting checks for the largest amount of space it has. It then chooses a random painting of that size. The player can add blocks around the painting to ensure it is the size wanted. When the supporting blocks are removed, the painting breaks after 20 game ticks (1 second) if no supporting blocks are replaced during that interval.

Properties
Being an entity, paintings can simultaneously exist in the same space as blocks such as water or torches. Specifically, they can share the space with any block whose collision box does not intersect its hitbox.

Players and mobs are able to walk through paintings, as long as the blocks supporting the painting allow it. Secret doorways can be created this way. Light propagates through paintings as well.

If a player is concealed behind a painting, the player's name is also concealed from other players. Is this true in Bedrock?

Paintings are non-flammable.

Canvases
There are 26 paintings in the game. These are mostly based on paintings by Kristoffer Zetterstrand, who also created the Minecraft versions.

Unused paintings
In v0.5.0 alpha, with the addition of paintings to Pocket Edition, four unused 32×32 paintings were present in <samp>kz.png</samp> which remained unused. See Bedrock Edition unused features for more information. They were also added to Java Edition in snapshot 22w16a. They cannot be placed by default, but can be summoned by commands (such as {{cmd|/summon painting ~ ~ ~ {variant:"water"} }}) or through a datapack.

* The texture on the back of a painting is the same as the wooden planks texture, but with a yellowish color similar to that of chests (but slightly darker).
* The "Skull on Fire" painting contains a Minecraft world in the background, which is based on a screenshot taken by the artist in Alpha 1.1.2_01 (or earlier) on October 12, 2010, at 13:22:49 (UTC+2).

* The "Skull on Fire" painting's texture was added in Beta 1.3. However, the code for paintings to randomly display the part of the Kz.png texture that was to be occupied by the Burning Skull painting was added earlier, in Beta 1.2_01. As there was nothing on this part of the texture except for a purple background grid, this is what would be displayed if the painting was randomly chosen, until the Burning Skull painting texture was actually added.
* The original "Skull on Fire" painting was given to the winner of an official texture pack competition by Mojang.

Horse armor is a special type of armor that can be given to a horse to wear.

Obtaining
Chest loot
iron-horse-armor
golden-horse-armor
diamond-horse-armor

Crafting
crafting

Only leather horse armor can be crafted; other horse armor can be obtained only from chest loot from some generated structures.

Trading
Expert-level leatherworker villagers sell leather horse armor for 6 emeralds as part of their trade.

Usage
Only normal adult horses can wear armor; foals, donkeys, mules, and undead variants such as skeleton horses and zombie horses cannot be equipped with armor.

Types
Horse armor has leather, iron, gold, and diamond variants. However, horse armor does not have netherite or chainmail variants.

Armor Stands
Horse armor cannot be placed or displayed on armor stands.

Protection
Horse armor can be equipped to horses either by manually placing it in its respective slot by pressing E while riding the horse (Horse Armor), or by right-clicking the horse with it.

There is a gradual increase in the defense given from a horse wearing the different types of armor. Note that golden horse armor provides more protection than iron horse armor, whereas the opposite is true for player armor.

When a horse dies while equipped with any horse armor, it drops its normal loot, saddle (if it had one), and the horse armor.

Leather horse armor protects horses from freezing in powder snow, but it does not negate other powder snow effects (e.g., falling through, inability to jump).

Durability
Unlike player armor, horse armor does not have durability. This means a single horse armor can be used infinitely unless destroyed.
Enchanting
Unlike player armor, horse armor cannot be enchanted in survival mode. However, java Creative mode, horse armor can be used with an anvil to enchant with Depth Strider, Thorns, Respiration, Feather Falling, and Curse of vanishing. Other enchantments can be applied, but they have no effect.

Dyeing
Leather horse armor can be dyed 12,326,391 different colors (using lone dyes or dye combinations) and put onto a horse to display that color. These changes can be reverted by using a filled cauldron with dyed leather horse armor.

Smelting usage
Piglins
Piglin are attracted to golden horse armor and run toward any golden horse armor on the ground, inspecting it for 6 to 8 seconds before putting it in their inventory.

The Smarter Watch was a joke offhand item.

Usage
Smarter watches were "equipped" by having them placed into the offhand slot. Upon equipping, they would display the current time above the hotbar, in minutes and seconds, with one minute of in-game time being 5/6 of a real-time second, and one in-game hour being 5/6 of a real-time minute or 50 seconds.

The smarter watch would also notify the player of statistics milestones, alongside taken damage, item specific info, crafting items and more. What exactly?

A minecart with command block is an impulse or repeating command block inside a minecart.

Obtaining
The minecart with command block is obtainable only using the command give @s command_block_minecart, as it does not appear in the creative inventoryBE and has no crafting recipe. It can also be summoned using the command summon command_block_minecart. It can be broken like any other minecart, but only the minecart is retained, while the command block is lost.

Usage
Command Block
The minecart with command block combines the functionalities of both minecarts and command blocks. Although the minecart visually contains an impulse command block, it functions more similarly to a repeating command block, and runs its command once every four game ticks when on an active activator rail. When it passes over a detector rail with a comparator connected next to it, it outputs the command block's result.

Obtaining
Mob loot
Squid
A squid drops one to three ink sacs upon death. The maximum amount is increased by 1 per level of Looting, for a maximum of 1 to 6 with Looting III.

Fishing
Ink sacs can be obtained as a "junk" item from fishing. The Luck of the Sea enchantment decreases the chance.

Trading
Wandering traders sometimes sell 3 ink sacs for an emerald bedrock. Apprentice level librarians also buy 5 ink sacs for one emerald.

* Each type of dark prismarine can be crafted using varying amounts of 8 prismarine shards.

Trading
Journeyman-level librarian villagers have a 2 chance to buy five ink sacs for an emerald. They always offer the trade .

Signs
Ink sacs can be applied to signs or hanging signs to revert glowing text back to default.

A minecart with TNT is a block of TNT inside a minecart. Unlike normal TNT it can detonate instantly under certain conditions and its damage and blast radius is increased by its speed when it detonates.

Obtaining
Crafting
Minecarts with TNT can be retrieved by attacking them, and by doing so it drops as an item.

Usage
A minecart with TNT detonates after a delay on these conditions:
* It moves over a powered activator rail.
* It is destroyed while in motion (except by a player in Creative mode).
* It is destroyed by fire, lava, or an explosion.
*java, it is hit by a fire charge.

The delay is 4 seconds for an activator rail, like the TNT block. For other causes there is a random delay between 0 and 1.9 seconds, but more likely to be close to 1.

It detonates instantly on these conditions:

* It hits the ground with a downward velocity of it falling more than three blocks, unless landing on any form of rail.
* It turns on a curved track too fast, with a solid block or entity located beside the track (in the previous movement direction).
* It is hit by a flaming arrow.
* It is pressed into a block or entity and has velocity.

Upon detonation it acts as normal TNT, exploding and damaging nearby blocks, players, and entities. Upon detonation after activating on activator rail, it does not destroy its rails and the blocks the rail is on, however other nearby carts can.java More than one minecart can be placed on the same rail block, allowing many of them to fit into a single block. They explode when touched, dealing large amounts of damage.

The explosion has a base power of 4, the same as regular TNT, but the game also adds a random bonus value up to 1.5 times velocity, but no higher than 7.5. This means that with a speed of 5 or higher the power will be a random value between 4 and 11.5. When triggered by an activator rail or by damage, the bonus value is calculated using the horizontal velocity of the minecart. When hit by a flaming arrow the velocity of the arrow is used instead. When triggered by fall damage, the fall distance divided by 10 is used.

Minecarts with TNT bounce off of other minecarts and cannot be linked to minecarts with furnaces.

An item is an object that exists only within the player's inventory and hands, or displayed in item frames, glow item frames, or armor stands.

Behavior
Some items, when used, place a block (ItemBlock) or entity (minecart, spawn eggs, etc.) version of themselves into the game world. Put simply, they are an item when in the inventory, and a block when placed. For example, boats turn into an entity when placed, and beds turn into a group of blocks when placed. When selected in the hotbar, items briefly display their names above the HUD.

The only method by which an item can be properly displayed within the game environment is to place it into an item frame.

If an item that does not become a block is dropped, it becomes an entity represented by a sprite that floats above the ground for 5 minutes in a loaded chunk before despawning, unless the player walks over it to pick it up before it despawns, it is picked up by a mob, hopper or minecart with hopper, or it is destroyed by fire, lava, cactus, or explosions.

A submerged object ascends towards the water’s edge. When the surface current is in motion, the object is propelled along with it.

Hoppers draw in any items that are placed above them.

Most items stack to 64, but some only stack to 16, and others not at all. However, all types of items can be stacked up to 127 through inventory editing.

Trivia

  • Due to the nature of the flowers' spawning algorithm, it is possible (but relatively rare) to find naturally-spawned flowers and grass in lava, caverns or abandoned mine shafts.
    • Also, it is possible to find a flower dropped as an item on the ground naturally, because it didn't generate on dirt or grass blocks, thus dropping itself.
  • Like other non-solid transparent blocks, flowers can break falling objects, like sand.
  • Jeb noted that peonies were the flowers that were used for his wedding.[1]
  • Neither roses nor rose bushes apply damage when walked through, despite roses having thorns.
  • Two-block tall flowers can hide you from mobs since the flowers are as tall as a player is and mobs cannot see through transparent blocks like plants.
  • Avoid using give commands to get two tall flowers, as the wrong number can corrupt your map beyond recovery.
  • Flower spawns from bone meal in a flower forest biome depend only on the horizontal position; the world seed has no effect. The flowers spawned with the chunk do depend on the world seed.
    • The flowers spawn along a gradient: poppy, allium, azure bluet, red tulip, orange tulip, white tulip, pink tulip, oxeye daisy.
