TakingInventory

The popup that appears when an achievement is achieved.

"The End?" and "The End." redirects here. For the dimension, see The End.

I like achievements. I know a lot of people don't, but I like them. I've had the idea to make achievements kind of like the in-game questing. So you'd be able to see the first achievement in a tree of achievements, and you unlock the top ones first before you can unlock the ones further down. So the first one might be to chop down a tree, or kill a chicken, and then these branch into more things you can do. Hopefully it would encourage people to try new areas. It could converge into a big task, like kill a dragon or something, which would put a kind of narrative into the achievement tree.

Notch

Achievements are a way to gradually guide new players into Minecraft and give them challenges to complete. There are currently 34 achievements in the PC edition, 20 achievements in the Xbox 360 Edition, 29 trophies in PlayStation 3 Edition, 46 trophies in the Playstation 4 Edition, and 50 achievements in the Xbox One Edition.

Obtaining

Achievements can be completed in any game mode, including Creative. They are obtained and saved separately based on world.

In the console editions, they can only be done on Survival, and if the game is switched to Creative or host privileges are enabled, going back to Survival or disabling host privileges will not allow completion of achievements, because switching to Creative or enabling host privileges disables achievements. Achievements are independent of each other, allowing you to get them in any order.

You can also obtain them by either being an operator or having cheats enabled, then using the /achievement command.

Usage

When an achievement is obtained, a message is broadcasted to the server declaring the player who earned the achievement. This can be disabled in the server settings.

In the Xbox editions, achievements grant the player gamerscore, totaling 445 on the Xbox 360 and 1000 on the Xbox One.

The achievements in the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 Editions act as trophies.[1]

Interface

AchievementInterface

The achievement interface with the first achievement done.

The button to access the Achievements screen is found on the main menu screen of Minecraft. Next to it is a button to access the Statistics interface.

Minecraft's achievement system involves a tree composed of achievements, some of which must be completed before others can be. Originally the interface showed the achievement tree on the left, and a 'mini-map' of the tree on the right. The mini-map was removed in the final version, which now simply shows the tree. The background of the tree mimics the world with dirt at the top with stone spanning below, bedrock at the bottom, and ores distributed as they would be in the world.

The Xbox 360 Edition and PlayStation 3 Edition use the standard Xbox 360 achievement and PlayStation 3 trophy interfaces, respectively, instead of the tree display.

In an interview by Gamasutra, Notch said: “I like achievements. I know a lot of people don't, but I like them. I've had the idea to make achievements kind of like the in-game questing. So you'd be able to see the first achievement in a tree of achievements, and you unlock the top ones first before you can unlock the ones further down."

He also said: “So the first one might be to chop down a tree, or kill a chicken, and then these branch into more things you can do. Hopefully it would encourage people to try new areas. It could converge into a big task, like kill a dragon or something, which would put a kind of narrative into the achievement tree.”

Finally, asked if such a move would risk leading players down a preset path, rather than encouraging exploration and invention as Minecraft does in its current state, Notch said: “Definitely not. I’d want these achievements to feel like things you can try, rather than these are things you have to do. People can follow them, but only if they want to.”

March 18, 2011Notch talks about achievements and statistics on his blog. He says the following:

I worked on the achievement and stats system. One design issue was dealing with offline mode and syncing the achievements once you get a connection again, but that’s been solved. We’ve got a couple of people in the office who don’t like achievements in games at all, so the goal is to design something that they’re fine with.

Also, he adds that achievements will not be chores:

Achievements will NOT be chores like “cut down 10000 trees”, but rather challenges like “ride a pig off a cliff”. Stats, however, will be used to keep track of how many trees you have cut down. The long term plan is to show achievements and stats from the profile page on minecraft.net as well, in case you want to brag.

April 8, 2011Notch uploads a video to YouTube showing weather, statistics and achievements.

A minecart is a train-like vehicle entity that runs on rails.

Obtaining
Minecarts can be retrieved by them for some time. Minecarts can also be retrieved with one attack from a pickaxe provided the player's attack cooldown is reset. A minecart is also destroyed if it makes contact with a cactus, or if shot with a bow and arrow.

Entity loot
Minecart with command blocks can be given to the player with the /give command or through the creative inventory under certain conditionsjava; minecart with spawnersjava are available only via the /summon command. Each drop 1 minecart when broken.

Usage
A minecart can be placed in the same manner as most blocks but can be placed only on top of a rail. Once placed, it may be derailed by pushing it off the end of the track. After this, it can be railed again by placing a rail directly below it or pushing it onto a track.

Crafting ingredient
crafting usage

Transportation
Transportation

Minecarts can be ridden by on them. Once inside, an external impulse may be needed to make the minecart start moving. The player can slowly move the minecart forward while riding it, by pressing forward. If a mob walks in front of an empty minecart, it is pulled into the cart.

After rolling off of the end of a track, a minecart can be pushed around on open blocks. If a minecart is pushed onto or falls onto tracks, it "snaps" to those tracks. When riding a minecart, if the minecart lands on a rail, the player does not take any fall damage. <!--Minecarts and arrows don't interact anymore.-->

Unlike with beds, there is no message above the hotbar for attempting to enter a fully occupied minecart.

Dismounting
Players can exit the minecart by pressing sneak. When a player or mob dismounts a minecart, either by choice, by breaking the minecart, or by passing over an activator rail, the minecart tries to find a safe ejection destination one block away. First it checks the eight horizontally adjacent blocks in the following order of priority relative to direction of travel: right, left, rear right, rear left, front right, front left, rear, front. A valid destination has a block underneath with a solid (not necessarily full) top surface and a space with enough headroom and width for the passenger to fit in when standing at the center. The space can even contain liquid or have open trapdoors if the mob is slim enough, and presence of other mobs doesn't matter. If no valid destination exists on same horizontal level, the minecart then checks the blocks one above, then one below. For a player, the minecart also checks for crawlable destinations. If still none, the minecart chooses its own location. Once the minecart picks a destination, it actually ejects the passenger one block up in the air and the passenger settles down on its own. Under a low ceiling this may cause one tick of suffocation damage. The air drop exists to allow passengers to land on carpet or bottom slabs.

Behavior
Speed
Minecarts have a predefined speed limit of exactly 8 blocks per second. However, this speed limit does not change the minecart's speed value but instead limits how far a minecart can travel each tick to 0.4 blocks. Therefore, a minecart moving from powered rail to normal rail will move at constant speed for some time until decelerating because its internal speed value is over its speed limit of 8.

Powered rails powered by redstone give minecarts a boost of speed. Speed is gradually decreased (due to drag) if there are no powered rails to assist its movement, and an unpowered powered rail slows down a minecart rapidly. The speed decreases at a faster rate when going uphill, compared to when moving horizontally. A minecart does not need powered rails to assist its movement down a hill.
<!-- Is this comparison to real-life physics necessary? - One unit of kinetic energy could be defined as the energy gained by a cart going down a one-block slope and lost by a cart when it goes up a one-block slope. If a 45-degree downward slope is connected directly into an upward slope, an initial height of 60 blocks results in a final height of 40 blocks, a loss of 20 units of potential energy. But if 20 sections of flat track are inserted between the slopes, the final height is 35. This implies that one unit of energy is lost for every 4 sections of horizontal track traveled with an initial stored energy of between 60 and 40. At much lower speeds, much less energy is lost, implying that the energy lost is a percentage of the cart's current energy. The above gives about 0.5% energy loss per section of track. One implication of this is that more energy lost when the cart has more energy, so a gradual slope should allow you to travel much farther distances than a steep slope followed by a long flat section. (This is different from real-life physics, where friction does not increase with velocity. However, it may be an attempt to mirror air resistance, which does increase with velocity.) -->

Anything in the way of the minecart brings it to a stop. Once a minecart has left the track, it rapidly decelerates within one or two blocks. When mobs touch a minecart, they affect it in the same way a player would, i.e. mobs that move up against a still cart set it in motion.

If a minecart is moving fast enough, it can skip across one block without a track and reattach to track on the other side, at significantly reduced energy and speed. A minecart's hitbox can skip turns if the minecart is boosted using enough powered rails.

The speed and momentum of a minecart can differ depending on whether or not it is empty, and in the case where a minecart has a container, the speed can differ depending on the quantity and type of items inside.

Merged minecarts
java, two or more minecarts can be merged by pushing them into each other so that they overlap. Merged minecarts move as a collective, like a train, and can be useful for long-distance transport because while moving in a straight line, they do not need powered rails to keep their speed.

To summarize:
* Minecarts can also be merged by dropping a minecart on another minecart.
* Merged minecarts do not lose speed while traveling on straight rails
* Corners in the rails might cause merged minecarts to unmerge.
* Minecarts with chest (even fully filled) can also be merged and also do not require powered rails.

Distance traveled by empty carts starting on a downward slope
This table shows the distance traveled by an unoccupied minecart on a downward slope, with a boost (or no boost). The most efficient way is to use only 1 boost at the bottom of the incline on the flat surface. Using 2 increases distance by about 20% or 1.5 blocks. All distance trends based on the height seem to be logarithmic.
The carts started from rest, on a slope Height blocks up.

Collision
Minecarts are about the same size as a block (1×1). Because of this, a ladder, door, or trapdoor prevents it from falling down a 1×1 hole. Carts on rails also ignore collision in certain situations. A cart traveling uphill, downhill, or on a curve with a block placed in front of it, goes through the block.

A minecart that reaches the end of a rail up against an opaque solid block bounces back, but if the block is transparent then it stops. The minecart can even bounce against an opaque block from a standstill if the rail underneath is powered. A player or mob riding in a minecart does not collide with or suffocate in any transparent blocks but suffocates inside opaque blocks.

Minecarts are completely unaffected by ice, packed ice, and blue ice; they can also be destroyed by coming in contact with lava or fire.

Mobs
section

Mobs can ride minecarts, but cannot control them. Mobs cannot exit the minecart unless the minecart is destroyed or moves onto an active activator rail. However, bedrock, endermen are able to teleport out of minecarts.

A mob can ride a minecart when pushing by a moving minecart on rails java or when colliding with a minecart bedrock. It is easier to pick up a mob when a minecart is turning. bedrock, armor stands can also be picked up.

Most mobs can be picked up by minecarts, except ender dragons, wardens, and withers. java, iron golems cannot be picked up either.

A jockey riding a minecart automatically accelerates the minecart. Mobs in minecarts don't despawn, and don't count towards the mob cap.java

Boats
Due to the bug MC-113871, boats can be captured by minecarts. When a boat is placed in a minecart, the minecart travels faster on rails, approximately as fast as on powered rails. The movement in the boat minecart is glitchy and moving forward with the W key moves the cart backward relative to the player, and vice versa for moving backward with the S key. The minecart also moves on the rail-less ground at a crawling speed, but it does not float in the water despite being in a boat.

Using this glitch can be far more resource-efficient since the boat minecart can move at the speed of a powered rail track on flat ground and on slopes. Another physics glitch with the boat minecart is the extreme reduction in friction when the minecart is on rails, which is similar to the lack of friction when a boat is riding on ice. This glitch can be done in Survival without cheats simply by pushing a minecart into a boat on the track. This bug is now patched.

Trivia
* Minecarts appear to float above the track, as their model has no wheels.
* If the player views their inventory while riding in a minecart, they appear sitting down in mid-air.
* The player can teleport to another minecart while sitting in a minecart by right-clicking a minecart in their range. This can be used as an elevator to quickly rise up when minecarts are placed on top of each other.
* If the sound is muted in the options while riding a minecart, and then turned back up, the minecart no longer makes noise in the client until the player exits the minecart.
* If a saddled pig is riding a minecart, the player can ride the pig. Doing so causes the minecart to be able to ride freely at the player's walking speed. It is unknown whether this is a glitch.
* It seems that hunger does not deplete while inactive in a minecart (at least in normal difficulty).
* A minecart (alongside rails and powered rails) are used as Steve's Side-Special in the crossover fighting game Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Trivia
* be, bowls are actually more fuel efficient than sticks. If 6 wood planks are crafted into 8 bowls, 8 items can be smelted; but if those are crafted into 12 sticks, only 6 items can be smelted. Redstone dust is a mineral that can transmit redstone power as a wire when placed as a block. It is also used in crafting and brewing.

Obtaining
Mining
Redstone Ore#Natural generation
Redstone ore mined using an iron pickaxe or higher drops 4 or 5 redstone dust (or more with Fortune, averaging at 6 redstone dust with Fortune III). If mined with Silk Touch, the block drops itself instead of redstone dust.

Natural generation
15 lengths of redstone dust are naturally generated as part of the trap in each jungle pyramid. 5 lengths of redstone dust can be found in one type of jail cell room in a woodland mansion. In ancient cities, multiple pieces of redstone dust can be found integrated into circuitry.

Breaking
Redstone dust can be broken instantly using any tool, or without a tool, and drops itself as an item.

Redstone dust is removed and drops as an item if:
* its attachment block is moved, removed, or destroyed
* water or lava flows into its space
* a piston tries to push it or moves a block into its space

Mob loot
Witches have a chance of dropping 0–2 redstone dust upon death. This is increased by 1 per level of Looting, for a maximum of 0–5 redstone dust.

Chest loot
redstone

Crafting
Redstone dust can be crafted from blocks of redstone.
{{Crafting

Trading
java, novice-level cleric villagers sell two redstone dust for one emerald.

bedrock, novice-level cleric villagers sell four redstone dust for one emerald.

Villager gifts
Tutorials/Raid farming
Java, when the player has the Hero of the Village status effect, clerics might throw that player a redstone dust as a gift.

Usage
Redstone dust is used for brewing, crafting, and in redstone circuits by placing it on the ground to create redstone wire. It can also be used to power redstone components.

Placement
Redstone dust can be placed on opaque blocks as well as glowstone, upside-down slabs, glass, upside-down stairs, and hoppers. It can also be placed on some transparent blocks; see Opacity/Placement for more information. It cannot be placed suspended in midair, even with commands, which is not unintentional.

Redstone wire configures itself to point toward adjacent redstone power components and transmission component connection points. Redstone wire also configures itself to point toward adjacent redstone wire one block higher or lower – unless there is a solid opaque block above the lower redstone wire.

If there is only one such adjacent redstone component, redstone wire configures itself into a redstone-dust line pointing both at the neighbor and away from it. If there are two or more such adjacent components, redstone wire connects them in the form of redstone-dust, redstone-dust-upleft, redstone-dust-t-up, or redstone-dust-cross as needed.

When there are no adjacent components, a single redstone wire configures itself into a redstone-dust-cross plus sign, which can provide power in all four directions. By right-clicking it can be changed into a redstone-dust-dot dot, which does not provide power to any of the four directions.

bedrock, redstone wire automatically configures itself to point toward adjacent blocks or mechanism components. java, it does not. If such a configuration is desired, the other neighbors of the redstone wire must be arranged to create it, i.e the redstone dust must be placed in a way that it would be pointed at the block’s location even if it were not there.

When redstone wire is reconfigured after placement, it does not update other redstone components around it of the change unless that reconfiguration also includes a change in power level or another component provides an update. This can create situations where a mechanism component remains activated when it shouldn't, or vice versa, until it receives an update from something else – a "feature" of redstone wire that can be used to make a block update detector.

Redstone wire can transmit power, which can be used to operate mechanism components (doors, pistons, redstone lamps, etc.).
Redstone wire can be "powered" by a number of methods:
* from an adjacent power component or a strongly-powered block
* from the output of a redstone repeater or redstone comparator
* from adjacent redstone wire. The powering dust can be a level higher or lower, but with restrictions:
** Redstone dust can be powered by redstone dust that is one level lower, or on an opaque block one level higher. A transparent block cannotjava pass power downward.
** The block "between" the two dust blocks must be air or transparent. A solid block there "cuts" the connection between the higher and lower dust.

The "power level" of redstone dust can vary from 0 to 15. Most power components power-up adjacent redstone dust to power level 15, but a few (daylight sensors, trapped chests, and weighted pressure plates) may create a lower power level. Redstone repeaters output power level 15 (when turned on), but redstone comparators may output a lower power level.

Power level drops by 1 for every block of redstone wire it crosses. Thus, redstone wire can transmit power for no more than 15 blocks. To go further, the power level must be re-strengthened – typically with a redstone repeater.

Powered redstone wire on top of, or pointing at, an opaque block provides weak power to the block. A weakly-powered block cannot power other adjacent redstone wire, but can still power redstone repeaters and comparators, and activate adjacent mechanism components. Transparent blocks cannot be powered.

When redstone wire is unpowered, it appears dark red. When powered, it becomes bright red at power level 15, fading to darker shades with decreasing power. Powered redstone wire also produces "dust" particles of the same color.

While redstone wire always provides power to the directions it points into, it can still point into directions in which it cannot give power. If redstone wire comes in the form of a cross, the player can right-click to toggle it between a cross and dot. A redstone dot does not power anything adjacent to it, but powers the block under it.

A knowledge book is a utility item that reveals available crafting recipes to the player when used.

Obtaining
Knowledge books can be obtained only by using commands, as it is not found in the creative inventory; therefore, it is impossible to obtain in other modes such as survival and adventure except with commands.

For example, to give oneself a knowledge book that reveals the recipes for buckets and flower pots, use: {{cmd|give @s minecraft:knowledge_book{Recipes:["minecraft:bucket", "minecraft:flower_pot"]} }}.

Usage
Knowledge books are used to reveal recipes to the player who uses it, by adding it to their recipe book. Using a knowledge book consumes it, removing it from the player's inventory.

Knowledge books are especially useful to mapmakers in conjunction with gamerule doLimitedCrafting true, because then any item is craftable only if its recipe is unlocked first.

Nether sprouts are a non-solid fungi block that generate in warped forests.

Obtaining
Natural generation
Nether sprouts generate in warped forest biomes.

Breaking
Nether sprouts can be mined instantly with any item. The block also breaks if the block below is removed, or if water flows into its space. The block only drops if broken with shears.

Post-generation
Applying bone meal to warped nylium creates nether sprouts on that block and surrounding nylium, along with both types of roots and fungi.

Usage
Nether sprouts can be planted on the same blocks that fungi and roots can be placed on: nylium, soul soil, grass, podzol, mycelium, moss, dirt, coarse dirt, rooted dirt, and farmland. However, they cannot be planted in flower pots.

Composting
Placing nether sprouts into a composter has a 50% chance of raising the compost level by 1.

Writing
By pressing use item or long pressing screen anywherebedrock while holding a book and quill in their hand, the player can open a text editor GUI.

Using this GUI, the player can write a single book up to 100java or 50bedrock pages long, with up to 798 characters per page. The player can write up to 79,800java or 12,800bedrock characters inside the entire book. No page may be longer than 14 lines and each line can have a width of 114 pixels (see pixel width of each character here).

The player has the ability to copy and paste into books. However, the paste does not work if the text being pasted is longer than a single page. Most Unicode characters are available in books, and they may be pasted in without issue.

In singleplayer, the world pauses while a book is being edited.java

Lecterns
One can place a book and quill or a written book on an empty lectern.

The lectern then emits a redstone signal depending on the displayed page in the book. On the last page, the lectern emits a signal strength of 15. This is why lecterns are listed in the "redstone" tab in the creative inventory.

Formatting codes
Formatting codes

Text in a book can be styled using codes starting with the § character (section sign).
* § + k creates randomly changing characters.
* § + l creates bold text.
* § + m creates strikethrough text.
* § + n creates underlined text.
* § + o creates italic text.
* § + 0 – f (hexadecimal) creates colored text.
* § + r resets any of the previous styles so text after it appears normally.

If the player uses multiple codes, and continue typing past the end of a line, the next line exhibits only the last formatting code used.

Signing
Books can be signed by pressing the "Sign" button while in the interface. java, when signed, a book bears the name of the player who wrote it and a title chosen upon signing. bedrock, the book doesn't display the name of the player as the author; instead, the author can be any text the player wants. After it has been signed, it cannot be edited again – it has turned into a written book.

Special characters can be used in the title, if typed from a keyboard that supports them. Alt codes do not work, and the § character cannot be typed even using a keyboard that implements it, meaning titles cannot be colored or formatted in-game. However, on Linux using the compose key to produce special characters does work.

The title of the book can be up to 16 characters long, and the player cannot paste into a title. A "workaround" for the 16-character limitation is to manually rename the book at an anvil, which always costs 1 experience level. This can be done with either a written book or a book and quill – both versions will always display the changed name. If a custom name is removed from a written book, it will revert back to the title it was given during the signing process.

Chiseled bookshelf
the chiseled bookshelf while having a book and quill in the main hand will put the book inside the chiseled bookshelf.

Trading
bedrock, expert-level librarian villagers buy 2 books and quills for one emerald. Book and quill is offered in two item slots due to being non-stackable.

java, expert-level librarian villagers have a 50% chance to buy 2 books and quills for one emerald. The amount of books and quills needed is supposed to be 2, but due to the item being non-stackable, only one is needed for the trade.

* The in-game restrictions on books are not hard limits. Third party editors or commands can make books have more than 100 pagesjava (2,147,483,639 pages), more than 256 characters per page (32,767 characters per page), can change author names, and can have colored titles, among other things. 13w36aUpdated the Achievement system, now stored per individual world/server.
Added more achievements: Adventuring Time, The Beginning?, The Beginning., Beaconator, and Repopulation. Adventuring Time was unobtainable.
Achievements can now be used as objectives in the Scoreboard system.
13w37aTime to Mine!, Time to Farm! and Time to Strike! are now also obtained when crafting the tool from a material other than wood. Similarly, Getting an Upgrade is now obtained when crafting any pickaxe other than a wooden one, while it required crafting a stone pickaxe before. If your first pickaxe crafted is not a wooden one, you will get Time to Mine! and Getting an Upgrade at the same time.
13w38aAdded the achievement Diamonds to you!.
The icon for DIAMONDS! was changed from Advancement-plain-raw to Advancement-plain-raw. The former icon is now used by Diamonds to you!.
13w39bDiamonds to you! can now be obtained by throwing a diamond at a zombie, making the achievement available in singleplayer mode.[4]

A door is a block that can be used as a barrier that can be opened by hand or with redstone.

Obtaining
Doors can be found in any Overworld biome, and can also be crafted from any type of wood as well as materials found in the Nether. Some have built-in openings that are useful for determining the time of day.

Breaking
Wooden doors can be broken with anything, but axes are fastest. An iron door can be broken with anything if the top half of the door is broken. All doors drop themselves if they no longer have a block beneath them that can support them.

}}

A door is removed and drops itself as an item:

* if the block beneath the door is moved, removed, or destroyed
* if a piston tries to push the door (trying to pull a door does nothing) or moves a block into its space

Natural generation
Doors generate in some generated structures, forming the entrances to the majority of buildings. Doors do not generate in zombie villages.

Usage
Wooden doors can be opened and closed by players, villagers, wandering traders<!--Wandering traders cannot open doors in java edition. -->, vindicators, and piglins. Wooden doors can be broken by all variants of zombies (except drowned) and vindicators in Hard difficulty.

Iron doors can be opened only with redstone power.

Placement
Doors must be "attached" to a block beneath them. To place a door, use a door item while pointing at the top of the block it should be attached to. A door can be attached to:
* the top of any full solid opaque block (stone, dirt, blocks of gold, etc.)
* the top of an upside-down slab or upside-down stairs
* the top of a slime block or downward-facing piston

More information about placement on transparent blocks can be found at Opacity/Placement.

When placed, a door occupies the side of the block facing the player, or behind a player if placed in the player's own space.

By default, a door's "hinge" appears on the side of the half of the block that the player pointed at when placing and its "handle" on the opposite sidejava, but the hinge is forced to other side by:
* Placing a door besides another door (creating a double door where both doors open away from each other)
* Placing a door between a full solid and any opaque block (top or bottom), making the hinge appear to attach to the solid block.

Behavior
Water and lava flow around doors. Lava can create fire in air blocks next to wooden doors as if the wooden doors were flammable, but the doors do not burn (and cannot be burned by other methods either, except throwing them into lava).

Mobs can spawn in a space occupied by a door.

The sound of opening and closing of a door can be heard up to 16 blocks away, like most mob sounds.

When placed using the setblock command, only one half of a door is placed, because doors are actually two separate blocks. The lower half still works, but with graphical bugs, and the upper half does not. Redstone cannot be used because it updates the half, breaking it. The upper half does not drop anything when broken, the lower half drops a normal door. This implies that the upper half is dependent on the lower.

Barrier
A door can be used as a switchable barrier to entity movement. Although primarily used to block movement by mobs and players, a door can also be used to control the movement of boats (for example, a door placed in a two-wide water flow stops a boat when perpendicular to the flow, but allow it to move again when parallel), items and minecarts (a door can stop a falling item or minecart, then allow it to drop again when the door moves), etc.

Java, doors provide a breathable space if placed underwater. bedrock, doors in water source blocks are waterlogged and do not displace water source blocks.

Doors are 0.1875 (3) blocks thick (0.1825 bedrock). The rest of a door's space can be moved through freely. A door occupies two block spaces and both halves normally act as a single barrier, although doors can be opened or closed with a player or mob occupying the bottom block of the door, in which case the player can jump up to land on the bottom half of the door and then again to land on top of the door.

To open or close a wooden door, use the control. When a door opens or closes, it immediately changes its orientation without affecting anything in the space it "swings through". Moving doors do not push entities the way that pistons do.

Villagers, wandering traders, vindicators, piglins and piglin brutes can open and close wooden doors when pathfinding.

Some zombies can break wooden doors in Hard difficulty. Zombies have a 5% chance to spawn with the ability to break doors. Vindicators spawned from a raid in Normal and Hard difficulty can also break wooden doors, but they do so only to reach targeted players, villagers, or wandering traders. Some vindicators may sometimes open a wooden door instead of breaking it.java Both zombies and vindicators attempt to break wooden doors only when in their "closed" state, even if a door is placed so that its "open" state blocks access (for example, by facing sideways when placing a door so that it allows passage when closed and blocks passage when open).

Iron doors can be opened only with redstone power (a button, a redstone circuit, etc.). Any mob can activate an iron door by stepping on a pressure plate or by triggering a tripwire.

Redstone component
Redstone circuit

Both wood and iron doors can be controlled with redstone power.

A door is a redstone mechanism component and can be activated by:
* an adjacent active power component, including above or below: for example, a redstone torch, a block of redstone, a daylight sensor, etc.
* an adjacent powered block (for example, a block with an active redstone torch under it), including above or below
* a powered redstone comparator or redstone repeater facing the door
* powered redstone dust configured to point at the door or a directionless "dot" next to it; a door is not activated by adjacent powered redstone dust that is configured to point in another direction.

All methods of activating a door can be applied to either the top or bottom parts of a door.

When activated, a door immediately rotates around its hinge side to its open state. When deactivated, a door immediately returns to its closed state.

An activated wood door can still be closed by a player or villager and does not re-open until it receives a new activation signal (if a door has been closed "by hand", it still needs to be deactivated and then reactivated to open by redstone).

Fuel
Overworld wooden doors can be used as a fuel in furnaces, smelting 1 item per door.

Note blocks
Wooden doors can be placed under note blocks to produce "bass" sound.

14w06aAdded the achievement Overpowered.
14w17aAdventuring Time is now available without commands. Before, the 38 biomes had to be visited without visiting any other biomes, which made the achievement unavailable because the End has to be visited for its prerequisite, The End?. The “no other biomes” restriction is now lifted.[2]
Visiting the FrozenOcean and Extreme Hills Edge biomes, which no longer generate since 13w36a, is no longer required for Adventuring Time.
14w32aCorrected the description of the achievement Overkill to say you must deal nine hearts of damage. Previously it said you must deal eight hearts of damage.

Issues

Issues relating to "Achievement" are maintained on the bug tracker. Report issues there.

Trivia

  • When an achievement is obtained, it is announced to all players in chat.
  • On PC version, achievements can be obtained in any game mode. Because of this, it is easy to get more difficult achievements such as On A Rail, When Pigs Fly, and Sniper Duel, and others by using creative mode.
    • Return to Sender is an exception to the above, because it requires a ghast fireball, and ghasts only attack the player in survival, hardcore, and adventure mode, although it can still be obtained through commands.
  • Achievements such as Delicious Fish cannot be rewarded if you hook up the furnace to a hopper, as you are not getting the item directly from the furnace.
  • When using a command to give an achievement, a player will receive all previously required achievements as well as the one being given, spamming chat.
  • You can reset all of your achievements in a world by deleting the "stats" folder in the world file. Beware that it also resets statistics.
  • Sniper Duel became much more difficult when monsters started despawning depending on their distance from the player. 50 blocks is far enough that skeletons will despawn fairly quickly (usually within a couple of minutes or less), and will not move around.
  • When Pigs Fly requires Cow Tipper. Cows drop leather, but there is no crafting recipe for a saddle.

References

  • The Lie is a reference to the Internet meme "The Cake is a Lie", which itself is a reference to the video game Portal.
  • "Achievement Get!" is a reference to a decade-old proto-meme: early screenshots of Super Mario Sunshine used the Japanese localization, and featured Mario grabbing a Shine Sprite with the prominent text "Shine Get!". Due to the prominence of the game and the attention given to these screenshots, "[noun] Get!" subsequently became a popular term used on image boards as post count benchmarks, which Notch occasionally visits.
  • Return to Sender refers to a message often written on non-personal letters, usually in case that a letter ends up at an incorrect address.
  • When Pigs Fly is a reference to a well known saying meaning something absurd that would never happen.
