More renders?

Could you do some more renders for me? I don't have any for the new blocks added with 1.3. again, in sizes 25x25, 50x50, 200x200 and 400x400.

  • Bed
  • Wooden Halfblock
  • Cobble Halfblock
  • Redstone Delayer

and some stuff that wasn't added in 1.3, but I'm missing.

  • Wheat/Crops
  • Yellow Flower
  • Rod Flower
  • Brown Mushroom
  • Red Mushroom
  • Fire
  • Ladder
  • Minecart Tracks
  • Redstone Wire
  • Sapling
  • Bamboo/Sugar Cane
  • Bottom half of door

Much appreciated!

StoreClock 20:53, 6 March 2011 (UTC)

Well these:
  • Wheat/Crops
  • Yellow Flower
  • Rod Flower
  • Brown Mushroom
  • Red Mushroom
  • Fire
  • Ladder
  • Minecart Tracks
  • Redstone Wire
  • Sapling
  • Bamboo/Sugar Cane
are just flat sprites, and therefore don't have any renders.
The rest are done. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 05:22, 7 March 2011 (UTC)

Glowstone Render

You might want to take a look at or reupload the image for {{escaped link|Glowstone_(Block)}}. It looks like the cache for the Wiki got confused and swapped it with a 32x32 version.

Stubs

Saw you were cleaning up Seeds, and left the stub tag therein. What constitutes a non-stub page then? The Seeds article looks pretty fleshed out, isn't it? -Wulfenbach (not on fire for once) 09:07, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

The thing is, it doesn't really have that much information in it, it's just spread out. However, it's probably just on the edge of not being a stub. I'd say a few more decent sentences and it'd be good. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 09:12, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
Hrm, I will adopt yoga pose #154B (Polar Bear Reclining Romanesquely) and ponder both the tao of stubness and for some more sentences then. Om. -Wulfenbach (not on fire for once) 10:34, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

Upcoming_features and table width

Good evenmorning, U. Quick question as to your change to the tables in the above page: Why 880px as a (hard?) limit? I don't know if it's my browser setting or what, but the tables stretch well off the right of my screen and won't wrap worth beans. Is it the 880px setting then? If so, why that as a width choice? -Wulfenbach (not on fire for once) 12:36, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

The table cells were already set to a hard width setting, however Chrome is retarded and ignores individual cell sizes unless the total table width is specified. The reason they have a set width in the first place is because there are two tables with varying content sizes, and they are meant to be the same size as it looks better. I'll modify the tables so they shrink for people with an absolutely tiny res (under 1080px). –ultradude25 (T|C) at 12:56, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
Browser wars FTW! Well, thank you for the fix. I and my absolutely ancient Trinitron CRT monitor appreciates this. Taking a look at your fix, is it a good idea then to go through pages with tables and make those mods as appropriate then (for something else to do)? -Wulfenbach (not on fire for once) 00:43, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
The wiki's formatting breaks on any resolution under 700 horizontal px, so as long as the tables fit within that, then it'll only cause a horizontal scrollbar for people who can't properly use the wiki anyway. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 01:06, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
Huh, learnt a new thing today then. Thank you. :) I assume one uses the width call within the table structure to better size the table for fitting text and the like around it, right? Are there other situations you can think of where it's of use? -Wulfenbach (not on fire for once) 01:12, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

Page Deletions

(For Lands) Why did you delete it? It is a legitimate quality of the game, albeit one that you would only be able to view by cheating. Is it possible to restore it, if no where else then on the original authors page? Oh, and thanks for working on Template:Mod and moving Mods/Airship! --Jonnay 04:25, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

It's easy to restore, but do we really need a page on a simple glitch? It's basically the game bugs out and someone gave it a name. Then again, it's like the void, which I also don't think there should be a page on. These sort of pages are going to all be stubs, there's not a whole load of information you can really say about them. Perhaps the best solution would be to combine them into a single page. I'll restore it for now, but it's something we need to think about.
It was also a rather terribly formatted page. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 04:43, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

deleted crafting output files

Hi, you deleted today all crafting output files. Unhappily in the German version, too. Now we are missing a lot of pictures! look here. How can this happen?

Appears the wiki is being retarded. The files are completely different and shouldn't be linked together. This is something to take up with Wynthyst. She should at least be able to contact the appropriate Curse staff to get the issue fixed if possible. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 22:34, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

The video was added and removed before you added it, it had a note that it's fake and uses a server mod. That's why I removed it. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 23:24, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Overwatch AI

Hi, You can also run a bot on the Polish wiki (and other)? Or would you give a copy to me, and I run it myself on my wiki (you explained how to run it)? (I know you probably don't want to share your work in this way). Lewandowski (TALK # CONTRIB) 09:43, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

The bot probably only functions correctly on English wikis. The spellchecker definitely won't work unless you make your own list for other languages or find someone else who has made one, but I haven't tried running it with spell check off on other languages yet. You can give it a try if you want. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 09:52, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

I'm confused. . .

You edited the telegraph page by making the pics smaller again, saying that "not everyone has big screens". I agree. Which is why the pictures were big a minute ago. So people with small screens can still see them without having to click each one and load another page. Maybe I'm missing something, but please let me know! And by the way, thanks for the 'work in progress' thing, I didn't know it could do that. –The preceding unsigned comment was added by SAMSTER5 (Talk|Contribs) 17:24, 23 March 2011. Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

Big, as in amount of pixels. A 500px image isn't going to allow much room for text and sidebar design on a screen running 640x480. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 08:35, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

Page and Artilce Deletion

I hope the guy above me doesn't mind me tagging this on his...I don't know how to create a comment on its own.

Earlier, you deleted my article on how to use the Dispenser as a gaming device for SMP servers. I had the article located after the probability chart on the Dispenser page.

Then I created a page devoted to listing the Server Mini Games. It included information on Spleefing (which I know is already in this wiki) and then I began work rebuilding the other article I had written. When I finished the information, and went to preview it, red text told me that the page had already been deleted.

Why did you delete my information? I wasn't breaking any rules, or going against any policies (that I know of). I was simply trying to inform other users of the potential of some blocks' usages.

Weird orphan result

The documentation page for Programs_and_editors/entry is showing up as an orphaned page, despite it being referenced on the main template page. This seems odd. Can you take a look at it? -Wulfenbach (not on fire for once) 08:38, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

Dunno. Do the others do it? –ultradude25 (T|C) at 08:53, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
Nope, hence my confusion. The other templates I've looked at seem to have the same general layout and links as the problem one, but I can't see what's causing the glitch. Might just be that it's 3am local, though.-Wulfenbach (not on fire for once) 08:59, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

Wiki Directors

Greetings to the administrators of Minecraft Wiki International!

In an attempt to bring the six language wikis into a more coherent working group, I have created the Minecraft Wiki Directors group on the English wiki. If you do not have an account there, please create one using the same username as on your wiki. If you already have one, you are already part of the usergroup.

This group has access to :en:Minecraft Wiki:Directors a page and talk page strictly for communication about items for all of the Minecraft Wiki sites. I have listed some starter items that I think are areas where the 6 sites need to work in sync to be able to present a more unified experience for all of the communities we serve. I would like to see you all participating in discussion and also presenting ideas or addressing any issues you feel impact all of the sites.

Individually, our sites are a good resource for the Minecraft community worldwide, but working together we could be great!

Please add the Directors' page to your watchlist and notifications. Thanks! - Wynthyst Image:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 19:02, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

I made both those links check the logs. one of my videos is even named minecraft the first 10 minutes and was made when the link was. What happened was people changed my links and i changed them back.

problem

hey, so you never responded to my previous message. People are taking my links that i made and changing them to point to their videos and you keep helping them. whats going on? -starfoxz13

Alright I've done some further checking into this, the videos you posted are indeed the originals, so I apologise for that (although they are using custom texture packs, which makes them rather bad for tutorials). However, the one on the survival page is completely against the rules and is not staying. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 05:57, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

No, red apples are not found in dungeons because you say so. It's not in the source code.

I think Notch removed Apples in dungeons a while ago. That is the only explanation. I asked him about on twitter but I doubt he'll respond. -- bobtheblueberry 00:44, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

oops! sorry

Ultradude25, really sorry about all the images i uploaded, I hope they didn't cause you too much trouble.... I just learned the basics for creating/editing wiki pages recently. I'd like to submit images correctly, on that front I have 2 questions:

  1. how do I put my images in the Category:Grid Mods category? I looked around for a way to add them since I knew they needed to go there, but couldn't find one and thought the parenthetical mod reference would be parsed from the picture save name...
  2. what image editing software do you use or is there a way to make transparent backgrounds (I assume only the backgrounds have to be transparent) in Paint?

Again, really sorry, when I figure out how to do it right I'll try posting 1 image and see if it goes through before adding any more... Jasper Zorin 05:41, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

No it wasn't to much of a problem, Special:Nuke allows me to delete everything you've created with just a few clicks.
  1. You put {{escaped link|Category:Grid mods}} in the edit summary. (technically it doesn't stop the image from working, but the image needs to be categorized so people can actually find it easily)
  2. You should probably try using Paint.NET, MSPaint is absolutely useless for any decent image editing. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 06:03, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

Block Template

Could you please take a look at Template:Block? I don't think it allows mod imiges yet, also the 36x36 invimage doesn't make sense when inventory images all have a common border for the extra 4 pixels anyways(using the same grid image would also save me the trouble of making 25 new images). I'm going to look into making/editing templates when I have time because I have to figure out what to do with all of these new GUIs associated with the mod i'm tracking, so no rush... Thanks! - Jasper Zorin 06:13, 3 April 2011 (UTC)

Template:Block has no restrictions on images, however I have yet to get around to making it use grid images. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 07:14, 3 April 2011 (UTC)

Custom servers

Sorry but I don't get the reason you are removing MCForge from the server list. Tyteen4a03 06:58, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

Because it's a fork, which aren't allowed on the page. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 07:15, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
Some custom servers forks will then never see their way out. Take blockBox as an example, iCraft has been removed from the custom server list, and blockBox is forked from it. Will it be allowed to take iCraft's place on the main page later on? Also, MCLawl is a fork off MCSharp, why is it allowed to be on the main page?
Sorry for so many questions, but I feel that this needs to be explained more clearly. Thanks! Tyteen4a03 09:23, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
I don't run the custom servers page, IKJames does, you should be asking him. I'm just going by what I've seen him remove in the past. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 09:27, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

Question and Adding Page

I was wondering if I can make a quick tutorial video for this Page, I'm pretty good and very informative about Minecraft and I was thinking that it would help minors who starting out in Minecraft.

Also I notice there is a page about mods and there is a big special mod that includes a ton of creatures. (Mo Creeps & Creatures) But I don't want to get in trouble if I make a page about this mod.

Please respond asap. WiiMaster890 13:10, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

Well I don't really think a video is necessary, considering it's explained in text perfectly fine.
You can make pages on mods as a subpage of Mods. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 23:13, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

Image Deletion (bot?)

I submitted 1 image twice because the IndustrialCraft author currently uses the exact same image for EC Manipulator and Cable Obscurator. I was wondering if Grid EC Manipulator (IndustrialCraft).png could be restored or if there was a way for me to post a copy (of an image) without it being deleted in case the mod author changes the image in the future (as he has done with other items before). Thanks! - Jasper Zorin 18:59, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

I'm not sure what you mean. Any file/page can be restored, nothing is ever really deleted on a wiki, it's just hidden from the public. If you just want to upload the exact same file twice just upload it and check ignore warnings. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 23:23, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

Template:Block temporary break

Regarding this, why would the template have to be broken during updates? —Obsidian Faceplanter (talk) 05:50, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

Because adding a whole bunch of legacy code to support the old method of doing things makes the whole template much too confusing. Much easy to just slap a warning on it while I go through every page and fix it. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 05:52, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

Table (Question)

Sorry I have another quick question for you.

I was wondering about adding on to the table on this page

I want to add images and show how bright the object is in a dark area. (Torches, glowstone, etc.) Pretty much my idea about the screenshot images is pretty much taking every object that reflects light and go into a flat area and placing light object in the middle of the flat area (when its nighttime/cave)

I think this would be great to add-on images into tables. But I want your honest thoughts about this idea because I'm still unsure. –The preceding unsigned comment was added by WiiMaster890 (Talk|Contribs) 23:01, 5 April 2011. Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

The images would be a bit small to really see anything if they're going to fit in that table. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 00:33, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
Well it just gonna be a lit object and dark area, nothing too detailed even if is small. WiiMaster890 02:37, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
You can give it a go I guess. Worst that could happen is it looks crap and gets reverted. :P –ultradude25 (T|C) at 02:44, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

Hey dude

We'd appreciate it if you stopped performing mass deletions of files/articles without discussion. Today you gave the German wiki a crapload of work by deleting several files without asking around, and we didn't create the Directors page for nothing.--Quatroking - MCWiki Administrator 20:15, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

Technically, he moved the images w/o a redirect left. But it still works out the same. --JonTheMon 20:45, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
I did try to fix it but oddly it didn't seem to accept the new file name, even though they're supposed to be linked and then I ran out of time and had to do some other things. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 23:43, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

Bare Hands Article?

Is there not an article on Bare Hands/Fist or am I just missing it? Bare Hands are essential to the game, as they are all you have at the start of any game, they have their own speed at mining different resources(even if you can't collect them)/damage while attacking mobs, etc... what do you think? - Jasper Zorin 14:25, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

Can you delete/overwrite /ptbr pages to /br?

I will restart the project a guy made. But if you could remove de /ptbr and change to /br you would really make me happy. I called some helpers but if I make a translation for pt-BR you would delete.

Do it for us, brazilians?

You can do it yourself, simply use the Move tab at the top of the page. However, I would prefer it stays where it is. -- Wynthyst Image:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 08:21, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

"translating templates"

I noticed you've deleted the template Blocks/it with the motivation "no translating templates". I get that there is some policy against translating names, right? But i think we still need a template with links to the italian pages instead of the english ones... what's the point of having a template that doesn't directly link to the pages I want to go to? Maybe you could just clone the english template, add /it on all the links, and then blok the template so nobody edits it to translate the names. --Ipergorilla 14:17, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

Wynthyst said templates should not be translated until the project earns a subdomain. Take it up with her. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 14:26, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

Could you explain to me what all is copyrighted on the wiki? I used to think that it was all free information, but I stand corrected. I know the articles are, but are the images copyrighted as well? MoonBeans (u-t-c) 23:09, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

I'm not 100% sure. Probably best to ask Wyn. But as far as I know, pages are not free from copyright. They come under the Curse ToS. All images of Minecraft come under Mojang AB's copyright, screenshots with the Windows UI in come under general copyright (no idea about MacOS). And the rest is up to the owner. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 11:00, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

Three quick questions

  1. who/which admin should I ask about that Bare Hands page?
  2. would it be possible to add a 2nd image/invimage to the Item template in order to support different item states?
  3. would I be allowed to create a mod template based off the Grid/Furnace template which allows someone using the template to choose their own image for both the fire and arrow parts of the Furnace? perhaps the name would be Grid/Mod Furnace or something...

Thanks! - Jasper Zorin 21:33, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

  1. Why do we need a bare hands page?
  2. It is, but so far there are none that need it.
  3. I could add customizability to the template... –ultradude25 (T|C) at 01:12, 13 April 2011 (UTC)
  1. if you don't want one, that's fine with me... i just thought there were enough unique properties...i'll just remove the red links from my page then
  2. There are several IndustrialCraft items (e.g. batteries) that have 2 states, would it be too much trouble just to add a second invimage? or should I make my own template for that? ModItem or some-such?
  3. Thanks! I could still learn template syntax and make my own though if you don't want to bother... -Jasper Zorin 01:37, 13 April 2011 (UTC)
  1. Well the only unique things properties I can think of is the damage to mobs and the amount of time hands take to break blocks, but these should be listed on the appropriate pages.
  2. I'll add it now.
  3. I'd rather keep away from making new templates and instead just add functionality to the existing ones. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 02:30, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

How do you make them?

Well im quite new to the wiki and i was wondering, How do you make those 3d renders of blocks?

No block image changed to Power Rail?

Hi. It seems your last edit of the image :File:No_block_image.png is wrong. It is now displayed as the new Power Rail. Now all the blocks with no image will be displayed as Power Rails. I am unable change it back. Please do so. Thank you. --Pchackal 15:48, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

The wiki seems to like fucking around with the image cache and randomly changing images. I think it's become self-aware and is probably trying to figure out how to kill us. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 15:22, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

You should have a look!

I hope you can add some pages to translate included the flowing link:

http://mc314upbbs.w263.mydnns.com/forum.php?mod=forumdisplay&fid=67&page=1

I have no idea what that link is. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 15:21, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

Why?

Why do you keep taking the picture of pistons away? --Yulex2 20:08, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

Because what they'll look like is purely speculative; just because they're making it from an existing mod doesn't mean they'll keep the same appearance. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 19:55, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
Well you don't seem to care about the crafting recipe from the mod. --Yulex2 20:08, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
The crafting recipe states it's from the mod and not the official recipe, the image doesn't. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 20:02, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
Then can we just say it's from the mod under it? --Yulex2 20:08, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
That would require modifying the template to accommodate a caption area under the image. Not happening. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 20:10, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

Please be more careful when reverting edits

Please take more care to read the surrounding text when making modifications, as your edit (id 80235) to the Sheep article, undoing my edit, made the article incorrect. Only reading and modifying small bits of text, rather than their whole context, leads to inaccuracies (and terrible writing). However, I would like to apologise for not elaborating in my edit summary as to the nature of said edit. Had I done so this situation would likely not have arisen. --LazyMiner 21:03, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

Oh yeah, didn't notice that. Sorry! –ultradude25 (T|C) at 01:34, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

Quick question.. Well, no, it's rather long, sorry.

Why is the main page locked? And I'm bugging you because you made the most recent edit to it, sorry if you weren't the one who locked it?

Because in my opinion, if the main page has been vandalized, then you should give them a chance/warning (or two, if it wasn't too bad?) and then ban them, maybe even blocking the site for them. Sure there are trolls on the internet, but I am willing to bet good money that there are more... anti-trolls, who could just revert the changes, or fix them up (after reading that discussion right up there XP). No offense, but one or two people can't really be left with a job as important as updating the main page. I mean, come on. The main page tends to be updated every three or four days, which may not seem like much, but the biggest things can happen in those three or four days.

I do understand the issue of the fact that you might think the format of the main page looks ridiculously awesome and you don't want anyone poking and prodding at it, and that could be where templates come in.

tl;dr: that first sentence...question.--Artsy 14:44, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

P.S. This page is getting rather lengthy

Protecting the main page of popular wiki's is a very common practice. We provide an edit copy that the general community can propose changes and update on. The admins watch for changes and sync the two when appropriate. With a site that is getting multi-millions of hits per day, having the main page vandalized even for a few minutes is a bad thing. -- Wynthyst Image:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 14:51, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
(Wyn edit conflicted me, so some of this she probably already said) You can use the editcopy page for suggesting changes to the page, but aside from news updates, the main page really doesn't need to be updated often (keep in mind that the version is handled by a template, so the main page changes more often than shown). The main page is an important page and even if the vandalism is only up for a few seconds, it'd still be seen by hundreds due to how popular the wiki is. It's really best to keep it locked and leave community changes to the editcopy page. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 14:54, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
P.S. I archive every two months
...Oh that could help. I hadn't known about the editcopy page (small print at the bottom of things tend to elude me a lot)... Does this wiki really get millions of views a day?--Artsy 14:59, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

RE:Just a heads up

I noticed on the English wiki (and here too), you're using a template for your signature. That's fine, just so long as it's substituted. If you could set your signature to subst: in your preferences that would be great. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 17:26, 29. Apr. 2011 (UTC)

(I reply here for better communication.) Did you mean that you want see the code in the text? My signature is very long, so I wanted to hide them. -- Oliver Scholz de.Wiki Admin 19:14, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
Well you shouldn't have a long signature anyway! Mine is just about on the limit of signature length. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 04:03, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
I changed it, you're right. -- Oliver Scholz de.Wiki Admin 10:55, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
