Thank you[]

I'd just like to issue you my personal thanks for your work on the wiki. Great Job. ReubenHung 06:00, 9 November 2010 (CST)

Thank you! --Barracuda 12:03, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
I'd like to thank you also. Thanks for compressing all those images! -F1racer101 10:46, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
Hehe, that's just a matter of minutes thanks to some command line tools ;-) --Barracuda 10:52, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

I'd like to thank you on creating that template! I had no idea how to. great job!--Kizzycocoa 17:15, 22 December 2010 (CST)

No problem, even though the template was really fiddly work. It could be done easier and more elegant with CSS, but that requires edits in the MediaWiki:Common.css stylesheet. --Barracuda 17:24, 22 December 2010 (CST)

Sprites[]

What are we gonna do about block sprites within the inventory? (the isometric ones) -- Eric304 16:34, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

Add them later, I can write a script to combine those images into one sheet. For now, we need to finish blocks and items first. --Barracuda 16:41, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
I've come to inform you that part of fence image on the block template is behind the text, and for the pumpkin, I can only see the side of the pumpkin. Drenay
I've improved the fence already, you probably need to refresh your browser's cache. But what's the problem with the pumpkin? There's only the side and top sprite that can be displayed for it. --Barracuda 19:06, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
Some links on the template are red. Drenay 19:16, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Thank you[]

I would like to thank you for taking such an active role in setting up the sprites for the nav boxes. Resolving the server issues they were causing while still providing the images is a wonderful thing. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 14:17, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

It was a lot of work, but it was worth it. Now the icons look better, cause less server load and are quite intuitive to use. Some templates still are a bit messy and redundant, though, but I'm sure it will be improved sooner or later :) --Barracuda 15:58, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

Help![]

We are having some issues getting the items template using the sprites working on the Dutch page. [1] it seems to only want to display the first sprite. Any chance you could take a look at it and help? Thanks Barracuda! -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 22:31, 20 February 2011 (UTC)

Meh... nvm. I figured out what we were doing wrong :D -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 22:50, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
Oh, ok. What was the problem? :o --Barracuda 09:20, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
Forgot the sprite/pos template :P -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 09:53, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
About that, why do repeaters have ladders? Drenay 03:44, 24 February 2011 (UTC)
Uh, where? I updated the image and replaced an duplicate ladder sprite, but I updated the template as well. Or is the Dutch wiki using the image from the English one? --Barracuda 17:07, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

New request for help[]

Hi Barracuda! I'm trying to figure out how to make this sprite system work on other wikis, and running into difficulties cuz I don't really understand it. Would you be willing to help me? Please email me, using the Email this user link from my userpage. Thanks! -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 23:53, 2 March 2011 (UTC)

Ok, I'll help you out tomorrow :) --Barracuda 03:51, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Link templates broken[]

I don't know what you've done, or why, but the link templates don't work now.
Originally you had {{ItemLink|id=id|link|name}} now it just ignores the last one, so the link uses the link as its name, which as you can see on Template:Items looks terrible. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 06:42, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

Right, I forgot to implement the third parameter correctly in [[Template:SpriteLink]]. It's working again now. --Barracuda 07:05, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
Nope, the image links to the text, instead of the actual link (look at the sun image on [[Template:SpriteLink]] for example). –ultradude25 (T|C) at 07:36, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
Fixed. Note to self: need to set up an experimental MediaWiki server for template testing... --Barracuda 07:48, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
You could just do what I do and test it under your userspace. I even have a project area to contain anything that has a lot of pages (like the sprite templates), you just need to make sure to write down all the sub pages on the project page so you can easily get around and not get lost/confused. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 07:56, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
Ok, but there's still the "problem" that all changes on user pages appear on the recent changes page. I think a local, private server gives more room for silly testing :) --Barracuda 08:44, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
You can always use my wiki as a test zone... a few of us do WynWiki and all the sprite stuff is already there :P -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 10:59, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

[[ItemCSS.png]][]

Doesn't have a sprite for when one doesn't exist (like in the case of map). –ultradude25 (T|C) at 08:00, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

I've noticed that, too. Which is really strange, because I'm 100% sure there was an icon for unknown sprites in the sheet before. But it's in none of the previous revisions... --Barracuda 14:42, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

IIRC, I did that because of Map vs [[Map (Item)]]. It's just an alias and it might actually be used, so I wouldn't bother to change it. --Barracuda 10:22, 22 August 2011 (UTC)
I just wanted to know. Well, thanks!--From Moi,Ajc_1254! 19:55, 22 August 2011 (UTC)

Renderings[]

I just wanted to say that your Isometric renderings are BEAUTIFUL! Good job! Shockman25Talk 06:23, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

Thank you! Still, there are some reverts here and there for strange reasons... maybe they're not good enough yet. :> --Barracuda 06:28, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
Well you're using ambient occlusion and no shading. Not very minecrafty.
I don't have so much of a problem with ambient occlusion (although it'd be better without it, plus it'd be a lot faster to render), but the shading is certainly necessary. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 07:43, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
You're right. I previously had some troubles to make the shading look good, but I think I've got the correct settings now and will redo the renderings with shading. And I think AO looks really great on some models, like the Silverfish, for example. --Barracuda 07:58, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

Ambient on Mobs?[]

How do mobs have ambient... that makes no since. I mean, ya it's the wiki, but it's to help show what mobs look like not what they look like with all this added shadows and stuff. –The preceding unsigned comment was added by Wall142 (Talk|Contribs) Please sign your posts with ~~~~

There's currently no way to create isometric images of the mobs that look exactly like in the game (it would be possible with mods, but it's pretty hard to create one for that, even with the Minecraft Coder Pack). I'm just taking advantage of the possibilities of using an offline renderer. Minecraft blocks are already using ambient occlusion, so why not the models, too? --Barracuda 08:31, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
Barracuda your renders are fine and they've pretty much become the standard. Please file a formal complaint if Wall142 continues his regressive edits. --Ecksearoh 18:56, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
I'm thinking about that, but it's not just Wall142. User:Calinou also likes edit-wars. I've the impression that the images need to be protected again... --Barracuda 20:06, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
Ah forget it... I'll just redo the renderings one last time. I won't care for the next revert wars on my images anymore. Do whatever you think is right. --Barracuda 12:33, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

Render of cow[]

The position of the cow horns are not like ingame. They should be on the sides of the head. – Scaler (t) 09:29, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

The horns are bugged and have no fixed position relative to the head. They shift to the left or right, depending on the head angles. The effect is clearly visible in one of the old revisions: [2]
I used the code from the game to create the models and it is positioning the horns as shown on the image. I'm not sure if the bug is fixed in 1.9, though. --Barracuda 09:56, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
The horns are on the side of the head in 1.9. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 10:39, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
Okay, thanks. I'll change it later then. --Barracuda 10:48, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
Uh actually they're still not in the right spot. They should be one more pixel down and one more pixel forward.

Animated Sun and Clouds?[]

Hi Barracuda, is there any way you could update the Sun and Clouds pages with animated versions? Also if possible an animated time lapse for the Day/night cycle page showing the changeover from the new Sun to the new Moon? Thanks in advance! --Ecksearoh 11:21, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

What could be animated with the sun and the clouds? Just the movements? And it's of course possible to create an animation of a full day/night cycle, but that's pretty time consuming. I'll think about it. --Barracuda 11:32, 21 October 2011 (UTC)
Completely understand, it would only have cosmetic value. --Ecksearoh 20:18, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
Okay, done. It took barely 10 minutes thanks to a modded in-game timer. :) --Barracuda 11:08, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

Monster Spawner.png[]

A pig inside the spawner would be more appropied as it will be like this when you place it from your inventory (means the main mob is a pig) and on the servers its all the spawners. Could you change this? –Preceding unsigned comment was added by CoolKill3r (talkcontribs) at 20:17, 11 November 2011‎ (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

I could do that of course, but naturally occurring spawners never spawn pigs and you normally don't have them in your inventory, so... --Barracuda 21:18, 11 November 2011 (UTC)

I see you added all occurring mobs into spawners into the png, nice looks good. maybe this will be too much but is it able to make it turn like ingame? --CoolKill3r 18:17, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Well, it's possible for sure but if I do that for all mobs, the GIF would become pretty big. I think it's fine as it is now. --Barracuda 18:34, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Creeper render[]

You forgot to remove AO from the creeper render. Re-render it for the sake of consistency? ElementalChaos 20:57, 12 November 2011 (UTC)

Program Template[]

Quote: Two parameters with the same name won't work. Also, this seems to break the whole template. -Barracuda
Thanks for fixing it. I realized it couldn't use the second parameter, but I wasn't sure how to fix it since I don't really know wikicode or the code that it uses, so I had tagged it for fixing. If you want, could you check these templates to see if they have the wrong code/format? {{tl|Expand section}}, {{Cleanup}}, and {{Orphan}}. And I don't think these are the only templates with possible problems. Thank you for the help. - Asterick6 02:12, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
Hm, these templates seem to be fine. They're fairly simple message boxes, there's not much that can go wrong with them ;)
But yeah, Template:Program and the other info boxes with its numerous parameters and the complex markup are sometimes straining me, too. It's always better to ask someone else to fix it when you're not sure how to do it by yourself. --Barracuda 09:48, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

Glowing redstone[]

Can you make a glowing redstone ore image for the Technical blocks page? Thanks. Somebody500 (有人500) 16:07, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

Good idea, I uploaded it as [[:File:Redstone_(Ore,_Glowing).png]]. --Barracuda 19:05, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

More animations[]

What you did with the Ender Dragon was impressive. Would it be possible for you to make more animated mob images? Such as Endermen idle smoke, rotating Blazes and animal/mob walking animations for each mob page.

:)

I was already afraid this would be suggested by someone ;) Well, maybe I can do this for some more mob pages, but it's quite a lot of work and the static high-res renderings could be more interesting in some cases. The GIFs could also blow up the traffic usage of the wiki, which I would like to avoid. --Barracuda 03:06, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

[[:File:Villagers.gif]][]

Could you provide the original images you used to make this animated gif, please. I want to try improving it's quality. Thanks – Scaler (t) 17:49, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

Ocelot and Cat render[]

Is there any reason the ocelot and cat renders are not here yet?--Yurisho 21:51, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

Yes, I need an upgraded version of [[Minecraft Coder Pack]] first, because isometric screenshots are petty much impossible without modifications. Or I rebuild the models in Blender, but the obfuscated source code is pretty unsuitable for that. --Barracuda 15:50, 31 January 2012 (UTC)
Ah well, I quickly hacked the model together nevertheless, it isn't very complex anyway. :) --Barracuda 20:58, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

Oh, I'm a bit late now I guess, do you still need it? Need the modified skin, though. --Barracuda 19:37, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

I was wondering, can you make another image of Herobrine, but with proportions matching the image of Steve?

Thanks in advance for any reply! --Kizzycocoa 13:00, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

Okay, I made one. But unfortunately, the file is protected and I can't update it. Would you or Ultradude mind unlocking it? :) --Barracuda 15:04, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

Nice work![]

Thanks for drastically improving the way the NBT structures are done! I had tried to make templates to support entire trees but I couldn't get around the limiting template syntax I found on Wikipedia - I suppose the bulleted lists are just fine now with Ultradude's trees and your icons (my plan would have made things messier). I really appreciate you taking the time to help, the pages are looking far better than when I first found/created them. The only minor details I see wrong are that the List and String icons look too similar and that it's not possible to tell when a tag is named "" versus having no name. I don't think the problems are worth fixing though because everything is much clearer and neater than it was before anyway, and tooltips, descriptions, and common sense fix them anyway. Thanks! LB(T|C) 22:49, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, after seeing that Ultradude did this nice treeview stylesheet, I was inspired to fix the messy markup as well. :)
The difference between the string and list icon is very small indeed, but I couldn't find better choices from the icon set I used, at least not with the document icon in the background. Maybe I can customize it later for better distinction.
And I played around a lot whether the template should display empty name strings or not and came to the conclusion that it's the best to display nothing. Double quotation marks alone as a placeholder just look weird and other placeholders like (empty) seem too long and confusing IMHO. --Barracuda 23:23, 19 July 2012 (UTC)
The treeview is copied from wikipedia, I just changed it a bit to work here. It certainly looks a lot nicer. The only thing that bugs me is they way we've had to do those additional field areas; don't know how to display it better though. ultradude25 (T|C) at 23:49, 19 July 2012 (UTC)
You mean those extra fields for mobs, for example? Well... can't think of a better solution right now. --Barracuda 16:56, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
Well the only thing I can think of is to do something like this: (or without the line connecting on the left)
SkeletonFace Additional fields for Mobs:
    •  Health: Amount of health the entity has. A value of 1 is half a heart.
    •  AttackTime: Number of ticks the mob's "invincibility shield" lasts after the mob was last struck.
    •  HurtTime: Number of ticks the mob turns red for after being hit.
    •  DeathTime: Number of ticks the mob has been dead for. Controls death animations.
    •  ActiveEffects: The list of potion effects on this mob. May not exist.
      • A potion effect
        •  Id: The effect ID.
        •  Amplifier: The potion effect level. 0 is level 1.
        •  Duration: The number of ticks before the effect wears off.
It results in a blank li tag, but it's the only way to add classes/styling to a wikitext list. ultradude25 (T|C) at 17:17, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
I think the current way is fine - the tags don't look just 'out there'. It's certainly difficult to represent realistically, but it looks nice and it gets the idea across. LB(T|C) 03:31, 21 July 2012 (UTC)
