Hamachi LAN[edit]

You can setup a Hamachi LAN which allows people in your Hamachi network to connect to your LAN via Hamachi connection.

  1. Instal Hamachi. You want the Unmanaged version.
  2. Create a VPN tunnel in Hamachi.
  3. Get friends on your Hamachi network.
  4. Have everyone on the server set the Hamachi network as a Home Network, or allow Minecraft to use Public Networks.
  5. Have the person with the world/best computer/best network open a single player Minecraft world
  6. Hit Escape and hit options
  7. Select the Open to LAN button
  8. Set the options and open the LAN network
  9. Distribute the 5 digit port number that will appear in the chat window to the other players this can be done over Hamachi's chat window or another chat method.(#####)
  10. Have everyone not hosting go to the multiplayer worlds and either add a serer or direct connect.
  11. Have everyone not hosting the network copy the hosts IPv4 (not the IPv6) should look like ##.##.##.## or ###.###.#.#(not ####:#Δ::####:#)(Δ is a letter)
  12. Paste the IP in to the server address box and add : and the 5 digit earlier number (should look like ###.###.#.#:##### or IPv4:Port-number)
  13. Join server and play with your friends

LAN bug[edit]

As of Minecraft 1.3.2 there has been a bug which causes your LAN IP to be incorrectly displayed and would look something like this:

LAN shown here in this screenshot of Minecraft 1.5.2 - The text in the chat says 'Local game hosted on'

You can overcome this by doing the following, Take the port number you got when you "Open to LAN" and your Hamachi IP and combine them. e.g. + = And then you give the resulting IP to the people who want to connect and they connect with direct connect.

To find your Hamachi IP, open Hamachi and copy the IP at the top of the box that comes before the /

To find your port number, while in Minecraft press ESC and click "Open to LAN" and then click "Start LAN world" and a message should appear in the chat that looks just like the image displayed on the right here. Alternatively, you can press / and type "publish" and then if you press ↵ Enter your world will be opened to LAN.
