Crafting[edit]

Can we please move Crafting back to the "Popular and Useful Pages" Section. Most people who come to this site come here just for that, and it's very hard to find were it is now. The crafting page is especially important for noobs, and if they can find it right away it could frustrate them to the point that they stop playing, honestly it's that important. I don't like it either and so do all my friends who play the game. I can't imagine a topic more deserving of the title "Popular and Useful". When you really think about it crafting is the heart of the game. Discount Flunky

EGA 2011[edit]

Minecraft is nominated at the EGA 2011 in the categories "Best European Game," "Best Indie Game," "Best Online Game", "Best Game Design" and "Best Browser Game." Should we place a link on the mainpage? -- Oliver Scholz de.Wiki Admin 02:35, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

I need help regarding the demo[edit]

Hi, I'm interested in getting Minecraft so I downloaded the demo.

I play the demo and then it says it's loading but then the loading screen turns white and the whole window disappeared, I wondered at first if that's suppose to happen so I waited...for 20 minutes, nothing happened.

I've searched for an hour on google for topics about problems like this but I could only find people with lag problems, while I can't even get past the loading screen. I saw a youtube video that helps with a loading screen problem but my problem is different, the one in the video's is the actual game so menu looked different and their window didn't disappear when they loaded it.

Please help me with this problem, it's driving me nuts, I've tried updating drivers, graphic cards etc but none of that has changed anything.

(If I need to get a new one then please suggest it)-------- Radeon165 9/7/11 5:30PM (Australia)

Sky Dimension[edit]

I think the sky dimension is replaced with the End, so should we still have it on the main page? Assisstion 23:00, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

I concur!
The End is already out, and the Sky Dimension is cancelled, yet it is still there under the upcoming features. Assisstion 09:41, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
Notch has commented, saying he still has interest in adding the Sky dimension as a world where you go when dreaming. --Kizzycocoa 10:38, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Updates[edit]

This is a little crazy, but, can some be on here and look at every page, or split it up between your admins, because there is a lot of old info on a lot of pages that have a purpose, but have old info. The Thunderstorm page, and a bunch of pages. And if something is confirmed to be an expansion of a block or item, please make a 'Future' Section, like I did with Pumpkins. From Moi, Ajc_1254 22:51, 21 October 2011 (UTC) (I'm sooooooo sorry i forgot soooooo long ago to do this!)

Data Values[edit]

I think that the Data Values page should be on the Popular Pages. Even with the addition of Creative mode for ops, some items still have to be given with /give. I constantly visit it.--12.230.127.220 17:13, 22 October 2011 (UTC)

1.0.0 has been released[edit]

So, uh, what will happen to the "Current Beta PC Version:" thing? Will the "Beta" go away? LB 23:20, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

Foreign Language Versions[edit]

I understand that the foreign language pages are valuable. I actually like the idea, but there's a serious flaw with the current organization system in place for these pages: They clog up the auto-generated pages. Especially the "wanted pages" article.

I know many other Wikis (including Wikipedia and most of the sites on Wikia) use a prepending system to handle this. (en.minecraftwiki, es.minecraftwiki, he.minecraftwiki, etc) This would reduce the stress load on the collector functions and allow persons wishing to contribute to "broken pages" an easier time in finding them. Thanks much, BobChao 02:24, 3 September 2011 (UTC)

The prepending system is also used on Minecraft Wiki (see Spanish, French, German, Hungarian, Korean, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Russian and Chinese versions), but only when translations are sufficiently advanced. There are many people who demand the establishment of a translation project, but that translation is not often done after… – Scaler (t) 08:35, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
Alright, thank you very much. That makes it really easy to find only the pages for any one language except English. Is there any way to sort only pages that aren't, for instance, subpages or something to aid my contributions? BobChao 15:46, 5 September 2011 (UTC)

Remove cascading protection[edit]

Don't unprotect this page.--Tag2902 18:14, 3 September 2011 (UTC)

Why? Then we'd have to go and protect each template used on the page. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 23:11, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
Well, to be fair, they should all be individually protected anyways. Cascading protection is meant as a fallback, a failsafe in the event of accidental/unintentional unprotection, and there are known issues with cascading protection not applying when used by itself. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 02:32, 4 September 2011 (UTC)
Really? I thought it was just to make things easier. You could go protect the templates manually if you feel it's necessary. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 08:31, 13 September 2011 (UTC)

We've already reached 1,000 articles a couple of times now. The translation projects take up a large amount of pages, in reality, we've probably only got something like 400 pages. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 12:17, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

Yes and 7 days after the 11th is in 65 days. So what is the problem? – Scaler (t) 07:55, 14 September 2011 (UTC)

The "Current Release" info[edit]

If I were a noob and saw "Current Beta Version: 1.8pre2" I would spam the forums on why my Client won't update from 1.7.3 to it. We need a new entry stating "Current Public Release developement version: 1.8pre2", while the Current Beta Version tell you the version your client should autoupdate to.

Now obviously my tactic to fill that info is not that good considering how long the wording is: it can be made better. You all are smart guys, I'd really appreciate it if you all could find a way to shorten it. UGoBoom 23:24, 13 September 2011 (UTC)

Sourcing images[edit]

Hey, I'm not sure if this has been discussed. Should all images not created by the user be sourced? Example: File:DirtSlab.png, from The Word of Notch (notch.tumblr.com/post/220243988/half-sized-blocks-all-dirt-tiles-so-it-kinda). Pages with information not from the game are at least sourced, and unsourced contents are either discussed or removed, so why not images? And I just realized this is the wrong place but it's kind of late now.--72.19.122.119 02:24, 18 September 2011 (UTC)

1.9 pre release![edit]

nether brick, nether fences, blaze rod, ghast tear, nether wart, two new nether mobs, nether dungeons

For anyone willing to report this to Notch; I've noticed that armor, (full steel was what I was using) since it's new durability, is invalid to the HUD now since I had a full set on and it was showing that I had about 4 armor shards missing. After about twenty minutes of fighting in the Nether, I noticed that I only had my chest and pants left, when my armor said it was practically full. Just a warning for anyone that hasn't run into this issue yet. K12machinima

Wiki Color Scheme[edit]

A lot of the big wikis out there have their own color/design scheme, and maybe this one should have them too. I'm not bringing up the idea for the sole purpose of copying or "being up to par" with other wikis, but the Minecraft Wiki is far too valuable and informative to just have a white background with black text. XZippy 12:25, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

If you're talking about everything outside the content div, then I agree. However it'd be limited to any modifications you can make with vector.css. You wouldn't be able to make a custom skin as Curse would be extremely unlikely to accept it due it making upgrading the wiki more difficult. Before I found out about that I even started working on a skin based on the minecraft forum skin. I tried to make within the constraints of vector, but it just made it too limited.
Although if you're talking about the content div itself, then definitely not. Black text on a white background is statically the easiest to read, plus it'd break a lot of things. All the gif images' transparency is made for a white background, various vector styling and images are made for a white background, they'd all need to be changed. And all it ends up doing is making things harder to read. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 12:40, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
I believe that the original design intention of Minecraft wiki was to mimic Wikipedia which lead to the decision to stay pretty much with the vector default skin, as well as the Minecraft rendition of a globe for the logo. If enough of the community expressed an interest in redesigning the wiki (say to more closely mimic the Forum) it is something that can be done. It would require the participation of the international wikis as well, since we would prefer they all keep the same basic design. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 05:13, 29 October 2011 (UTC)

Agreed. Far too much cramp. There isn't even any reason to have images on the front page, unless they were randomly changed instead of having the same things all the time. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 06:56, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
Ok. It's good to hear the opinions from you two, and I see what you mean. On an iPad (for example), it looks very bad. But almost all pages look pretty bad on the iPad. Is there btw anything we can do about that? FracqGrenade | talk

Remove classic from version listing?[edit]

Classic obviously isn't going to be updated again. Alpha isn't shown on there either, and beta will be replaced by the full release version once it comes out, so I don't see the point in leaving classic there. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 19:35, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

If you refer to here we have talked about this some what. Making more of a timeline with each milestone on it to save room on the page. Removing a milestone from the timeline is unnecessary to me. Yes, we could wipe version history and start fresh with 1.0 when it comes out, but there should at least be a new time-line page. --Throex TALK|CONT 15:15, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
I think, he talking about main page. I agree with his point, but we should left link to Classic version elsewhere. — MiiNiPaaT|C 15:25, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
Ah, if on the main page I still think it should be left there. Classic is free and one of the main ways you get people into the game to buy it. They play classic, want more and buy the game. --Throex TALK|CONT 15:35, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
I have to disagree. Classic is the only free demo on the main site. Until a proper demo is released, I think it should stay. --Kizzycocoa 15:40, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
PC Gamer Minecraft Demo--Yurisho 17:09, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
I knew there was a PC Demo of Minecraft beta, but classic is free. How many people still play classic? I see no reason to remove it due to the fact that it allows people to play for free and play the game, when they get tired of it like I did, they will buy beta/1.0 and play the full version of the game. --Throex TALK|CONT 17:13, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
Yes of course I'm talking about the main page, that's why I'm posting this on the main page's talk page...
What has removing Classic's version got to do with how many people play it? Them not knowing the version number (which will never be updated again) isn't going to affect that. It just seems a waste of space to have it there. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 18:46, 10 November 2011 (UTC)

┌───────────────────────┘
Isn't this the Main page talk? :P If not then why is that page there? And it needs to stay there not because of how many play it, but because it will help advertise every part of the game, classic is an entirely different game to me, because beta introduces so much more to the game. Classic is popular and continues to help grow the beta community.. it should stay in my opinion.

No that's the edit copy, for users to make changes to the page instead of having to ask us to make them.
Again, how does the version number advertise the game any more than the link to play the game does? Isn't that enough? –ultradude25 (T|C) at 23:27, 10 November 2011 (UTC)

Tutorials section not noticeable enough[edit]

I think the link to the Tutorials section should be more obvious, so that newcomers don't just create a wiki page in the main article space that's for non-official game content. I already noticed the problem before, but this incident and this one just raised the issue. The authors didn't know that there was a Tutorials section. I really think the Tutorials section should be made more obvious/noticeable otherwise these things will just continue to happen, and perfectly fine guide/tutorial pages will get deleted for no reason. - Asterick6 07:47, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

I guess I would need more information. I'm not sure how this site could be spreading a virus, unless you are clicking on an ad (if so we need to know which ad), or a third party link. Please provide us more information. Thanks! -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 22:29, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
I looked at some ads and mywot.com, and almost all ads are pornos or vires. NaNdummy

Change around those version numbers on Main Page[edit]

I already made the change on the editcopy, but just reiterating here. It makes sense to put the Current PC and Server versions on top and more visible than the others. Just a thought to make it easier to read. Nickseman 23:30, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
