[edit] Mysterious New Item?

Below the top left painting, there seems to be something else, similar to it... any ideas what it could be? dinnerbonetweet:235742974271700993Cool12309 (talk) 18:58, 15 August 2012 (UTC)

It's the "Item Frame" Item put in itself. Quite recursive... --Kumasasa 19:04, 15 August 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Page Name

Article's name should be Item Frame, not Item frame. (like all other Minecraft blocks, items.) –Preceding unsigned comment was added by Min666645 (Talk|Contribs) 23:49, 16 August 2012‎ (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

I was going to move it, but this might not be what it's actually called when it's released, so to avoid two moves we should just leave it until release. ultradude25 (T|C) at 00:30, 17 August 2012 (UTC)
And of course someone completely ignores the talk and moves the page anyway, breaking the images... ultradude25 (T|C) at 19:26, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Block?

Do we really know the item frame is going to be a block and not an entity like paintings? --☺ Sven ? ! 17:51, 19 August 2012 (UTC)

We don't. Should it be added that it's not known whether it's a block or entity? whizzer0 09:20, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

[edit] "Terrible Trivia"?

This page is a work-in-progress, there was no call for Hower64 to nuke two of the three items we'd accumulated for trivia. And the mountable-clock thing is something that got discussion on the forums. --Mental Mouse 13:48, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

I think they were trying to say that the trivia wasn't confirmed, but was written like it had been. Maybe it should be re-added, but written as if it's unconfirmed? whizzer0 09:17, 23 August 2012 (UTC)
Please note that speculation is not allowed on mainspace articles.--Quatroking - MCWiki Administrator 09:44, 23 August 2012 (UTC)
Sorry for the late response, I didn't see your reply. Trivia is a very icky topic as there is no guidelines on the wiki as to what constitutes good or bad trivia. I've seem some wikis even ban trivia sections entirely because there are no rules preventing people from putting anything in trivia sections, which often leads to disputes whether some trivia should be kept or not. That aside, there are some general guidelines that I think we can all agree on, one of which is noted in the Welcome article.
  • "Try to avoid making a trivia section. If you can, split it up into smaller bits that make it easier to identify info." This means that we should only make trivia sections when entirely unnecessary, most of the time people don't know where to put information so they stuff it in the trivia section.
  • Trivia should not be obvious to anyone who has played Minecraft before or has bothered reading the article at hand. Trivia should also make the reader go "Wow! I did not know that!"
(Note I've taken these general rules from the Team Fortress Wiki's guidelines which are very, very good.)
The reason I removed the mountable clock trivia on the item frame page is because it is obvious to anyone who bothered reading the overview of the article. The other trivia point is best summed up by this guideline taken from the Team Fortress Wiki once again: "Trivia should not state how a characteristic of an item relates to the characteristics of others. This includes, but is not limited to, listing other items that share a certain characteristic, listing items that do not share a certain characteristic, stating that an item is the first or only item to have a certain characteristic, etc. Often, this will be in the form of "This is the first 'X' to ...", "This is the only 'X' to…", or "This is one of 'N' 'X's to...". It is unnecessary to mention that the item frame is the first item to visually display another block because it is already apparent when viewing other block articles. Hower64 10:16, 23 August 2012 (UTC)
* The thing is, any rule from other wikis can only be a guideline here.... Yes, there are many commonalities in the needs of wikis, but there are also individual personalities for different wikis, and this one is fairly low on rules. I think the clock issue specifically is relevant because it adds new functionality (which has been requested on the forums): players can now monitor game time without using a hotbar slot or opening their inventory. By contrast, a wall-mounted compass gives a fixed reading for any given player (admittedly, it reads differently for different players). The wall-mounted map might warrant mention if it also reports player positions, and/or updates in response to clone activities (which I don't know). A third thing that would warrant mention if true, would be if a framed torch (e.g.) illuminated the environs. --Mental Mouse 12:02, 23 August 2012 (UTC)
You are correct, however, this is already clearly stated in the article. It doesn't need to be repeated in the Trivia section. Hower64 12:08, 23 August 2012 (UTC)
Sigh... nolo contendere. --Mental Mouse 13:01, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Frame functionality questions

Come to think of it, there's a bunch of unanswered questions: Does a framed map report player position(s), and does a framed torch shed light? Also, does a framed compass orient on the frame's facing, or the player's? Can a stack be framed? Also, can any passing player pull items out of a frame and put new ones in? That last might be a potential griefing issue. --Mental Mouse 13:01, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

Speaking of torches: I don't think so. If the frame is going to be a block there would need to be a seperate block for "frame with torch" since one block can only have one light level. And if the frame is going to be an entity it wouldn't give off light, too since entities can't produce light. --☺ Sven ? ! 14:05, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Stub?

Is this really a stub anymore? whizzer0 09:16, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Pick block bug?

I don't think it's a bug to get the item in the itemframe when pick blocking it. For convinience. --RedMser 19:51, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Wrong Icon

The Item Frame has wrong icon and it has to be changed. 86.58.59.249 11:27, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Fix it!

Will you fix the item frame kicking the player who placed it in multiplayer?--Bluealex106 12:53, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

Yes, we fixed it with 12w34b. We fixed it, not Mojang, because we make the game since we are the Minecraft Wiki. --☺ Sven ? ! 14:01, 24 August 2012 (UTC)
Lol trolled. Deathgleaner

[edit] Item usage description is incomplete

There is no description on how the player actually puts an item into a frame. Pretty obvious, but should be mentioned for completeness. RadioRoscoe 18:56, 29 August 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Lost brain cells reading this

read this in the trivia

"Placing a water or lava bucket in a frame will sometimes make the water or lava be placed but will have the water/lava bucket in the frame and the water and lava will stay there forever a block update will not make the water flow and the lava will not hurt you or destroy items so you could make a infinite water/lava in a 2x1 space."

What????

Could you put punctuation in please? Perhaps change the wording, whoever wrote this?

Deathgleaner 07:02, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Book reading

Can books not be read/written while on an item frame? This seems like it would be useful to use as a shared log book for inventory or a rule book for new players on a server.

pzich 19:00, 26 October 2012 (UTC)

No it can't, if you right click it the book just rotates. Sorry. 111.249.112.246 12:56, 3 February 2013 (UTC)

[edit] Multiplayer double item frame?

Can the double item frame be done in multiplayer? If it can it would make some pretty awesom signs.--68.117.179.164 18:08, 18 August 2013 (UTC)

[edit] New Stuff About Item Frames

Yesterday somebody suggested on reddit about how to remove items from item frames. http://www.reddit.com/r/minecraftsuggestions/comments/1lcat9/remove_items_from_item_frames/cbxy8ib

Dinnerbone tweeted about the item frame changes, it also shows that you can hover over the frame and view the name. https://twitter.com/Dinnerbone/status/373390930461884416
