Talk:Herobrine

From Minecraft Wiki
Jump to: navigation, search
The following rules are in effect for this talk page.
Continued violations will result in further action.

1. Herobrine is not real.
Topics and posts saying otherwise will be removed.

2. Discussing the fact that he is not real is pointless.
This includes responding to posts breaking #1. These will be removed as well.

3. Do not post stories.
This is a wiki talk page, not a forum. We are dedicated to fact checking and adding further developments, not to indulge in roleplay or ghost stories.

4. Suggestions and ideas to change who he is, how he acts, or other aspects of Herobrine cannot be honored.
The Minecraft Wiki treats the original image and the Brocast livestreams as the only canonical sources.

The Herobrine page was created to document an extremely popular community phenomenon created by an anonymous player and recognized by Mojang.
Herobrine was never real and spamming this talk page saying otherwise is a disservice to the community.
Any changes can be subjected on the editcopy page.

Random short Herobrine segment...

There's a show in Australia called Good Game Spawn Point, and they have these segments called "Ask Good Game" where users can ask questions about games.

In the most recent one, someone asked about the story of Herborine. The story is at http://www.abc.net.au/abc3/goodgamesp/transcripts/s3792041.htm.

The question is asked at 4:07. The actual story of Herobirne starts at about 5:02, and goes until 7:18-ish. Maybe this could be a rather silly idea for one? Just throwing it out there. t numbermaniac c 00:53, 1 July 2013 (UTC)

That's actually almost word-for-word the image story. If it wasn't a branded video from a TV network, that robot segment would be perfect for the article, especially because of the short Minecraft reenactment they added. Sorry for not seeing this earlier. Kanegasi C 12:10, 5 July 2013 (UTC)
how did I miss this? Darn ok. I just thought it would be a nice addition that's kid-friendly too :D. t numbermaniac c 11:59, 9 July 2013 (UTC)

Added. Kanegasi C 20:48, 1 July 2013 (UTC)

I've also seen "Removed Herobrine" on other versions such as 1.5, and 1.4. I'm assuming that for every update that starts with 1. it will say that. –Preceding unsigned comment was added by 108.106.26.229 (talk) 01:31, 10 July 2013‎(UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

Clarification

So, just for clarity, Herobrine is not real, unless you install a mod, and all viewers of him were viewing a seed, mod, or glitch? –Preceding unsigned comment was added by MegaMinecraftWuvvvvver (talkcontribs) 23:21, 10 July 2013 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

Yes; any reported 'sightings' are the result of mods, custom texture packs, custom skins, and/or just making it up. -- Orthotope talk 23:37, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
Ok thanks!--MegaMinecraftWuvvvvver 16:52, 13 July 2013 (UTC)
"Removed Herobrine" is a joke for notch to put in, when he says that he means that he removed some of the coding for the human mob.

Well, I got to say, that (Disc) 11 might make you think he is real, but it really sounds like Steve running away from mobs in a cave. By Sebe579. 71.229.182.90 21:56, 15 March 2014 (UTC)

Herobrine reference in the end credits?

That line at the end of the strange talk or whatever, that says "Wake Up" Is that a reference to the Herobrine hoax? --210.1.204.127 22:02, 22 July 2013 (UTC)

Well, it is actually most likely a coincidence of having that "WAKE UP" reference in both The End poem and the Herobrine Brocraft hoax. I don't know which happened first but I'm sure it's something that we don't need to scratch our heads about. --TeleMinecrafter 16:55, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
I discussed this with the poem's creator. He did not add this due to Herobrine. --Kizzycocoa 17:02, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
I thought I was the only person to notice this!!! Yay!!! Metaphorically spud me bro *fist bump* --80.192.57.98 11:26, 6 April 2014 (UTC)

Herobrine as Player Heads

Herobrine himself doesn't exist, but its head may be obtainable in vanilla Mincraft 1.7 through editing the NBT tag. Mojang has created an account, MHF_Herobrine, for keeping Herobrine's head available. Wbxshiori (talk) 07:52, 27 September 2013 (UTC)

There is also the Herobrine account (a regular player) which has the same skin. —Fenhl 07:54, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
I know it. Herobrine is a player account, but MHF_Herobrine is an official account, totally official. Wbxshiori (talk) 08:08, 27 September 2013 (UTC)

zombie

In Xbox 360, he has arms like the zombie,in the skins.--Minerkid22 (talk) 01:57, 25 October 2013 (UTC)

There is a Zombie Herobrine skin in skin pack 3, maybe the myth comes from a troll someone played on their friends by putting on the skin and hiding in a cave. 82.45.112.204 11:22, 30 November 2013 (UTC)

Update needed of changelog.

See title. Herobrine has been added once again with the releasenotes, this time at Minecraft 1.7.2. See the releasenotes here and as well trough the launcher (which ofcourse shows that same Tumblr page). As well I have a question about the protection of this page. It's already been fully protected for any other edits than those of the admins since 2011. Is it maybe worth trying with edit=autoconfimerd and move=sysop? Maybe then it was a hype, I don't think it still is to be honest. Regards, DdgMC (talk) 20:51, 25 October 2013 (UTC)

Edit: see Herobrine/editcopy too for the change if needed/required. --DdgMC (talk) 20:57, 25 October 2013 (UTC)

Sightings

We could add sightings of Herobrine as they are important, if not, at least interesting. - Mchest83 · Grid Book and Quill.png Grid Wooden Pickaxe.png · 07:14, 26 October 2013 (UTC)

All 'sightings' are fake or caused by mods, so they are neither important nor interesting. -- Orthotopetalk 10:48, 26 October 2013 (UTC)

Minecon Goodie Bag

Herobrine was in the MineCon goodie bag as a paper craft thing. Maybe add that to the page? ISmile02 (talk) 20:13, 10 November 2013 (UTC)

Question

Could the original Herobrine video by Brocraft be a reference to an old glitch in pre-classic? There was a glitch that made human mobs have white eyes (I was playing an early version of Minecraft earlier). Meeples10t ~ c 23:06, 11 November 2013 (UTC)

There is no glitch that does so. --Oreowan (talk) 22:07, 1 December 2013 (UTC)
The video/stream was inspired by the creepypasta image. Whether or not the creepypasta image is related to the human mobs remains a mystery, since the version on the screenshot doesn't exist and there's absolutely no way of proving or knowing who made the image. There is nothing ingame even remotely related to Herobrine. Kanegasi C 23:17, 1 December 2013 (UTC)
The glitch I mentioned is a normal lighting glitch, it just makes human mobs seem to have white eyes. The body flashes dark, and the head flashes light, so the off-white eyes seem to turn white. The "pupils" on the skin turn light enough that they are nearly invisible. Meeples10t ~ c 11:40, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
That quite possibly could be the inspiration of the creepypasta creator, but beyond that, we'll never know. Kanegasi C 18:01, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

Another quick question. Just being curious, why isn't Alpha 1.0.16_02 available on the new launcher? 1adog1 (talk) 03:31, 28 February 2014 (UTC)

Because it doesn't exist; the version number on the creepypasta image was edited. -- Orthotopetalk 03:59, 28 February 2014 (UTC)

"Microword"

In the cameos section, it says that Herobrine appears in the "Microword" instruction book. Shouldn't it be Microworld? PTR_91 (Talk) 03:02, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

Fixed. -- Orthotopetalk 03:39, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

Strange thing about Herobrine being a ghost in the community...

I found it strange that in the community, Herobrine is portrayed as the ghost of a dead miner, however, how he died, or his personality before his death is not referred to, I made my own story with these, but I'm not posting it, what do you think, is his death story strange not to be referred to, or does it not need to be? –Preceding unsigned comment was added by 92.19.19.81 (talk) 15:45, 9 February 2014(UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

I imagine we will never truly know. neither official source refer to the origins.
That said, as he is a miner, I imagine it's something to do with lava, creepers or a cave-in. as ghosts are, typically, created through traumatic events, it's possible for any of them. hell, maybe even an issue with the End. his glowing eyes could be likened to Endermen eyes. --Kizzycocoa 19:33, 30 March 2014 (UTC)

there is no way there can be a herobrine mojang never put him in there and hackers don't know how to put new mobs and there is usually more then just one of the mobs –Preceding unsigned comment was added by Endermankiller200 (talkcontribs) 02:32, 1 April 2014 (UTC). Trivia

Proposed changes to a piece of trivia on the page. Tweets from Marc confirming the state of the account and also a minor grammatical change in the last sentence.

There is a user called Herobrine registered on the Minecraft servers. The account is a full account (meaning they have bought Minecraft after registering).<ref>{{tweet|Marc_IRL|214883116962152448}}</ref><ref>{{tweet|Marc_IRL|237655773025533952}}</ref> The owner of the account is unknown. They have not visited [[MineCon]] using the Herobrine username, due to their lack of a cloak texture.

Maxamillion1998 (talk) 07:28, 22 April 2014 (UTC)

Anyone think that we should put something about Herobrine's name being really similar to Heroine, the girl version of hero? --AbsolX (talk) 02:22, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

Unless someone at Mojang has said something about it, no. -- Orthotopetalk 06:39, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

Pronounciation

The section on how to pronounce Herobrine is unclear. It says europeans pronounce the first half "hero" while americans pronounce it "hiro". Those are the same pronounciations! Also they require you to be familiar with the Japanese name Hiro otherwise you'd think it meant "High-row". I think they meant europeans pronounce it "hair-o" and americans pronounce it "hear-o". Someone might want to change it (it's protected from edits right now). WildBluntHickok (talk) 02:41, 22 June 2014 (UTC)

Mojang reactions

Notch has once again acknowledged the existence of Herobrine. After making a statement in response to the recent fiasco regarding the EULA and monetization of Minecraft servers, Notch writes,

also herobrine is not real please stop asking argh

Is this also the first time that Notch appears to be annoyed by the idea of Herobrine?

--Thunders33 (talk) 07:59, 24 June 2014 (UTC)

Jeb's emailing of Notch everyday

Jeb tweeted about emailing Notch only about Herobrine. The tweet features text that can be attributed to the common "I don't usually... but when I do" meme, pointing to how Jeb emails Notch every day about Herobrine, and contains an image link of the automated reply Notch sends if the email has a mention of Herobrine.

It's not every day I email @notch, but when I do, it's about Herobrine http://i.imgur.com/dBsHyAF.png

In response, Notch tweeted:

@jeb_ haha oops

Possible Brocraft stream found

http://web.archive.org/web/20130701000000*/http://www.livestream.com/minecrafterryday/video?clipId=pla_30d1b597-bc86-45c5-83d6-30527e2fd85e

When looking at the herobrine page, I noticed the absense of the stream. I thus went to the internet wayback machine. Because I was on moblie, I can't tell if the stream was saved or not, but there is a chance!

Player "Herobrine"

A player called Herobrine is proven exist however and is active according to a website called the minecraft server list. The player has never visted
Minecon. I also have proof that the minecraft server list website is general to some extent. The website monitors players, skins and servers and one of
my friends ZombieSheepRule changed his skin and the skin changed. He went on the goldcraft server. I am not 100% sure but it is pretty likely I think.
I have been on a server with Herobrine logged on called VoiceChatAlpha, but I never saw him. Supposedly Notch and youtubers were on this server but are
not on there anymore. The server website is www.voicechatalpha.com. I had to access a cached copy of the website to download the software to go on it.
Here is the URL to Herobrine on the MC Server list: http://theminecraftserverlist.com/player/Herobrine. Link to Notch:
http://theminecraftserverlist.com/player/Notch. I noticed that Notch and Herobrine go on some of the same servers at the same time on the server list,
but I would like someone to prove the website is genuine or not please, if it is not genuine I will remove this. Please pass this on and put this on
youtube if possible. I have taken a video of this so no one can claim to of written this. R.S. (Player: AttackOfTheDirt)

i know that this might be stupid but its about Herobrine

Ok so why is it that Notch is saying that herobrine is not real then why is there in the update 1.7.2 it says *Removed Herobrine. If this is a hoax and you guys just put that there for fun do not complain when people email you or post stuff on the forums –Preceding unsigned comment was added by MisterTaco911 (talkcontribs) at 18:15, 30 July 2014‎ (UTC). It is extremely likely it has been mentioned already on the page, and it's just a joke they do often. - MinecraftPhotos4U (talk) 21:04, 30 July 2014 (UTC)

Pleas help

I am confused, and scared. I know Herobrine doesn't exist, but I can't seem to get one of my little cousins to stop saying that the people who claim he's not real were lying. Could someone please tell me what kind of mods have been know to cause Herobrine appearances. I want to make sure that he doesn't have any of those mods installed. Also, if he does, I don't want him claiming he's real just because he saw him on a modded game. He's not old enough to understand coding so I can't explain to him what a mod is or how the mod may have cause the sighting. Could someone help me help him? I really don't want him getting into trouble because of this. Please help. Brickticks (talk) 18:17, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

Simply check his game for mods (see launcher), and/or show him the page. If he continues then.., er, umm.... - MinecraftPhotos4U (talk) 18:43, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

Notch claiming that Herobrine is "real"

This is what Notch posted on his twitter page around 2 months ago:

Fine, Herobrine is real, and he gains spooky vengeance haunting power whenever you remind me of him. Only way to stop him is to ignore him.

Breif Herobrine Video

This video is 1 minute and covers Herobrine and what there is to know about him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPTKtrD81Pw

Proposed edit (since I can't edit directly): change "pronounciation" section so it makes sense

Pronounciation section says "europeans pronounce the first half 'hero' while north americans pronounce it 'hiro'". That's the same pronounciation to many people. It should say "europeans pronouce it 'hair-o', north americans pronounce it 'hear-o'". EDIT: oh looks like I already proposed this once before... WildBluntHickok (talk) 03:53, 23 August 2014 (UTC)

Minecraft 1.8

According to the change log, Herobrine was "removed" in version 1.8 final. Can an admin edit the page to add that? --BrandSPim (Need help?) 15:29, 2 September 2014 (UTC)

Notch's Brother

Under "What Herobrine is" it says "While this is the "canon", this is also completely false in reality, as Notch has no brother." Perhaps it is worth clarifying that while he has no blood-brothers, he does indeed have his brother-in-law, Kristoffer? XxToxicSpikesxX (talk) 01:37, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
