Multiplayer[edit | edit source]

Does anyone know how these chests react in smp? do they have different contents for each player, like the piggy bank in terraria, or do they have different slots for each player? -- 16:09, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

About the mod.[edit | edit source]

Where does Jeb mention that he got the idea from a mod? Because I think this is just another act in the play "omg mojang steals all mods and never credits anyone!!11!11oneeleven". They don't. It's just that there are three billion mods out there, and if Jeb implemented crafting grass blocks with dirt and seeds for example, 300 people would say "omg but i made this mod u stole my idea!!". Portable Storage[edit | edit source]

I can see it now; no longer will peoples inventories be filled with junk, they will just have a Ender chest on them, and place there goodies in them, and recollect it and take it back out in their base. Portable inventory!!!

It's like that on purpose to balance the chests. Also how would it even work? If you place a single chest while also having a double chest, you won't be able to access half of the chest. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 18:11, 25 May 2012 (UTC)
thankyou pogoman, i just spent ages trying to explain this to a friend in minecraft. also, the page says the chests can be places adjacent to one another, but what would be the point? all enderchests will have the exact same inventory
one way it could work is if you had a full double enderchest, you could recheave your stuff from a single chest, but wouldn't put anything in unless the balance excess was eliminated, but that would be complicated. or, of course, they could just make enderchests bigger, which would be cool 08:35, 2 October 2012 (UTC) fluttershy

Intentionally Beneficial Drawback?[edit | edit source]

Maybe the reason the Chests are not player specific is to allow trade of the newly introduced emeralds. Yeah, and I'm gonna go look-up at the Multiplayer section of this "Talk," see what they think. One thing I can say here: Trading ideally is between a set-number of traders, at a time, whether it's 1-on-1 (most player trade, all NPC trade Unless multiple people can trade with the same NPC, and even the same things, at the same time..?), or multiple-on-1 (a "market" for a certain "stock," and /or "supply," of something). IF people are "honest," then Yes you are right a group of online friends can in-theory then trade Anything MC via an Ender Chest system. Clarification[edit | edit source]

"By default, each server has one persistent Ender Chest inventory. This means that the player can not create or find an Ender Chest utilizing a different inventory of items than another."

There is only one Ender Chest inventory for the entire server. There is no vanilla way to crease a second Ender Chest inventory. Hope that clears it up :D LightRod 5 June 2012 (UTC)

Obsidian[edit | edit source]

If you haven't installed a snapshot, you're probably using the last official release (1.2.5). Ender chests will be in the 1.3 release, but are currently only in development snapshots. -- Orthotope 07:01, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

The installation process is not very well documented here on the wiki. See this post on the Mojang blog for a reasonably good explanation. -- Orthotope 07:58, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Minecraft Snapshot Week 24[edit | edit source]

What are everyone's opinions on the enderchests drawback? I myself would prefer something else, as eyes of ender are a bit tricky to gather. I can understand it for SMP, but in SSP, i don't see much point in it. A better drawback would be, to collect it, it requires a diamond pick, and takes as long to mine as obsidian. I think the previous drawback was better, where a server had 1 inventory for everyone. Ender Eyes are too difficult to find. They've basically invented a new way of storage for the game and now they've ruined it 18:18, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

  • Eyes of Ender are replaceable. That level 30 triple enchanted diamond sword I had to put in the chest so I could jump off the side of The End to escape is not. I'd rather have there be a cost for moving the chest (only without Silk Touch, which seriously isn't hard to get) than have other players take items I worked hard to craft. --King Starscream 22:13, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Eyes of Ender ARE a renewable resource, but, I myself do not enjoy trips to the Nether and The End constantly for Blaze Rods and Ender Pearls. Having the Ender Chest drop as an item instead of 8 Obsidian does not stop you from saving valuables, and I would rather not carry a silk touch pick everywhere I go. Keep the silk touch pick in the Ender chest.... Or pearls and obsidian to make a new chest. I suspect the drawback is simply to keep the chests from being too portable. --Mental Mouse 16:17, 12 October 2012 (UTC)

Ender chests as diaries[edit | edit source]

On multiplayer, ender chests are per person inventoy. mix that with written books and books with quills and you can make a diary.

Whatever you want it tt to be. like a calender or log.

It stores the data of who opened the chest, and if the opener isn't the saved name or player, it spawns a ghast. :P Funky3000 12:56, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

He meant a mixture of a normal chest and an ender chest. The contents of a supposed nether chest would be accessible anywhere, but by anyone, like a normal chest. While that is a neat idea, it's just a single chest shared by the entire server. Normal chests are a dime a dozen and ender chests are per player, so server size means nothing, but this "nether chest" idea will get progressively bad the larger a server's playerbase is, and altering this in any way would just make a weird spin-off of an ender chest. --Kanegasi C 03:41, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

multi-person chests.[edit | edit source]

It would be awesome it they made two chests, one that's player specific and one that's shared between all players, Have the default one created by recipe be the player-specific one, and then make another recipe which would take the player-specific chest and turn it into a shared chest (and make the recipe reversible). One anoying thing you run into on vanilla servers is when someone wants to borrow a lot of some simple resource like cobble or sand for building, it can take a long ass time to transport several inventories worth of an item to where you need it. 16:03, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

The problem would be that any player with such a chest could rob it.... What you really want is player-specific sharing. But, implementation aside, that sort of long-distance "shipping" would be a major balance change. I think that the Enderchest can cause a HUGE problem for multiplayer servers...

Actually, a network of Ender chests is different for each player. Because of this, hoppers and droppers cannot interact with Ender chests. Also, please sign your posts with ~~~~ 23:48, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

Another possible usage[edit | edit source]

Another usage that is not mentioned in the article (and maybe should be): in railway systems. Place an Ender Chest on every station and put a single minecart in it. Then you come to any station, pull the minecart out, travel to another place, put return it to the chest. You will never have a station without a minecart again.

Ive heard the storage space that the items are kept in known colloquially as the 'Endernet' This could be a possible way to refer to where the items are when there are no chests placed down - Benjabby 14:26, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

You know, I was wondering if placing an Ender chest after all the Ender chests in he world, then placing one and opening it could result in finding items inside. I play pocket edition, so I can't test this myself. 23:42, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

Map Creation[edit | edit source]

We've heard about ender chests for SMP but what about downloadable maps. If I put my map up for download will the next player to use it get what I left in the ender chest? Are those Items now shared if the world is opened to LAN?--JMSterling (talk) 01:31, 25 February 2014 (UTC)

Ender chests always show an inventory unique to the current player, no matter how they got there. For SSP maps, that is the same as the player who downloaded it I believe, but for multiplayer maps it won't be shared. --GufNZ (c: (talk) 02:41, 25 February 2014 (UTC)
