End gateway block[]

I was thinking of making a page on the End gateway block itself, seeing as you can use it as a custom teleporter using the setback command (e.g. /setblock ~ ~3 ~ end_gateway 0 replace {ExitPortal:{X:500,Y:70,Z:2043}}. Should this be its own page or part of the Technical Blocks page? GoandgooTalk

I would personally give it its own page, as the technical blocks article is overly cluttered (plus it has been pending split for awhile). I am a little unsure if it has enough content on its own, but I would not bury that information on an already cluttered article.
To prevent redundancy, it should be easy enough to have this article focus on its survival applications (generation, how locations are chosen, etc.), while the block explains more advance mechanics, such as its exit location, block ID, etc. KnightMiner t/c 14:47, 1 August 2015 (UTC)

Beam Colors[]

I've looked in the source (class bkb for 15w31c) but could only see a reference for magenta and yellow. That is, if "Life" is between 0 and 199, the beam is "magenta" (not "purple"), otherwise the beam is "yellow" (colors are from class zz). I couldn't find anything concerning "green" or "lime", as stated on the page, and am wondering if somebody could help me locate any reference to it or if there is some sort of technical/rendering issue causing the beam to appear a different color than is intended. I'm colorblind so I would much prefer a response concerning the source rather than through images. Skylinerw (talk) 12:22, 3 August 2015 (UTC)

I can't get a green beam in any snapshot, no matter what entity I put in the portal. The screenshot of a 'green' beam doesn't seem to match a beacon with lime glass above it; it looks to me more like a yellow beam with a low brightness setting. Unless someone can provide a reliable method of producing a green beam, I'm inclined to remove mentions of it from the page. -- Orthotopetalk 22:23, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
I tried to replicate this several times through many different methods, since I had gotten noticeably green beams before, but strangely they stopped appearing. I have a feeling that you're right, it's probably just a trick on the eyes. It might have to do with how light works in the end (the end is a lot dimmer), so it gives the beam a green-looking appearance. Either that or the developers are messing with us. I'll remove the reference of green beams until there is some solid proof of their existence. Thanks. Superspace (talk) 23:36, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
I was able to replicate it like this: I surrounded the end gateway on all four sides with three droppers and another block. I put the droppers on a timer to periodically drop items through. When the items went through the beam was dark green (screenshot: http://imgur.com/umkQlei). I then removed the other block (lapis lazuli in these screenshots, but the block type doesn't seem to matter), and it turned back to yellow (http://imgur.com/ZTpEotI). The colours are clearly different, I didn't adjust any lighting settings or anything in between. --109.159.56.134 04:17, 19 October 2015 (UTC)
Then that is a result of lighting. By encasing the gateway completely, it'll be at light level 0, which will darken the beam (you can do this for beacons as well to see it in action, in that it turns black for a split second before disappearing). It being yellow is intended, being darker is just light levels at work. Skylinerw (talk) 05:43, 19 October 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply, that makes sense. --109.159.56.134 07:14, 19 October 2015 (UTC)

Return portal[]

Can anybody attest that return portals exist, that are supposed to be a 1.11 upcoming thing? I've been scooting around the End looking for them, and while I've found all kinds of End cities, I haven't seen a return portal yet. – Sealbudsman talk/contr 17:48, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

I can confirm that I was able to find one, but they don't seem to be that common. Seed: -6549889454106593879. Coords: -4174/63/268 DelboyDylan (talk) 18:29, 6 October 2016 (UTC)
I went to your coordinates in a world newly generated in 16w40a, nothing is there. Do you remember what version generated that chunk, and from what direction did you approach the chunk? – Sealbudsman talk/contr 17:30, 10 October 2016 (UTC)
Well that's odd, if you teleport straight to it, it doesn't generate. Try teleporting to -4021/57/523, and head north-west towards the End City. You should see a purple beacon beyond it where the return portal is located. This is in 16w40a. DelboyDylan (talk) 17:59, 10 October 2016 (UTC)
Man. Yeah, I tried teleporting straight there, coming at it from the south. It looks like a side-effect of one of their probably-unsolvable issues: MC-55596.
Anyway, great! I was starting to wonder. – Sealbudsman talk/contr 20:41, 10 October 2016 (UTC)

About the supposed chance to instantly cast a user into the void[]

Does anyone have any evidence for or against this supposed phenomenon, and who was it who first typed of it onto this page? --Lapsem (talk) 09:10, 9 July 2020 (UTC)

Not the original author. Anecdotal thoughts on my end here, Bedrock Edition in VR. Dedicated Alpha server, me and another player threw a pearl into the portal. They landed on land, I ported to void. I came back and tried again, same result. --Anon

Positions of generation inaccurate for 1.14 and greater?[]

I generated end gateways in 1.14 and they didn't line up with the coordinates in the table, ie. (-30, 75, -92) instead of (-29, 75, -91), (-78, 75, 56) instead of (-77, 75, 56). I generated the gateways in a 1.12 world, then updated to 1.14, and regenerated the gateways over the old ones by editing the NBT tags in level.dat and killing the dragon again, and sure enough, the 1.14 gateways generated 1 block off the 1.12 gateways.– Unsigned comment added by 174.44.43.91 (talk) at 17:15, 24 March 2021 (UTC). Do "extra" gateways still spawn among the islands in 1.17?[]

I did my first dragon fight and End Island in 1.16. When I explored the islands, there were several gateways scattered about aside from the one I'd gotten there through. I just did a second dragon fight and explored around a new gateway... and I'm pretty sure I haven't seen one gateway aside from the one I came in through. Has anyone else been exploring new islands in 1.17? --MentalMouse42 (talk) 01:48, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
