Pumpkin Seeds will grow a central stem, that grows to max size before spawning a Pumpkin next to it. The stem can be grown to full size with Bone Meal, and will spawn a Pumpkin shortly thereafter. Similar to Melon Seeds, Pumpkin Seeds can only be planted on hoed soil, however, vines will spawn pumpkins on both farmland and soil.
Seeds can be obtained by harvesting a fully grown stem or by placing a pumpkin in a crafting grid. For more farming information, see Pumpkin.
Pumpkin seeds can be used to breed chickens. However, unlike grass/wheat seeds, chickens will not follow you when you have them equipped. This helps when entering and exiting your chicken coop, because chickens will be less likely to follow you through an open gate.
