Gamepedia issues

Have you found a problem since the migration? Have problems with your username?

Report it here

We will be addressing individual user merge issues next week. Sorry for the delay, but we are working on the mass problems first.

KNOWN ISSUES

Please read this before posting your issue

Broken userpages
Something went awry with our usermerge script. Our dev team is working on a solution. In the meantime, DO NOT edit your userpage (old or new) as this will create problems when they do try to fix it. This should be fixed on the English, Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish and Russian wikis. If you still have issues with your userpages not appearing correctly, post it on this page and it will be addressed on an individual level.
Broken articles
If you find an article that gives you the error "The database did not find the text of a page that it should have found,..." simply click on Edit and then save the page. This should fix it.

Account Migration issues

Today I received an Email from noreply@curse.com saying my account failed to automatically migrate to Curse's central system due to a naming conflict, and my account was renamed. I was told that the next time I log in I would be asked to claim an existing account or choose a new name. However, I cannot remember my password, and the password reset system says my Email Address is not in the database. It clearly IS in the database, or I wouldn't have received the Email. I also suspect that creating a new account will cause both another naming conflict and an Email Address conflict. At least it would be, if I could get past an error message when creating a new account that simply says " <asirra-edit> ." In fact, asirra-edit seems to be a common theme on account creation/login pages.

  • Odd. I got an email from them saying my account was merged successfully, mainly because I manually merged it as soon as it was migrated to the new Gamepedia platform. --KamranMackey (talk) 19:07, 20 September 2013 (UTC)

I used be Hawk777 on the old Minecraft wiki. Now that name is taken on Curse. In the merge form, I choose option 1, choose username or update e-mail. I enter username Hawk778 instead. I get back a message “Sorry, there was a problem merging your account into our central database. Please try again later or contact an administrator for assistance. [Error #1004 - User Merge Add]”. This message apparently doesn’t mean the username is taken, as if I choose Hawk777 instead I get a different error.

User merge issues

"The next time you log into Minecraft Wiki you will be asked to claim an existing Curse.com account"

It did not happen to me. How can I merge? Tiripon (talk) 13:30, 20 September 2013 (UTC)

The best thing to try is to go to Special:CurseUserMerge. We had some hiccups during the merge process due to a cascading failure at our data center. If you continue to have problems, please reply and let us know and we will do our best to get you sorted out. Btarsa (talk) 15:28, 20 September 2013 (UTC)

Userboxes

Becuase Userboxes are on Userpages a lot of them have been broken. Someone needs to find some way to fix this.--007a83 (Talk|Contribs) 13:20, 20 September 2013 (UTC)

Can you give me an example or two? For cases where a user has assumed a new username because of the merge, people using boxes from that user's space may have to update their links accordingly. Btarsa (talk) 15:30, 20 September 2013 (UTC)
It's because many users had the random number issue, where their entire userspace was moved to their name with a random number in it. Uness something can be dealt with server side, we may have to manually find the users who experienced this and move their spaces back. User:Kanegasi User talk:KanegasiUser:Kanegasi/ec 18:32, 20 September 2013 (UTC)
This is a total bottom of the list priority. Please do not do anything until we can fix the broken userpages. Thanks. -- :en:User:Wynthyst Image:User Wynthyst sig icon.png :en:User talk:Wynthyst 18:53, 20 September 2013 (UTC)
This issue "should" be resolved as users login and get their accounts merged with Curse accounts. We can look at the issue again after a reasonable period of time and move the userboxes to more appropriate places -- :en:User:Wynthyst Image:User Wynthyst sig icon.png :en:User talk:Wynthyst 06:50, 22 September 2013 (UTC)

Century Link Problem

In German Wiki we have a lot of users with numbers in their new username. What is the best way to deal with this? -Sumpfhütte 93.214.224.42 15:57, 20 September 2013 (UTC)

These are probably accounts that did not merge correctly. Please try /Spezial:CurseUserMerge and see if that can resolve the problem. If not, maybe provide us with a clear example so we can look into it, thanks. Btarsa (talk) 16:05, 20 September 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. Personally I have no problem - I like to help others. Currently I'm logged in. If I try "Spezial:CurseUserMerge" (without Slash) I get this message: "Account Merge Error - The provided merge key was invalid or has expired. Please go back and log in again." Is this only working if not logged in? Would it be dangerous if I try it (because I'm already successfully merged)? 93.214.224.42 16:17, 20 September 2013 (UTC)
Now several Users just moved all their pages and subpages to the old username. Is this okay or has it effects on MediaWiki-references? 93.214.224.42 16:22, 20 September 2013 (UTC)
You say to TheWombatGuru: "In the meantime, please do not edit your userpage (old or new/non-existent)." Does this mean, the manual move of the own user pages from wrong (with numbers) to right (without numbers) is not okay? 93.214.224.42 16:44, 20 September 2013 (UTC)
When they will fix it, that will be causing problems I think, maybe you could copy the pages that hey have moved manually to an offline word document, so when it gets corrupted or something like that, you can just copy it back? -- User:TheWombatGuru User talk:TheWombatGuru | Special:Contribs/TheWombatGuru NL Admin 16:46, 20 September 2013 (UTC)
Yes, its an issue that when we try to fix the problem, if there is other text on the destination page it can cause problems. Either we can work to fix it, or you can move/re-create the userpage, but not both. If you would prefer to have your user page migrated by us, please leave the "new" userpage blank. The user merge page will only work for folks who are not merged, if you have already merged sucessfully it will give you that error. CRSBenjamin - (talk) File:User_Wynthyst_sig_icon.png 16:51, 20 September 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for your answer and your hard work to fix this not-Curse-related problem. I understood this: you try to fix the problem for all users in all wikis automatically. Users who already recreated their old user page (the one without numbers) will be skipped by the automatic correction. Did I understand this correctly? 93.214.224.42 17:30, 20 September 2013 (UTC)
Are users who already recreated their old user page (the one without numbers) just skipped by the automatic correction? 93.214.246.71 19:51, 20 September 2013 (UTC)

Ugh. I hate this account merging crap. ALWAYS a hassle. And the message I got to do it sent me to the Netherlands wiki. So, despite having changed my password it still isn't letting me log in. I got the '<asirra-edit>' message too. --24.164.3.244 16:20, 20 September 2013 (UTC)

Its a hassle for us too, trust me :-) Just head on over to Special:CurseUserMerge. Let me know if you have any problems after trying that. Btarsa (talk) 16:28, 20 September 2013 (UTC)

MediaWiki-Search doesn't work any more

In German Wiki the search-function doesn't work any more. For example, I like to see all pages which contain the word "wikipedia". The only answer is like "no result - create this page". Before the migration there was a list of all pages which contain the search-word. What can I do? 93.214.246.71 19:32, 20 September 2013 (UTC)

We are now using Sphinx search. Unfortunately, there are some issues with it, it takes a long time to build the library, but we have no option here it was a change required by people much higher in the food chain than me. There will most likely continue to be issues with the search for awhile. -- :en:User:Wynthyst Image:User Wynthyst sig icon.png :en:User talk:Wynthyst 19:37, 20 September 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the answer. (I know this food-chain-problems very well). Now: does this mean I just have to wait until the library is complete? How long this may take, days, weeks? --Sumpfhütte 93.214.246.71 19:47, 20 September 2013 (UTC)
Does this mean I'll just have to wait some days?? 93.214.246.71 20:27, 20 September 2013 (UTC)
Pretty much. If the problems persist, we can look at forcing a rebuild, but that's not always successful. :en:User:Wynthyst Image:User Wynthyst sig icon.png :en:User talk:Wynthyst 20:31, 20 September 2013 (UTC)

Unfortunately it doesn't work. I waited three days after the "works now" rendition, because previously MediaWiki took some time to update things. And really, there is a minor effect to see. Three days ago my example-search-word "wikipedia" brought 3 results, now there are five. But before the migration I started to work on the German "commands" article and made a note that the search-word "befehl" (command) was found 62 times. I need all these results for my work. But now the search is listing only the article-page and nothing more. Search for "block": two results. For "item": one. It should be hundreds. I'll just continue patiently with waiting, but I wanted to say, the problem is not resolved. Sumpfhütte --93.214.235.26 09:44, 24 September 2013 (UTC)
Hopefully you can help me. As a wiki author I need a working search-function. Before the migration I noticed that the search-function didn't really show all results so I appreciate a new and better search-function. But the new search really don't work even one week after the migration. Try Special:Search, type e.g. "block" and click "Everything". The result is a page named "Block" an one additional result. One! It should be hundreds. Interesting point: at the right side of the page it says: "Result 1 of 1,616,648 for block" - strange... I waited several days because you said a library must be built. I noticed that some day more results where shown than the day before (but far not enough), and the next day... less! - strange... Do you have any information for me how this could be solved? It must not be immediately if you have more important issues, but one week after the migration I have a long list of things which I need to fix in the wiki texts - if the search would only work. Even Google shows more results than the wiki (e.g. if you google for "minecraft.gamepedia.com block") Sumpfhuette (talk) 17:00, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
We have had many issues/complaints about Sphinx Search. It's generally not as thorough as even the default search, but we have no choice. It was dictated to us to use it. That being the case we will continue to try to make it better as time allows. -- :en:User:Wynthyst Image:User Wynthyst sig icon.png :en:User talk:Wynthyst 17:20, 26 September 2013 (UTC)

User page showing second newest revision after editing

Nice to see the Wiki is running. I tried to update a template on my user page. I changed the lines "| version = 1.3" to "| version = 1.3.1" and "| minecraft version = 1.6.2" to "| minecraft version = 1.6.4" near the bottom of the source of the page. When I saved the page, it still displayed the page as it was pre-edit. I pressed Edit again, and the source displayed "1.3.1" and "1.6.4" as I wanted. I did a minor change to the page again, and this time the page correctly displayed "1.3.1" and "1.6.4" from the first edit, however the latest edit was not displayed. I pressed Edit and Save, then the last edit appeared as well. It seems to me as this is a bug, I hope it can be corrected :) Bilde2910 (talk) 13:59, 22 September 2013 (UTC)

I used Shift+F5 (Chrome) to refresh the page several times. Shift+F5 will force a reload, ignoring cache. There was no change until I re-edited the page. Null edits work, but it's really annoying having to do one every time I want to edit a page :( Also, when I edit this issue page, the changes show up immediately, whereas on the user template I referenced, it does not. The bug is back, tried both F5 and Ctrl+Shift+R, changes keep not showing up. Also created a new page in Chrome, edited it (changes not showing), then opened it in Firefox, changes still not showing. This is a wiki bug. Bilde2910 (talk) 14:19, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

Capitalization in Username

On the Minecraft Forums my name is in lower-case, and that's the way I like it. On this wiki, it is in upper-case for the first letter of my name. I don't know if this was intended, but could you please override it somehow to be in all lower case? Awsmazinggenius (talk) 03:50, 26 September 2013 (UTC)

This is not a Gamepedia migration issue, this is a common limitation of the wiki software. There is no way to force a lowercase first letter for usernames or articles. There is formatting code to display a lowercase first letter on your userpage, as well as your signature on talk pages, but it is just for show. User:Kanegasi User talk:KanegasiUser:Kanegasi/ec 23:36, 22 September 2013 (UTC) |}

I just have a feeling that this will be a problem for other users. In the next update, can you please implement this?

No there's nothing to implement. This is a core limitation in the MediaWiki software. It is impossible for you to have a lower case letter at the beginning of your username, or of any article (page) on this wiki. So regardless of what your personal preferences are, or anyone else's this is not something that is going to change.... unless and until the developers of MediaWiki change it (which I don't see happening). Thus this topic is going to be marked as resolved again. -- :en:User:Wynthyst Image:User Wynthyst sig icon.png :en:User talk:Wynthyst 05:08, 26 September 2013 (UTC)

Problem with a large amount of Ajax loaded pages

I was trying to look at a schematic for a cobblestone generator, and all I got was something that looked like this:

{{
#for
|
}}

There's also a small frame that didn't fit it. Looked at a few others, and it seems that most schematics (like the various redstone circuits) are having this problem. The schematics themselves still show up when I go to edit the page, but since I'm new here I'm not sure what is what and don't want to toy with the pages.

Triple Factorial (talk) 21:29, 25 September 2013 (UTC)

Schematics do not show on any browser. Some weird text shows instead.

Since the migration of this site, all schematics show up as the exact same rectangluar set of hyphens, dashes and slashes and some cut-off "#f" message in the middle. This renders all the very helpful pages that we had before on red stone circuits useless (note: also see nether reactor build schematic, still screwed up as of 8pm ET 9/26). I have copied and pasted the rectangular section. The paste doesn't show it the same but certainly what it shows is no schematic. {{ #fornumargs: z-index | param | }} –Preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.227.32.223 (talk) 22:44, 25 September 2013‎(UTC). "Since the migration of this site" -- No, everything was fine after the migration occurred; this is very recent (today or yesterday).
I've tried doing a null edit of {{Schematic}} and cleared my cache, as described above (big red text), but that doesn't seem to have helped.

Possibly related: The collapsed videos (e.g., in the Iron Golem Farm tutorial) are showing up as similar garbage:

| {{#loop: column | 0 | 0 | }}}}
-- User talk:Numbermaniac User:Numbermaniac Special:Contribs/Numbermaniac 01:43, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
Tutorials/Iron golem farming has cleared up overnight (at least the videos there). On Iron Golem it's specifically the "Iron Golem build configuration." panel that's broken. Template:Schematic/examples is still broken.
FYI, I originally opened this issue. I confirm that by doing an edit and saving (modifying nothing), it is fixing the issue. At least for me anyway. You have to do it for each page, but its working. –Preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.227.32.223 (talk) 14:30, 26 September 2013‎(UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

Please repair the Search-function

I dont't give up asking you to repair the Wiki search function. So please don't give up too! I understood that the new search wasn't your idea, but nevertheless would it be very nice if you could HELP us. Five weeks after the migration, and we can't use the search. Is there any workaround? Do you have any idea what we can do to find all pages which contain a certain word? Current example: the german translation for the Minecraft "command block" has been changed. Now we have to adjust all pages, where this word occurs. But how could we find them? The Wiki search says: "There are 4 results" and shows NOTHING. No result appears! To be precise, the problem's this: We renamed a bunch of Grid files, and now there's this one page that still uses the old file 'Grid Chest.png'. We'd update the page if we could get to it. Unfortunately, while it's obviously in the database (as the page is linked from :de:Special:Special:WantedFiles), it's unreachable. I suspect it's due to the fact that the username ends with an underscore - something MediaWiki usually doesn't like. It seems to have worked before the migration, though. --CalebBlackhand (talk) 15:51, 12 November 2013 (UTC)

Search result count is broken

When you search for something, the search result total is weirdly high. In the case of a search for the word "example", you see "Results 1 - 2 of 4,714 for example", which makes no sense. Pokechu22 (talk) 01:38, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

Search is completely broken. See all the previous threads on this page.
For now, use google with site:minecraft.gamepedia.com. Google can't limit searches to specific namespaces, but it's something.

Ok, that works. But maybe you could put a big "BROKEN!" sign on the search page? Pokechu22 (talk) 23:16, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

Catblocked

Could we limit turing tests for posting external links to IPs and fewer-than-10-edit users?

munin · 16 px 16 px · 08:50, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

External links already are limited to "fewer-than-10-edit" users, which includes both registered and IPs. This is by the AbuseFilter and has nothing to do with the migration. Every external link complaint is by a user with less than 10 edits. Although, since the addition of the AntiBot extension, spam has been cut off overnight. There's literally a noticeable break in the Abuse Log and I've considered bringing up the suggestion of lifting the external link filter since it was really for the constant spam flood. Judging by the title, I expect munin is talking about the ASIRRA filter. MattTalk

Oh, the cat CAPTCHA check. "Catblocked" flew right over my head. User:Kanegasi User talk:KanegasiUser:Kanegasi/ec 09:26, 6 December 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, I've been getting CAPTCHA'ed too, quite annoying. --MentalMouse42 (talk) 14:02, 6 December 2013 (UTC)
It's really annoying, sometimes it's not even possible to see the difference between a cat and a dog... They both have 4 paws... -- User:TheWombatGuru User talk:TheWombatGuru | Special:Contribs/TheWombatGuru NL Admin 06:49, 8 January 2014 (UTC)
I got a messed up CAPTCHA earlier. The images were reversed, but the text was the same. When I selected all the dog images, it accepted my edit. user:Meeples10t ~ c 21:18, 8 January 2014 (UTC)

Nickname

Recently showed up in our wiki participant, once active before the transition. I was surprised that his nick name contains a hyphen. Was this possible? I had to give a hyphen to leave your nick a little like early. Now I want to return it back. Link: :ru:user:Rin miner-1259161. 16px Ivan-r is admin in ru-MWiki 18:14, 20 February 2014 (UTC)
