Organization of This Page & Instructions

Please do not spontaneously delete an issue report or comment, unless it is patent nonsense submitted by someone who has not logged in. If possible, contact the submitter by user-talk first and tell them about your concerns. They will almost certainly oblige. As always, assume good faith.

If you're unsure of an issue, it's good practice to post about it on the talk page to see whether others can reproduce it. Make sure you're testing the bug in the correct version (for this page, that's weekly 12w06a) with no mods installed. Also, make sure to proofread your issue report before submitting it; unintelligible issue reports come off as inconsiderate and disrespectful. Finally, please determine which game mode(s) your issue appears in, and flag it with the appropriate label(s).[1] (Also, note that if, for example, a minor annoyance appears in both single-player and multiplayer, and in both creative and survival modes, you should label it as [A] , not [A] [SP] [MP] [Su] [Cr] .)

Be sure to sort issues by category, type, and priority: redstone issues go in the Redstone section, etc.; bugs go in the Bugs subsection, with major bugs listed before minor bugs, annoyances in the Annoyances subsection, with major ones before minor ones, and issues that Jeb has marked as fixed or skipped are moved to the Fixed/Skipped section. Issues that Jeb cannot reproduce, however, are to remain in their original place.

[!] macOS The JavaApplicationStub is not up-to-date, so Minecraft won't run in 64-bit Java on a Mac.





[X] [SP] Standing in the middle of a block that a piston pushes, makes you fall through the pushed block.

[X] If you use a piston to break a redstone signal that powers another piston, the signal goes away but the piston does not retract.

[X] [SP] Standing on a downwards pointing piston, while it retracts, makes you fall through. Also possible to walk through retracting piston.

[X] This kind of 1-2 tick clock gets jammed after save/load sometimes.

[X] Redstone seems not working right on Glowstone. The signal doesn't goes through or over the Block. see: MrX13415

  • Jeb has changed it properties to glass, so signal doesn't go through. But some how you managed to place redstone over it, glass wouldn't allow it. There definitely something wrong.
  • Confirmed, you can now place Redstone on Glowstone and power it. Tried it with glass to make sure it wasn't a change in how Redstone reaction to glass blocks and was not able to reproduce it with glass. Tested on an unmodded jar on Creative SinglePlayer. Linkthegamer





[X] Vines are currently programmed like snow blocks and tall grass- placing a block in the same space as them will replace the vines. This is a bug- now that vines have a practical use, this can get very annoying.

[X] You can't place redstone dust in fire, it works with every other block.

[X] Can't harvest Vines properly with sheers if there's a "block" of vines, since vines in a "V" shape (Like, North and east) counts as a whole block. Trying to harvest 1 will break all vines near by and yield 1. Kit Ballard 15:26, 14 February 2012 (UTC)


If tall grass is touching a block, and if you try to place a torch on it, the torch appears on the wrong surface. If you want to place it on the ground, it appears on the wall, and vice versa. 01:47, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

This also applies to placing a torch on a block with snow on it and a block next to it. The torch goes on the block beside, not the targeted block with snow.

[A!] I you place a slab on the ground and stand on it and then try to place another slab on it, the slab gets placed, while if you try to place the slab on a normal sized block while standing on it, it doesn't place.




[X] Everything made of wood can be used as fuel in a furnace, except wooden tools. The fact that even jukeboxes and note blocks can be used as fuel leads me to think that the wooden tools are supposed to work this way but Jeb just forgot. Also ( (usable as fuel, burnable in world):

  • Wooden slap (no,no)
  • Note block (yes,no)
  • Jukebox (yes,no)
  • Crafting table (yes,no)

[A] While clay balls can be crafted into blocks of clay, blocks of clay cannot be crafted back into clay balls. This gets annoying when crafting them to save space in the inventory, and you have to place them and break them again when you get home.

  • Snowballs / blocks are similar.

[A] macOS The Mac version of the Paste shortcut, Command-V, cannot be executed within Minecraft. Ctrl-V works and uses the actual Mac clipboard. NOTE: This bug has been around since Beta 1.3.

[A!] The range of characters in font.txt is very limited considering the multilinguality of Minecraft. It should be updated so that more characters are available, because it is hard for foreign Minecraft players to communicate on servers if they cannot type using their own script. (Updating font.txt would also enable using the same font for all the languages.)

[A] There is no way to type the section sign (§) from within Minecraft, and it can only be entered by pasting it, which cannot be done while writing on signs.

[A] [Cr] The Mushroom blocks are not available in Item Selection. Even without the entire texture, the texture that they do have is still useful because it looks like light-colored human skin.

[A] [Cr] Portals to the End are not available in Item Selection. They are tedious to find in Creative Mode even with infinite Eyes of Ender, and on top of that, they are destructible, so someone could accidentally break them all (or a griefer could do it on purpose) and then there would be no way to get to the End, which is a good place to build outer-space themed things. The return portals are also destructible and should be in Item Selection as well. They would also be good for custom maps.

[A] Golden Apples are useless. They have been outclassed by the Potion of Regeneration ever since it was introduced, but now this is even more so ever since they were nerfed. It would make sense for Golden Apples to be the ingredient for the Potion of Regeneration instead of the Ghast Tear. The Ghast Tear should be used for some other potion instead.

  • For one, this is a suggestion more than an annoyance. Second, golden apples are indeed useful since apples are so much easier to find being that they now drop from oak trees. Third, potion regeneration is obviously better than golden apples because it's harder to obtain a ghast tear than a golden nugget. (Trenix 18:09, 11 February 2012 (UTC))
  • I definitely agree that they're underpowered. It takes too long to eat them for the amount of health you get back, making them useless in an emergency/combat situation, and in a non-emergency, you'd be better off just eating and waiting for the natural regeneration, saving the gold. I wouldn't suggest they be made as good as the potions, but they certainly need to be boosted a little. I recommend instant eating, 0:12 duration, and/or a decent side-effect such as resistance, night vision, or one of the other unused ones.







[X] When a bow breaks, it is replaced with another bow that has not been damaged. Said Bow cannot be "shift-clicked" into inventory or chest, but can be moved around manually. Tested in 12w06a.

[?] [MP] It is possible for non-ops to place items on the edge of the spawn.

[X] Double doors place incorrectly when placed in a certain order

  • This is because you aren't placing the doors in the doorway, you're placing them outside in the open, which is wrong. There's no blocks next to the doors, hence they are unable to determine how they should orient. No bug here. Retep998 19:15, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

[X] When a block, like a torch or flower any block, is placed in the areas around an open door, the door will close upon the destruction of the placed block. Dragonruler

[X] Vertical momentum is maintained when traveling between the End and the Overworld, so it is possible to take fall damage after teleporting.


[A] There is no way to grow your own undergrowth. Undergrowth is the mass of leaves on the floor of the jungle.

[A] Despite being used in many things, and also being depleted through several activities like using a splash potion, sand is not renewable. Eventually you are going to use up all the sand and not be able to make splash potions anymore.

  • Do you mean TNT? There's no sand in splash potions.
    • Sand is needed to make glass for potion bottles.

[A] In third person view (F5), we can't see what block we're pointing at, because of our avatar being between the camera and the block, so it would be good if the camera were a little to the right ( like this, if you want : )

[A] [MP] There should be a /ping command (for all, not only ops), instead of typing a random word in the chat to estimate how laggy is the server.

[A!] when right clicking with a vine in your hand on a vine block, the one in your hand will disappear.

  • this is because vines are a block, you cannot attack a mob while you are focused on a blocks hitbox
  • In this example, the vines are behind the mob, preventing me from actually hitting it. I shouldn't be hitting the vines cause of it. Kit Ballard 08:26, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

[A!] SMP Mob hitboxes are chest and above, making a lot of combat strategies (and XP farms) unusable.

[A] There is no storage block for redstone, coal or charcoal. It is annoying how there is a storage block for the rarest material (diamond) but not for the most common ones which often clog up a player's inventory.

  • I think the Diamond Block isn't intended as a storage block but rather a building block for bragging rights. -- 00:28, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
    • That's beside the point: it is useful for storage, as that guy brought up, and there are storage blocks for gold, iron, and lapis lazuli. I have several stacks of iron blocks I got from searching for diamonds. Why not redstone, coal and charcoal as well? Redstone DUST in particular, that sounds like something that could be easily made into a block. 13:02, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
  • If we have storage block for diamond, it doesn't make slightest sense to not have storage block for coal. In my opinion, there either should be no storage blocks or all storage blocks. If it was up to me, there would be storage block even for redstone, maybe this could function as vertical redstone wiring. Rate this is major annoyance, if there is consensus, I favor.




[X] Villagers will detect a door and make it their home. They will flee to it when it's night or when it rains, even though it's not connected to a house. (See also Doorless village annoyance below)

[X] [Cr] Feeding animals consumes the item used to do so, which is unintended and is very annoying because it means we have to shift-click everything we use to feed them. Examples include wheat used on most animals, bones used on wolves, fish used on cats, and meat used on tamed wolves.

  • This is also true when using dyes on sheep. Shadowx4ffc


[A!] Pigs are underpowered. While cows are useful for their milk and hide as well as their meat, and drop 1-3 pieces of Raw Beef, pigs aren't good for anything except for porkchops, and even then they only drop 0-2. At least with cows meat is guaranteed. (The only other thing you CAN do with pigs is ride them, but that isn't very useful.)

  • Maybe they could make pigs turn grass/dirt blocks under them into fertilized dirt, which makes crops grow faster than on dirt.

[A!] Chickens are relatively pointless to keep, because their eggs aren't used for anything other than cake. Their feathers are useless because while they can be crafted into arrows, it can only be done with flint and that is not renewable, and would be better used to craft flint and steel. To make matters worse, arrows can be renewably and automatically farmed from Skeletons. Their meat isn't even as good as pork or steak.

[A] You don't get the saddle back after a saddled pig dies.

[A!] Cats will warp to you when you're hit, the same as for a tamed wolf. I'd rather have my kitty watching over the chickens at home then appearing in some dank dark cave when I'm hit... Kit Ballard 13:07, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

[A] Because zombies can now destroy doors (on hard difficulty), and villagers can't repair them, you quickly end up with villages where hardly any of the buildings have doors. And if villagers do use the existence of doors to decide whether they can live somewhere, how can they recognise their (now doorless) former homes? Seems to results in lots of abandoned buildings, and I suppose abandoned villages eventually, and the villagers becoming short-lived vagabonds.

[A] [MP] Captured animals seemingly appears outside 1 block thick 2-3 block high room, mainly the roof. If there is no roof they appear top of 2-3 block high wall. (pics from 12w04a)

[A!] Tamed wolves warp to you when you're hit, even if you left them sitting somewhere.

[A] [Cr] The only Villager Spawn Egg available in Creative Mode is the ordinary brown-robed villager. I want to be able to spawn all sorts of villagers.

[A!] Oceolots (not tamed) in jungle biomes seem to teleport to you specialy in low roof houses if you only have a hole instead of a door they will not be able to go away and will cause memory crashes

[!] Meleeing a zombie with an enchanted bow sometimes breaks the bow.

[X] Sittings Cats will teleport to your location when you are attacked by mobs. The cats will appear near you in the sitting position. First found in 12w05a. This was tested with Single Player Creative mode. Not tested with other modes. --R093r 20:36, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

[X] Wolves will teleport to your location if hit no matter how far you are from your home base or where you sit them. Tested in multiplayer and in single player survival mode.

[!] [SP] If you let a cat sit in a offline game, save and play then online (not multiplayer) you can't let the cat stand and move. The cat don't respond. It also works vice versa, when you play online and then offline. Tested in flat world and creative.

  • This is a bug that has been around as long as wolves have, and is not restricted to any OS. The reason is that cats and dogs are bound to the player by their name, even in singleplayer, and Minecraft treats "Player" (the name of the player in offline mode) as a separate player from your identity in online mode. I agree that this is a problem. If possible, a special exception should be made for singleplayer so that single-player tames will obey anyone.
    • that could have problems in some servers that lets you change your name if you changed it to player everyone would be able to use the wolf and it wouldn't know where to go.Darkychao 04:22, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
  • A simpler solution would be to use whatever username was entered in offline mode, instead of 'Player'. This would avoid needing special-case code for wolves, cats, and any other player-specific features added in the future. -- Orthotope

[A] Zombies will attempt to break down the door on any difficulty, this can be very annoying as the door bang sound will annoy the player, and in some rare cases, cause lag. Firefox4

  • It's a new feature, they like attacking doors. Just like spiders like climbing up walls. The banging is less annoying than animals. If you hate it so much, why don't you kill them? A major annoyance is something that is irresolvable. (Trenix 03:34, 11 February 2012 (UTC))

[A] When zombies are breaking doors, the doors do not make particles.

  • Not true, I've tested all rare mob drops through creative mode. Maybe it's mobs dying from sunlight that will not drop rare items. (Trenix 15:42, 9 February 2012 (UTC))

  • Personally, I believe a mob should be killed by a player in order for them to drop rare loot. That is why burning zombies and skeletons don't drop rare loot. It seems intentional. Otherwise this feature will be exploitable. (Trenix 02:43, 11 February 2012 (UTC))

[A] [SP] If a spider is shot by a skeleton, they will attack each other when creepers/zombies ignore it.

  • I concur. It is a real shame to remove something so amusing and exciting. Why was it changed?

World generator


[A] Sometimes, when you die in Hardcore mode (map name eg. ONE), game don't delete all files and 'ONE' directory in 'saves' folder. Then, when you are creating new world (eg. TWO ) with the same seed, game uses new 'TWO' directory, plus file from 'ONE'. This file can't be deleted, because is used by javaw.exe, (it shouldn't - actual directory in use is 'TWO'). This resulting in slight differences between generated worlds (wth one seed), like dfferent trees and leaves positions... 20:02, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

[A!] While playing on a 12w06a server all the biomes were changed. We have been running since the update came out and just today 12/02/2012 everything changed, snow in jungles, swamps and rain in snow biomes. It has pretty much ruined our map since jungles are now all snowy and darker leaves now. [3]

[A] Since zombies now attack villagers, all village buildings require a torch inside them to make sure a zombie wont spawn.

[X] Jukebox's will play songs after broken, they also will not play if your sound is off and then you turn it on.


[X] The door banging sound that is played when a zombie hits a door is noticeably louder than other sounds in the game.
