Beaches are common coastal biomes that serve as transition biomes from the mainland to an ocean. There are three variants of beach biome.
Description[]
Beaches generate on the coast. Beaches do not always surround land biomes, allowing them to border the ocean. Beaches sometimes can also generate bordering rivers or be completely landlocked.
Beaches don't have many resources of their own. Buried treasure often generates buried under most beaches, and shipwrecks occasionally generate on beaches. Turtles may spawn on regular beaches, and along with rabbits in snowy beaches in Bedrock Edition, they are the only passive mobs that can spawn in beach biomes, although other passive mobs can wander into beaches from surrounding biomes. Drowned often spawn in the water surrounding beaches. Ocean ruins generated in the ocean nearby may spread onto beaches, causing some ruins to form on land.
Variants[]
There are a total of three different beach biomes in the biome family.
Beach[]
The standard beach-type biome variant, Beaches are composed of mostly sand, with some gravel, dirt, and clay patches under the water, similarly to rivers. Like the sand in deserts, sandstone generates underneath it. Beach terrain is usually a smooth descent into the water, though it can vary in steepness and width. Turtles can spawn here, as can buried treasure and shipwrecks.

Stony Shore[]
The stony shore variant replaces normal beaches in areas with mountainous terrain at low erosion values. They are made entirely of stone, with long strips of gravel. They are usually a steep drop into the water below. Stony shores may generate at high enough elevations to have snow on their peaks (above Y=120±8), even when bordering warm biomes.[1] Water and lava springs frequently generate on the sides of stony shores. In Bedrock Edition, buried treasure can sometimes generate at high altitudes, and can even generate at Y=90; In Java Edition, it doesn't generate here.[2]
The steep drops into the ocean below makes this variant dangerous, especially if the player is unaware of their surroundings.

Snowy Beach[]
The snowy beach variant often generates around snowy plains, snowy taiga, or any of their variants. Snowy beaches are the same to regular beaches terrain-wise, being made mostly of sand, though their landscape is covered entirely in snow layers. The water surrounding snowy beaches freezes into ice due to the cold temperatures and these beaches often lead to frozen oceans.
Turtles cannot spawn here, but in Bedrock Edition rabbits can. Shipwrecks and buried treasure may still generate in this variant.
Snowy beaches have the same mob spawning chances as stony shores in Java Edition.

The flowers/pink petals that appear depend on the biome, meaning that in order to obtain specific flowers, the player must travel to biomes where the flowers are found naturally. See {{slink|Flower|Flower biomes}} for more information. Using bone meal on a 2-block flower (rose bushes, sunflowers, lilacs or peonies) will cause one of the same type of flower to drop, without breaking the original. This is the only way to reproduce these flowers, since they cannot generate from using bone meal on grass blocks. Using bone meal on a non-transparent block that is underwater generates [[seagrass]] on that block and surrounding blocks. Sometimes, if in a [[warm ocean]] biome, [[coral]] and [[coral fan]]s may have a chance to generate as well, and in Bedrock Edition, coral (not coral fan) can be generated in any biome. In order for this to work, there must be 2 water blocks above the block the bone meal is being used on, and the lower one must be non-flowing water. Using bone meal on a [[sea pickle]] on a [[coral block]] creates sea pickles. This generates sea pickles up to 3 [[block]]s (of coral) away, so a 7+ × 7+ block (49+ blocks) of coral may be necessary, to return the most sea pickles per given bone meal attempt (more attempts grows them more numerously, exactly - including the range of it growing, like grass with heights on grass blocks - as coral and coral fans, though those others being non-solid blocks). Using bone meal on [[netherrack]] adjacent to [[nylium]] converts the netherrack into nylium of the same type. If both crimson and warped nylium are adjacent to the netherrack that was applied with bone meal, there is a 50% chance that either type of nylium is created. Using bone meal on [[nylium]] causes the corresponding [[roots]] and both types of [[fungi]] to appear on the nylium block and other nylium nearby, with the type of fungi matching the type of nylium being more common. In addition, using bone meal on the side of warped nylium creates [[nether sprouts]] and [[twisting vines]]. === Farmer villagers === [[Villager]]s with the farmer profession can collect bone meal from a full [[composter]], with which they can make their crops grow faster. == Sounds == {{edition|java}}: {{Sound table |sound=Bonemeal1.ogg |sound2=Bonemeal2.ogg |sound3=Bonemeal3.ogg |sound4=Bonemeal4.ogg |sound5=Bonemeal5.ogg |subtitle=Bone Meal crinkles |description=When bone meal is successfully used |source=block |id=item.bone_meal.use |translationkey=subtitles.item.bone_meal.use |volume=1.0 |pitch=1.0 |distance=16 |foot=1}} {{edition|be}}: {{Sound table |type=bedrock |sound=Bonemeal1.ogg |sound2=Bonemeal2.ogg |sound3=Bonemeal3.ogg |sound4=Bonemeal4.ogg |sound5=Bonemeal5.ogg |description=When bone meal is successfully used |source=block |id=item.bone_meal.use |volume=1.0 |pitch=0.9-1.1 |foot=1}} == Data values == === ID === {{edition|java}}: {{ID table |edition=java |showforms=y |generatetranslationkeys=y |displayname=Bone Meal |spritetype=item |nameid=bone_meal |form=item |foot=1}} {{edition|bedrock}}: {{ID table |edition=bedrock |showaliasids=y |shownumericids=y |showforms=y |notshowbeitemforms=y |generatetranslationkeys=y |displayname=Bone Meal |spritetype=item |nameid=bone_meal |aliasid=dye / 15 |id=411 |form=item |translationkey=item.dye.white.name |foot=1}} == History == {{History|java beta}} {{History||1.2|[[File:Bone Meal JE1 BE1.png|32px]] Added bone meal. |Bone meal can now only be applied to [[sapling]]s and [[wheat]].}} {{History||1.6.6|Bone meal can now be applied on [[grass block]]s.}} {{History||1.8|snap=Pre-release|Bone meal can now be used on [[mushroom]]s to make [[huge mushroom]]s, and the block the mushroom is on changes to [[dirt]].}} {{History|||snap=Pre-release 2 ;)|Bone meal can now be applied on [[pumpkin seeds|pumpkin]] and [[melon seed]]s.}} {{History|java}} {{History||1.3.1|snap=12w19a|Bone meal can now be applied on [[cocoa bean]]s.}} {{History|||snap=1.3|[[File:Bone Meal JE2 BE2.png|32px]] The texture of bone meal has been changed.}} {{History||1.4.2|snap=12w34a|Bone meal can now be used to dye [[leather armor]] and [[tamed wolf]]'s collar.}} {{History||1.4.6|snap=12w49a|Bone meal can now be [[crafted]] with [[gunpowder]] to create a [[firework star]].}} {{History||1.5|snap=13w04a|Bone meal has been significantly nerfed.<br> [[Wheat]], [[melon seeds|melon]] and [[pumpkin seed]]s, [[potato]]es and [[carrot]]s: one bone meal is now consumed for all seven stages of growth (melon and pumpkin seeds do not spawn right away).<br> [[Sapling]]s: one bone meal is now consumed for each of the two growth stages, then it grows into a tree.<br> [[Cocoa]]s: one bone meal is now consumed for each of the three stages of growth. |Green [[particle]]s are now displayed when bone meal is used. |Bone meal can now be used from [[dispenser]]s.}} {{History|||snap=13w05a|The balancing of bone meal has been adjusted. They always generate above [[magma cube]] spawners, also found in [[bastion]]s. Chains can also generate in [[mineshafts]]. They generate on the sides of a wooden bridge (a mid-air corridor) when the distance between the bridge and the highest solid block below it is higher than the distance to the lowest solid block above it. Chains here generate vertically in a pillar between the bridge and the ceiling. The lowest block of the pillar, connecting the chain to the bridge, is always an [[oak fence]]. === Chest loot === {{LootChestItem|chain}} === Crafting === {{Crafting |B1=Iron Nugget |B2=Iron Ingot |B3=Iron Nugget |Output=Chain |type=Building block }} == Usage == Chains can be used to suspend [[bell]]s, [[hanging sign]]s, or both types of [[lantern]]s (normal lanterns and soul lanterns), as the chain texture connects to the chain of the lantern seamlessly as if it were part of it, and it connects the hanging sign chains together. Chains do not require a supporting block to be placed whether it is on the top, next to it or at the bottom. It can exist completely free-standing in mid air<ref>{{bug|MC-178791}}</ref> and it can be rotated. Chains connect horizontally or vertically, but not across different orientations (so a chain with N orientation does not connect to a chain with E orientation in the adjacent block). Horizontal chains one block above a surface may be walked over. Horizontal chains two blocks above a surface prevent players from traveling past them. Vertical chains block travel if targeted directly, but may be skirted. Precision is required, but chains can be walked on, allowing for inconspicuous, although somewhat costly, bridges. Throwing a splash potion or a lingering potion does not return a glass bottle, but brewing a lingering potion gives back a glass bottle. === Mob loot === [[Witch]]es have a chance of dropping 0–6 glass bottles upon death. This is increased by 3 per level of [[Looting]], for a maximum of 0–15 glass bottles. === Mud === {{control|Using}} a [[water bottle]], [[splash water bottle]] or [[lingering water bottle]] on [[dirt]], [[coarse dirt]] or [[rooted dirt]] will transforming it into a [[mud]] block, at the same time leaving the player with an empty glass bottle. === Cauldrons === {{control|Using}} a water bottle (or, {{in|bedrock}}, a potion, splash potion, or lingering potion) on a [[cauldron]] that is not yet full adds that liquid to the cauldron, leaving the player with an empty glass bottle. == Usage == Glass bottles can be filled to make [[water bottle]]s, which can then be used to [[brew]] items with a [[brewing stand]]. Glass bottles are also used to hold the resulting [[potion]]. === Collecting liquids === ==== Water ==== A bottle may be filled with water by holding it in the hand and {{control|using}} it on a [[water]] source block or a [[cauldron]] that has water in it. It can also be filled using a waterlogged block.{{only|java}}<ref>{{bug|MCPE-83420}}</ref> Also, a bottle may be filled by powering a [[dispenser]] containing a bottle and pointed at a water source block. This does not work with cauldrons.<ref>{{bug|MC-165196|||Invalid}}</ref> If filled via a water source, the water is unaffected. If filled via a cauldron, {{frac|1|3}} of the water in the cauldron is removed. Therefore, using a cauldron to fill water bottles is inefficient, except in [[the Nether]] where it is normally the only way to fill bottles. ==== Potion ==== {{IN|bedrock}}, a bottle may be filled with potion by {{control|using}} it on a [[cauldron]] containing potion. When the bottle is filled, {{frac|1|3}} of the cauldron's potion is removed. ==== Honey ==== If a [[beehive|bee nest]] or [[beehive]] is full, the player can {{control|use}} a glass bottle on the block, or may power a [[dispenser]] that contains a bottle and is pointed at the block, which empties the block and creates a [[honey bottle]]. Honey bottles can also be emptied by using them in crafting recipes (such as [[sugar]] or [[honey block]]). However, a lingering potion use on tipped arrow recipe does not give the bottle back. ==== Dragon's breath ==== {{control|Using}} a glass bottle in clouds emitted when the [[ender dragon]] breathes or shoots a [[dragon fireball]] fills the bottle with [[dragon's breath]]. When put 2 or more dragon's breath in the brewing stand, after the brewing process, a glass bottle will drop as an [[Item (entity)|entity]]. However, if put only 1 dragon's breath in the brewing stand, after the brewing process, the glass bottle is consumed and cannot be retrieved.<ref>{{bug|MC-259583}}</ref> === Trading === Expert-level '''Potato crops''' are planted in [[farmland]] and used to grow potatoes and, rarely, [[Poisonous Potato|poisonous potatoes]]. == Obtaining == === Natural generation === [[Village]] farm plots have a chance of being planted with potatoes. The exact chance depends on the style of the village: {| class="wikitable" ! Village style !! Chance |- | {{EnvSprite|snowy-village}} Snowy || 70% |- | {{EnvSprite|plains-village}} Plains || 15% |- | {{EnvSprite|taiga-village}} Taiga || 10% |} Fully grown potato crops drop 2 to 5 potatoes ({{frac|3|5|7}} per crop harvested on average) and have a 2% chance of dropping an additional [[poisonous potato]]. Potato yield can be increased using a tool enchanted with [[Fortune]], with Fortune III harvesting an average of {{frac|5|3|7}} potatoes. [[Bone meal]] can be used to mature the potato to its last stage of growth. The first two potatoes always drop, and then three more attempts are made to drop a potato with a success rate of 57.14286% to yield the extra 0–3 drops. Each level of Fortune enchantment increases the number of attempts by one. === Mob loot === [[Zombie]]s, [[husk]]s, and [[zombie villager]]s have a 2.5% ({{frac|1|40}}) chance of dropping either an [[iron ingot]], [[carrot]], or potato when killed by a player or tamed wolf. This is increased by 1% ({{frac|1|100}}) per level of looting. This gives potatoes the following chances of dropping: * {{frac|1|120}} (about 0.83%) * {{frac|7|600}} (about 1.17%) with Looting I * {{frac|9|600}} (1.50%) with Looting II * {{frac|11|600}} (about 1.83%) with Looting III If a zombie, husk, or zombie villager is killed with fire, it drops a baked potato instead. === Chest loot === {{LootChestItem|potato}} == Usage == === Farming === {{main|Tutorials/Crop farming}} When farmed, potatoes require 8 [[Block tick|stages]] to grow. However, there are four ''visible'' stages due to having only four distinct textures: every two stages have the same texture, except that growth stage 7 keeps the same appearance as stages 5–6, so that only stage 8 has the final, mature appearance. Planted potatoes require a light level of 9 or greater to continue growing. If the light level is 7 or below, the crops instantly un-plant themselves ("pop off"). It is not possible to plant potatoes if the light level is too low. Crops grow faster if the farmland they are planted in is [[Farmland#Hydration|hydrated]]. Using [[bone meal]] on crops also increases the speed of growth by randomly increasing their growth stage by 2 to 5. Crops break if pushed by a [[piston]] or if their supporting farmland breaks or turns to dirt (i.e. by being trampled), dropping their usual drops. === Food === To eat a potato, press and hold {{control|use}} while it is selected in the [[hotbar]]. Eating a potato restores {{hunger|1}} hunger and 0.6 [[Hunger#Mechanics|saturation]]. === Breeding === [[Pig]]s follow and can be [[bred]] by a player holding a potato. [[Villager]]s can pick up potato items to become willing, which allow them to breed. Villagers require 12 potatoes to become willing. === Smelting ingredient === {{Smelting |showname=1 |Potato |Baked Potato |0.35 }} === Trading === Novice-level farmer villagers have a 25%{{only|bedrock}} or 40%{{only|java}} chance to buy 26 potatoes for an [[emerald]] as part of their trade. === Composting === Placing a potato into a [[composter]] has a 65% chance of raising the compost level by 1. In order to use a bow, the player must have at least one [[arrow]] in their [[inventory]] or be in [[Creative]] mode. Charging the bow to its maximum causes it to visually shake as an indicator. Releasing the button shoots an [[arrow]]. Drawing a bow can be canceled by switching to another hotbar slot while holding use. While the bow is being charged or remains fully charged, the player is forced to move at [[sneaking]] speed, unless they are riding a [[horse]], [[minecart]] or [[boat]], or flying with [[elytra]]. It is not possible to [[Sprinting|sprint]] while charging a bow or holding a drawn bow. When the bow is released, normal motion resumes although any prior sprint is cancelled. Sneaking while drawing the bow makes the player move even slower. If an arrow hits another player, the player that shoots the arrow hears a high-pitched "ding" sound.{{only|je}} Fully charged shots launch critical arrows which have a trail of [[particles]] behind them and deal up to <math display="inline">\left ( \frac{3x}{2} \right ) + 2</math>damage, where <math>x</math>is the damage after any enchantments. The listed values below describe maximum damage from a bow with no [[Power]] enchantments, assuming the target is at a distance where drag and gravity are negligible. However, the critical damage is likely to be more around 8-10; critical damage is added at a random value between <math>x</math>and <math display="inline">\left ( \frac{3x}{2} \right ) + 2</math> and it is rare to have minimum or maximum values. For example, it is possible for a critical arrow shot to cause damage values such as 6.4. In this cases of a broken value, the game can round up or down and store the amount for subsequent damage sources. Any projectile thrown by the player is under the influence of momentum in current versions of ''Minecraft''. Naturally, the player's movement speed can be modified under a number of circumstances, affecting the ballistic trajectory of projectiles, and as a result, the damage inflicted by arrows. In [[Java Edition Combat Tests]], to avoid sniping, arrows shot from fully-charged bows become non-critical if held drawn back for longer than three seconds. Instantaneous effects on tipped arrows are scaled by 1/8, just like the duration of other effects. For example, Instant Damage I arrow will deal an additional {{hp|0.75}} magical damage. Damage caused by the arrow is not affected by the [[Strength]] effect. [[Endermen]] cannot be shot using an arrow, because the arrow either disappears as the enderman teleports, or it gets deflected. Even while immobile, the enderman is immune to damage from arrows. However, an arrow shot from a bow enchanted with [[Flame]] can ignite the enderman. === Crafting ingredient === {{crafting usage|Bow, Damaged Bow}} === Enchantments === Bows can receive several different [[enchantment]]s and have a base enchantability of 1. A '''bamboo shoot''' is the initial non-solid sapling form of planted bamboo. == Obtaining == Bamboo shoots cannot be obtained through vanilla means. {{IN|bedrock}}, they can be obtained through [[add-on]]s or inventory editing. {{IN|java}}, they are completely unobtainable. === Breaking === Bamboo can be mined with any [[tool]], but a [[sword]] breaks the block [[instant mining|instantly]], even with [[Mining Fatigue]]. Flowing [[water]] also breaks bamboo shoots, but not mature bamboo stalks. {{breaking row|Bamboo|Sword|sword=1|horizontal=1}} {{notelist}} === Natural generation === Bamboo generates in widely scattered single shoots within [[jungle]] [[biome]]s. Bamboo generates much more densely in the [[bamboo jungle|bamboo variant]]s of jungles, covering large areas of the landscape. Bamboo does ''not'' generate in [[sparse jungle]]s.<ref>{{bug|MC-156638|||WAI}}</ref> === Mob loot === {{IN|java}}, a [[panda]] drops 1 bamboo when killed. [[Looting]] does not affect the drop rate.<ref>{{bug|MC-160006}}</ref> {{IN|bedrock}}, a panda drops 0-2 bamboo when killed. Looting increases the drop by 1 per level. === Fishing === Bamboo can be found while [[fishing]] in [[jungle]] [[biome]]s as a junk [[item]]. === Chest loot === {{LootChestItem|bamboo}} == Usage == When broken, any bamboo [[block]] placed or grown above it is also broken. A bamboo block drops itself as an [[item]] if a [[piston]] pushes it or moves a block into its space. When bamboo is first placed as a shoot it's not solid and can be destroyed by water flowing into it. After growing at least one block taller it becomes solid and can't be destroyed by water. To transform a bamboo shoot into a solid bamboo block place another bamboo on top of it. Unlike most plants, bamboo cannot be [[Composter#Composting|composted]].<ref>{{bug|MC-142452|||WAI}}</ref> === Farming === Bamboo can be planted on [[moss block]]s{{only|java|short=1}}, [[grass block]]s, [[dirt]], [[coarse dirt]], [[rooted dirt]], [[gravel]], [[mycelium]], [[podzol]], [[sand]], [[red sand]], [[suspicious sand]], [[suspicious gravel]], [[mud]], bamboo shoot, or on itself. At default random tick speed (3), each plant grows on average every {{convert|4096|ticks|seconds}}. When [[bone meal]] is {{control|used}} on it, it grows by 1–2 [[blocks]]. Bamboo can grow up to 12–16 blocks tall. The top of a bamboo plant requires a [[light]] level of 9 or above to grow. Because bamboo breaks in almost the same way as [[sugar cane]]s, [[Tutorials/Sugar cane farming|a sugar cane farm]] can be easily adapted to this use. While water is not needed with such a farm, some spacing is recommended if the harvest is done manually as mature stalks are solid. === Pandas === Bamboo [[item]]s are eaten by [[panda]]s and can be used to speed up the growth of baby pandas. Bamboo can also be used to breed pandas when at least 8 [[block]]s of bamboo are within 5 blocks of the pandas, making the panda the only animal in the game to have extra breeding requirements. At this point, the [[player]] can feed them bamboo and they [[breeding|mate]] to have a baby. === Fuel === Bamboo can be used as fuel for [[smelting]]. Each bamboo item smelts 0.25 [[item]]s. Crafting two bamboo into a [[stick]] and using that as fuel is equivalent, smelting 0.5 items. Bamboo can be crafted into other items to increase its fuel efficiency. * By crafting 9 bamboo into 2 [[bamboo planks]], 3 items can be smelted instead of 2.25, a 33.3% increase in efficiency. ** {{IN|bedrock}}, the fuel efficiency can be further doubled by crafting the bamboo planks into twice the amount of [[slab]]s.<ref>{{bug|MCPE-94368||Wooden slabs last for the same amount of time as planks in a furnace}}</ref> * {{IN|java}}, by crafting 14 bamboo into 3 [[ladder]]s, 4.5 items can be smelted instead of 3.5, a 28.6% increase in efficiency. === Flower pots === Bamboo can be placed in a [[flower pot]], where it retains the design it has in its item form. === Crafting ingredient === {{crafting usage}} == Appearance == [[File:Bamboo stages.png|thumb|The different stages of bamboo growth.]] The appearance of bamboo changes as it grows. When first placed, it takes the form of a small shoot, which has no [[hitbox]]. When it grows one [[block]] taller it grows to 2 pixels in length and width and the top block has leaves coming off it. At 3 blocks, the top 2 blocks have leaves and at 4 blocks the bamboo expands to 3×3 pixels. At 5 blocks tall, the top 3 blocks have leaves on them. As the bamboo grows, the leaves move up and stay at the top 3 blocks. Destroying a block of bamboo does not change the appearance of the blocks below it. By doing so it drops as an [[item]] and any other contents of the chest are dropped as well. ==Usage== [[File:Minecart with Chest GUI.png|thumb|176px|The GUI of a minecart with chest.]] Minecarts with chests can be placed by {{control|use item|text=using its item}} on any type of [[rail]]. Chest minecarts' contents can be accessed by pressing {{control|use item}} button on them. The interaction makes no sounds and the chest does not show the opening or closing animation, unlike regular chests. The boost that minecarts with chests gain from [[powered rail]]s is dependent on their load. For example, from a 1 powered rail starter track, an empty minecart with chest travels 64 blocks, but a full minecart with chest travels only 16 blocks (opposed to 80 blocks for an occupied normal minecart and 8 blocks for an empty normal minecart). Another physical property of chest minecarts is their ability to be stacked. While three chests can fit in an area three blocks tall, up to four chest minecarts can fit in the same area. Like other minecarts, an unlimited number of minecarts with chests can exist in the same block space. Minecarts with chests are also able to interact with [[hopper]]s. Hoppers can take items out from the minecart chest if they are below the track as the minecart rolls over it or put them in if the minecart rolls under a downward facing hopper. Hoppers can also input items if they are facing into the side of the minecart. Opening or destroying a minecart with chest angers [[piglin]]s. {{See also|Tutorials/Storage minecarts}} When on top of [[detector rail]]s, nearby [[redstone comparators]] will give out redstone signals based on how full the minecarts with chests are. == Sounds == {{Edition|Java}}:<br> Minecarts with chests use the Friendly Creatures sound category for entity-dependent sound events.<ref group=sound name=rollsource>{{bug|MC-42132}}</ref> {{Sound table |sound=Minecart rolling.ogg |subtitle=Minecart rolls |source=Friendly Creatures <ref group=sound name=rollsource/> |overridesource=1 |description=While a minecart with chest is moving |id=entity.minecart.riding |translationkey=subtitles.entity.minecart.riding |volume=0.0-0.35 <ref group=sound>Relates linearly with horizontal velocity (max 0.5)</ref> |pitch=0.0-1.0 <ref group=sound>Will increase by 0.0025 per tick if the minecart's horizontal velocity is more than 0.01</ref> |distance=16 |foot=1}} {{Edition|Bedrock}}: {{Sound table |type=bedrock |sound=Minecart rolling.ogg |source=neutral |description=While a minecart with chest is moving |id=minecart.base |foot=1}} ==Data values== ===ID=== {{edition|java}}: {{ID table |edition=java |firstcolumnname=Item |showforms=y |generatetranslationkeys=y |displayname=Minecart with Chest |spritetype=item |nameid=chest_minecart |form=item |foot=1}} {{ID table |edition=java |firstcolumnname=Entity |generatetranslationkeys=y |displayname=Minecart with Chest |spritetype=entity |nameid=chest_minecart |foot=1}} {{edition|bedrock}}: {{ID table |edition=bedrock |firstcolumnname=Item |shownumericids=y |showforms=y |notshowbeitemforms=y |generatetranslationkeys=y |displayname=Minecart with Chest |spritetype=item |nameid=chest_minecart |id=389 |form=item |foot=1}} {{ID table |edition=bedrock |firstcolumnname=Entity |shownumericids=y |generatetranslationkeys=y |displayname=Minecart with Chest |spritetype=entity |nameid=chest_minecart |id=98 |foot=1}} ===Entity data=== Minecarts with chests have entity data associated with them that contain various properties of the entity. {{el|java}}: {{main|Entity format}} {{/ED}} {{el|bedrock}}: : See [[Bedrock Edition level format/Entity format]]. ==Achievements== {{load achievements|Freight Station}} == Video== <div style="text-align:center">{{yt|2yVVMiQrCwo}}</div> ==History == [[File:Minecart with Chest BE3.png|thumb|The Minecart models in the Bedrock Edition were north or south on the sides. If a melon is already occupying a spot adjacent to a stem it does not grow more melons until the melons is removed. A single stem can grow an unlimited number of melons. Melon stems need a minimum light level of 10 in the block above the stem to grow and give melons. Melon seeds are affected by [[bone meal]] only with respect to stem growth; bone meal does not help produce the actual melons. === Breeding === Like other seeds, melon seeds can be used to [[breed]] [[chicken]]s, lead chickens around, and make baby chickens grow up faster by 10% of the remaining time. === Taming === Like other seeds, melon seeds can be used to tame [[parrot]]s. === Composting === Placing melon seeds into a [[composter]] has a 30% chance of raising the compost level by 1. == Melon Stem == A '''melon stem''' is the block that is planted on [[farmland]] when melon seeds are used on it. It starts underground, and rises up as the plant grows. The stem is colored green when young, and then yellow once fully grown. The stem curves once a melon has grown from it. A fully-grown single stem connects to any [[melon]] in an adjacent square, thus there are 5 possible appearances to a stem. If there are multiple melons it can connect to, it favors the east, then west, north, and south. When the melon is removed, the stem returns to its straight shape. == Sounds == {{Sound table/Block/Hard crop}} == Data values == === ID === {{edition|java}}: {{ID table |edition=java |showblocktags=y The chance of catching treasure increases with the [[Luck of the Sea]] enchantment. === Trading === Master-level librarian [[villagers]] offer to sell a name tag for 20 [[emerald]]s as one of their available trades. == Usage == To use a name tag, it must first be renamed with an [[anvil]], costing 1 [[experience]] level. If it is not renamed, it has no effect when used on a mob. After the name tag is renamed, the player can {{control|use}} it on a mob to give it the name given to the name tag from the anvil. Mobs and name tags can be renamed any number of times. Name tags with the same name are stackable. Once a mob is named, it keeps its name, and the name tag is consumed. When a mob is named, it is excluded from the mob cap count. Effects on various mobs: * A named [[silverfish]] that goes into a block appears to lose its name because it is replaced by a newly generated unnamed silverfish when the block is broken. * A baby (animal or villager) keeps its name when becoming an adult. ** A named [[villager]] keeps its name when transformed into a [[Zombie Villager|zombie villager]]. ** A named zombie villager keeps its name when cured. * [[Wandering Trader|Wandering trader]]s still despawn even if they are named, or in a [[minecart]] or [[boat]]. * A named [[wither]]'s boss bar displays its name instead of "Wither". * Naming an [[ender dragon]] with commands also displays the name in the boss bar. === Limitations === Any mob can be named except for the [[ender dragon]] and [[player]]s. A name tag can rename an [[armor stand]], though it does not show the nameplate above its head until <code>CustomNameVisible:1b</code> is set as an extra step. {{control|Using|use}} a name tag on a villager renames the villager instead of opening the trading interface. A saddled pig is renamed instead of being ridden. Using a name tag on any other mob that can be interacted with performs the {{control|use}} action instead of being named. These mobs can be renamed if the player uses the name tag while crouching or standing in a [[nether portal]] because the portal suppresses the {{control|use}} action. Once a name tag is used on a mob, it is impossible to remove the name of that mob without the use of commands or external modifications. === Behavior === Renamed mobs have their name displayed over their head in the same fashion as a mob named through a renamed [[spawn egg]]. Their names can be seen only if they are aimed at from four or fewer blocks away. Mobs that are named using the name tag never despawn in the world, similar to tamed mobs.<ref>{{tweet|dinnerbone|327485109940916226}}</ref> The exceptions are [[wandering trader]]s or if the mob is hostile and the difficulty is switched to "[[Peaceful]]", causing any hostile mobs or any named hostile mobs to despawn immediately. If a renamed mob kills a player, the custom name is used in the death message in place of the mob type name. For instance, if a vindicator named "Johnny" kills a player, the death message is "Player was slain by Johnny". A renamed [[wither]] also has a renamed health bar, and the boss bar doesn't regenerate{{verify}}. === Easter eggs === * Any mob that receives the name "[[Easter eggs#Upside-down mobs|Dinnerbone]]" or "[[Easter eggs#Upside-down mobs|Grumm]]" is rendered upside down. This even includes the player in early versions of Bedrock Edition if the username is set to either of these and you are not signed into Xbox Live. * Naming a [[sheep]] "[[Easter eggs#Jeb sheep|jeb_]]" causes its wool to fade between the dye colors, producing a rainbow effect. The [[wool]] that drops when the sheep is [[shear]]ed or killed is the original color of the sheep before the sheep was named. * Naming a [[rabbit]] "[[Rabbit#Toast|Toast]]" causes it to have a special memorial skin of user xyzen420's girlfriend's [http://www.reddit.com/r/minecraftsuggestions/comments/27hjog/to_themogminer_my_bunny_is_missing_please_help_me/ missing rabbit]. * Naming a [[vindicator]] "Johnny" causes it to be aggressive and attack all [[mob]]s including the wither (except [[ghast]]s and other [[illager]]s). The hostility even extends to [[Ravager|ravagers]] in [[Java Edition|''Java Edition'']], as the "Johnny" vindicator can also attack the ravager while it's riding it. == Data values == === ID === {{edition|java}}: {{ID table |edition=java |showforms=y |generatetranslationkeys=y |displayname=Name Tag |spritetype=item |nameid=name_tag |form=item |foot=1}} {{edition|bedrock}}: {{ID table |edition=bedrock |shownumericids=y |showforms=y |notshowbeitemforms=y |generatetranslationkeys=y |displayname=Name Tag |spritetype=item |nameid=name_tag |id=548 |form=item |foot=1}} == History == {{History|java}} {{History||1.6.1|snap=13w16b|[[File:Name Tag JE1 BE1.png|32px]] Added name tags.
