A canyon[1] is a deep, long crack generating in the Overworld that can connect with caves. They often appear deep underground but can breach the surface.
Structure[]
Canyons are usually between 85 to 127 blocks in length, and typically less than 15 blocks wide. In Java Edition canyons are usually 27 to 62 blocks in depth. Canyons in Bedrock Edition can sometimes go all the way down to bedrock, causing canyons spawning in mountain biomes to appear deeper.
A canyon extending down to bedrock causes lava to generate at the bottom. Obsidian often forms at the bottom as water sources flow down into the lava.
Canyons can have small ledges along the top. They can be found at levels 10 to 72, sometimes appearing on the world surface or underwater, forming canyons. They can go deep underground, sometimes spawning slimes or exposing diamond ore. If they reach deep enough, they may also be floored by the lava lakes at level -55. Canyons can cut from surface level all the way down to bedrock, especially noticeable in the Amplified world type.
Water-filled can also be found in any ocean biome.
Canyons can connect to caves, dungeons, abandoned mineshafts, and any other generated structures. Due to the large surface area of their walls, canyons often have water and/or lava flowing down them (from springs in the walls, aquifers, or openings to the sea). A canyon that intersects a river, frozen river, or swamp is filled with stone under the body of water.
Lava oceans[]
Similarly to how water oceans replace all air blocks below a certain altitude on the surface, when deep enough in a canyon, all blocks that would generate as air instead generate as lava.

1.18Extension DPL<ul><li>Kelp<br/>the plant For Kelp is an underwater plant that generates in most oceans. == Obtaining == === Natural generation === Kelp naturally generates in any ocean biomes (except in frozen, deep frozen and warm), near and around seagrass. Each chunk has 1 chance to generate a vegetation of kelp. === Breaking === Kelp can be mined instantly with any tool or with the player's fist. Removing water from the kelp block destroys the kelp. Breaking one part of a kelp stalk destroys all kelp blocks above it. Each block drops a kelp item. === Trading === Kelp can be bought from wandering traders for 3 emeralds. == Usage == Kelp can be placed underwater by hand, or anywhere by the use of commands such as setblock. Placing it by hand gives it a random age value between 0 and 24. Kelp can be placed only in water source blocks or downward-flowing water, not horizontally flowing water. When placed in downward-flowing water, the flowing water transforms into a water source block, which is useful for faster bubble column elevator creation. Any building block can be placed on top of a kelp plant, which is useful for building structures over a deep ocean without needing to build from the ocean floor (see also lily pad). === Cooking ingredient === === Composting === Placing kelp into a composter has a 30% chance of raising the compost level by 1. === Growth mechanics === Kelp can be planted on a broad variety of blocks. It grows underwater if it has either a source block of water or, Java, flowing water above it. Neither players nor dispensers can remove the water source block that kelp grows in without breaking the kelp first. Kelp does not require any light level to grow. Kelp also grows without having sky access. Bone meal can be used to grow kelp by 1 block on each use. Kelp, when planted, is generated with a randomly chosen age value, which can be checked when pressing <kbd>F3</kbd>java. The age value of a newly planted kelp plant varies randomly from 0 to 24. Each time the kelp grows in height by one block, the newly generated top of the kelp plant increases its age by 1. When the top block of the kelp plant reaches an age of 25, it stops growing. This means that kelp can naturally grow to a height between 2 (if the first kelp plant had an age of 24) and 26 blocks (if the first kelp plant had an age of 0). When a kelp plant block is broken, the age of the kelp plant block underneath is randomized to a value from 0 to 24 and the kelp continues growing until it reaches age 25. It is possible to use this mechanic to cultivate a kelp plant to increase its growth height beyond its natural maximum height of 26 blocks. This can be done by breaking the top-most block of the kelp plant each time it reaches age 25. A kelp plant cultivated by a player in this way repeatedly grows until it reaches the water surface. Each time it receives a random tick, kelp has a 14% chance of growing. If shears are used on the topmost block of kelp, that block automatically sets its age value to 25 and stop growing.JE === Farming === Tutorials/Kelp farming Kelp farming is similar to farming sugar cane, although kelp must be placed underwater. Carrot crops are planted in farmland and used to grow carrots. == Obtaining == === Breaking === Fortune#Seeds Fully grown carrot crops drop 2 to 5 carrots (3 per crop harvested on average). Yield can be increased using a tool enchanted with Fortune, with Fortune III harvesting an average of 5 carrots. The yield is calculated by a binomial distribution: 2 drops are fixed, then a drop is attempted three times with a success rate of 57.14286% to yield the extra 0–3 drops. Each level of Fortune enchantment increases the number of attempts by one. === Natural generation === Village farm plots have a chance of having carrots. The exact chance depends on the style of the village: {| class="wikitable" ! Village style !! Chance |- | plains-village Plains || 30% |- | snowy-village Snowy || 10% |} === Mob loot === Zombies, husks, and zombie villagers have a 2.5% (1) chance of dropping either an iron ingot, carrot, or potato when killed by a player or tamed wolf. This is increased by 1% (1) per level of looting. This gives carrots the following chances of dropping: * 1 (about 0.83%) * 7 (about 1.17%) with Looting I * 9 (about 1.50%) with Looting II * 11 (about 1.83%) with Looting III === Chest loot === carrot == Usage == To eat a carrot, press and hold use while the carrot is selected in the hotbar. Eating a carrot restores 3 hunger and 3.6 hunger saturation. === Farming === Carrots can be farmed and harvested on farmland. Planted carrots take 8 stages to grow, and go through 4 visually distinct stages. Planted carrots require a light level of 9 or greater to continue growing. If the light level is 7 or below, the crops instantly un-plant themselves ("pop off"). It is not possible to plant carrots if the light level is too low. Crops grow faster if the farmland they are planted in is hydrated. Using bone meal on crops also increases the speed of growth by randomly increasing their growth stage by 2 to 5. Crops break if pushed by a piston or if their supporting farmland breaks or turns to dirt (i.e. by being trampled), dropping their usual drops. If gamerule mobGriefing is <code>true</code>, rabbits will find mature carrot cropsje / carrot crops with growth stage greater than 1be. This reduces the growth stages by one, removing the crop completely when the growth stage reaches 0. === Breeding === Carrots can also be used to breed and attract pigs and rabbits. Villagers can pick up carrot items to become willing, which allow them to breed. Villagers require 12 carrots to become willing. === Trading === Novice-level Farmer villagers have a 25% (1)bedrock or 40% (2)java chance to buy 22 carrots for an emerald. === Crafting ingredient === crafting usage === Composting === Placing a carrot into a composter has a 65% chance of raising the compost level by 1. == Sounds == === Block === === Item === == Data values == === ID === java: bedrock: === Block states === Block states == Advancements == Husbandry;A Balanced Diet == History == java {{History|||snap=August 28, 2012|slink=Dinnerbone|Dinnerbone released an image of a saddled pig being controlled with a carrot on a stick. Flint and steel can be used to light unlit campfires, candles and cakes with candles. Flint and steel can be used to light nether portals, as any fire existing within an appropriate obsidian frame will instantly be replaced with nether portal blocks that occupy the entirety of the frame. Using flint and steel on TNT ignites it. The explosion damage dealt by TNT ignited with flint and steel in this specific way counts as the player's attack. If the player is a fire is instead placed on the side of the TNT the flint and steel was used on. A flint and steel can be used on a creeper to force it to explode. Explosions initiated in this way cannot be cancelled. However, it can still ignite TNT and creepers. * The name "Flint and Steel" may be misleading and is inaccurate considering the game doesn’t have and possibly will have steel in the game and it's crafted with iron instead. This is similar to the Old Growth Pine Taiga, as there are no pines in the game and they have Spruce Trees instead. **In real life, Iron can’t be used as a fire striker, so Mojang had to rename it to Flint and Steel so it makes more sense. This explains why it is called Flint and Steel, but there is no steel in the game. **Steel was mentioned by Mojang, as a “stronger” iron, but shortly rejected, and there are no currently no plans to add it to the game. * Flint and steel cannot light end portals. * Flint and Steel is the first item to mention another item that is not in the game. *In the April Fools Snapshot, Java Edition 23w13a or b, one of the possible voted was “Flint and Steel can ignite any block”. | |||

A bamboo shoot is the initial non-solid sapling form of planted bamboo. == Obtaining == Bamboo shoots cannot be obtained through vanilla means. bedrock, they can be obtained through add-ons or inventory editing. java, they are completely unobtainable. === Breaking === Bamboo can be mined with any tool, but a sword breaks the block instantly, even with Mining Fatigue. Flowing water also breaks bamboo shoots, but not mature bamboo stalks. notelist === Natural generation === Bamboo generates in widely scattered single shoots within jungle biomes. Bamboo generates much more densely in the bamboo variants of jungles, covering large areas of the landscape. Bamboo does not generate in sparse jungles. === Mob loot === java, a panda drops 1 bamboo when killed. Looting does not affect the drop rate. bedrock, a panda drops 0-2 bamboo when killed. Looting increases the drop by 1 per level. === Fishing === Bamboo can be found while fishing in jungle biomes as a junk item. === Chest loot === bamboo == Usage == When broken, any bamboo block placed or grown above it is also broken. A bamboo block drops itself as an item if a piston pushes it or moves a block into its space. When bamboo is first placed as a shoot it's not solid and can be destroyed by water flowing into it. After growing at least one block taller it becomes solid and can't be destroyed by water. To transform a bamboo shoot into a solid bamboo block place another bamboo on top of it. Unlike most plants, bamboo cannot be composted. === Farming === Bamboo can be planted on moss blocks, grass blocks, dirt, coarse dirt, rooted dirt, gravel, mycelium, podzol, sand, red sand, suspicious sand, suspicious gravel, mud, bamboo shoot, or on itself. At default random tick speed (3), each plant grows on average every 4096 ticks. When bone meal is used on it, it grows by 1–2 blocks. Bamboo can grow up to 12–16 blocks tall. The top of a bamboo plant requires a light level of 9 or above to grow. Because bamboo breaks in almost the same way as sugar canes, a sugar cane farm can be easily adapted to this use. While water is not needed with such a farm, some spacing is recommended if the harvest is done manually as mature stalks are solid. === Pandas === Bamboo items are eaten by pandas and can be used to speed up the growth of baby pandas. Bamboo can also be used to breed pandas when at least 8 blocks of bamboo are within 5 blocks of the pandas, making the panda the only animal in the game to have extra breeding requirements. At this point, the player can feed them bamboo and they mate to have a baby. === Fuel === Bamboo can be used as fuel for smelting. Each bamboo item smelts 0.25 items. Crafting two bamboo into a stick and using that as fuel is equivalent, smelting 0.5 items. Bamboo can be crafted into other items to increase its fuel efficiency. * By crafting 9 bamboo into 2 bamboo planks, 3 items can be smelted instead of 2.25, a 33.3% increase in efficiency. ** bedrock, the fuel efficiency can be further doubled by crafting the bamboo planks into twice the amount of slabs. * java, by crafting 14 bamboo into 3 ladders, 4.5 items can be smelted instead of 3.5, a 28.6% increase in efficiency. === Flower pots === Bamboo can be placed in a flower pot, where it retains the design it has in its item form. === Crafting ingredient === crafting usage == Appearance == The appearance of bamboo changes as it grows. When first placed, it takes the form of a small shoot, which has no hitbox. When it grows one block taller it grows to 2 pixels in length and width and the top block has leaves coming off it. At 3 blocks, the top 2 blocks have leaves and at 4 blocks the bamboo expands to 3×3 pixels. At 5 blocks tall, the top 3 blocks have leaves on them. As the bamboo grows, the leaves move up and stay at the top 3 blocks. Destroying a block of bamboo does not change the appearance of the blocks below it. Trivia[]
- In Bedrock Edition the seed 1669320484, as well as any seed calculated from 4294967296 × n + 1669320484, generates a huge canyon extending endlessly from southwest to northeast at coordinate X=−1269, Z=0, shaped by countless identical connected north-south canyons. There are other lines of canyons parallel to this one, but few of them are visible aboveground or have the canyons connected. This seed also generates parallel lines of endless dungeons underground. As of 1.18, nearly all endless canyons are underground.
- It is relatively-common to find up to around half a dozen canyons intersecting close even to where they're first found (including vertically, often perpendicularly). So if one finds one, one may find more, soon-enough.

Two canyons open to the sky that generated next to each other, with a river biome between them.
A jungle pyramid, stronghold, and mineshaft generated together in one canyon.
Naturally generated diamond ore, redstone ore, and lapis lazuli ore found in a canyon. Check the image for seed and coords.
