Usage[edit]

Fence gates must be placed on a block, but will remain in place if the block is then removed. When placed, fence gates will automatically face towards the player, regardless of any other fences around it.

Fences, Nether brick fences and cobblestone walls will connect to fence gates. If placed and not connected to anything else, a fence gate will appear to be floating.

Fence gates have a collision box that is one and a half blocks tall closed. When open, it has no collision box.

Fence gates can be opened through redstone input, or by pressing use, and always open away from the player. Losing redstone power will close the fence gate. A fence gate can be opened both inwards and outwards.

Hostile mobs recognize the fence gate as a block and will not attack players through it unless they have already seen them.

Data values[edit]

Fence gates use six different ID names to determine the type of wood the gate is made from. Fence gates also use block data to determine additional data.

Type ID Name Numerical ID
Oak fence_gate 107
Spruce spruce_fence_gate 183
Birch birch_fence_gate 184
Jungle jungle_fence_gate 185
Dark Oak dark_oak_fence_gate 186
Acacia acacia_fence_gate 187
