Contents

[edit] Obtaining

See also: Egg farming

Cooked chicken can be obtained by smelting raw chicken or by trading with farmers, and is a drop from chickens that die while on fire.

[edit] As a drop

When a chicken dies while on fire, it will drop one cooked chicken instead of raw chicken. It does not matter if the player was involved in the chicken's death, and the Looting enchantment will not increase the number of cooked chicken drops.

[edit] Cooking

Raw chicken can be cooked in a furnace. Each piece of cooked chicken removed from a furnace output slot gives 0.35 experience (22.4 experience per stack).

[edit] Trading

Villager farmers may offer to sell cooked chicken in exchange for emeralds. 7–8 cooked chickens can be bought per emerald.

As of snapshot 14w02a[upcoming], butchers will offer 6–8 cooked chickens for an emerald as one of their second tier trades.

[edit] Usage

See also: Hunger management

Eating cooked chicken restores 6 points of hunger (Hunger.svgHunger.svgHunger.svg) and 7.2 units of food saturation. Cooked chicken can also be used to heal or breed tamed wolves.

[edit] History

Beta
1.8pre1 Added in the Adventure Update. Formerly a chicken would only drop a feather, but now a raw chicken is dropped (usually along with a feather), and can be cooked into cooked chicken.
1.8 The cooked chicken texture was changed from Cooked chicken-Pre Beta 1.8.png to 1.3.2 cooked chicken.png, after Jeb admitted it didn't fit into Minecraft's sharp textures norm.
In the 1.8 pre-release, cooked chicken was called Roast Chicken. This was changed at release.
Official release
